Book Synopsis Rethinking Heritage for Sustainable Development by : Sophia Labadi
Download or read book Rethinking Heritage for Sustainable Development written by Sophia Labadi and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2022-06-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the UN in 2015 have influenced the actions of international and intergovernmental organisations and governments around the world, and have dictated priorities for international aid spending. Culture, including heritage, is often presented as fundamental to addressing the SDGs: since 2010, the United Nations has adopted no fewer than five major policy recommendations that assert its importance as a driver and enabler of development. Yet, heritage is marginalized from the Sustainable Development Goals. Rethinking Heritage for Sustainable Development constitutes a substantial and original assessment of whether and how heritage has contributed to three key dimensions of sustainable development (namely poverty reduction, gender equality and environmental sustainability) within the context of its marginalisation from the Sustainable Development Goals and from previous international development agendas. Sophia Labadi adopts a novel, inclusive, large-scale and systematic approach, providing the first comprehensive history of the international approaches on culture (including heritage) for development, from 1970 to the present day. This book is also the first to assess the negative and positive impacts of all the international projects implemented in sub-Saharan Africa by a consortium of UN organisations that aimed to provide evidence for the contribution of heritage for development in time for the negotiation of the SDGs. The book’s conclusions provide recommendations for rethinking heritage for development, while reflecting on the major shortcomings of the selected projects.
Book Synopsis Transatlantic Radicalism by : Frank Jacob
Download or read book Transatlantic Radicalism written by Frank Jacob and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Atlantic Ocean not only connected North and South America with Europe through trade but also provided the means for an exchange of knowledge and ideas, including political radicalism. Socialists and anarchists would use this “radical ocean” to escape state prosecution in their home countries and establish radical milieus abroad. However, this was often a rather unorganized development and therefore the connections that existed were quite diverse. The movement of individuals led to the establishment of organizational ties and the import and exchange of political publications between Europe and the Americas. The main aim of this book is to show how the transatlantic networks of political radicalism evolved with regard to socialist and anarchist milieus and in particular to look at the actors within the relevant processes--topics that have so far been neglected in the major histories of transnational political radicalism of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Individual case studies are examined within a wider context to show how networks were actually created, how they functioned and their impact on the broader history of the radical Atlantic
Book Synopsis El Existencialismo En Kierkegaard, Dilthey, Heidegger y Sartre by : Adalberto GarcÍa De Mendoza
Download or read book El Existencialismo En Kierkegaard, Dilthey, Heidegger y Sartre written by Adalberto GarcÍa De Mendoza and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Fifteenth-Century Studies by : Edelgard E. DuBruck
Download or read book Fifteenth-Century Studies written by Edelgard E. DuBruck and published by Camden House. This book was released on 2008 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Articles on drama, letter-writing, Arthurian romances, translation, mythology and folklore, print media, and Pizan, Sachs, Schedel, Chartier, and Henryson. The fifteenth century defies consensus on fundamental issues; most scholars agree, however, that this period outgrew the Middle Ages, that it was a time of transition and a passage to modern times. Founded in 1977 as the publication organ for the Fifteenth-Century Symposia, Fifteenth-Century Studies offers essays on diverse aspects of the fifteenth century, including liberal and fine arts, historiography, medicine, and religion. Following the standard opening article on the current state of fifteenth-century drama research, volume 33 offers essays investigating authors such as Christine de Pizan, Hans Sachs, Hartmann Schedel, Alain Chartier, and Robert Henryson. Genres and themes treated include drama, epistles of persuasion, late Arthurian romances, translations, mythology and folklore, print media, and art appreciation. Alternative interpretations are afforded by Franco Mormando's study of male nakedness and the Franciscans. Twelve book reviews round out the volume. Contributors: Edelgard E. DuBruck, Tracy Adams, Lidia Amor, Roció del Río Fernández, Leonardas Vytautas Gerulaitis, Jonathan Green, Christiane J. Hessler, Ashby Kinch, Franco Mormondo, Alessandra Petrina. Edelgard E. DuBruck is Professor Emerita of French and Humanities at Marygrove College, Detroit, Michigan, and Barbara I. Gusick is Professor Emerita of English atTroy University, Dothan, Alabama.
