Book excerpt: A natural history of the wilderness in our homes, from the microbes in our showers to the crickets in our basements Even when the floors are sparkling clean and the house seems silent, our domestic domain is wild beyond imagination. In Never Home Alone, biologist Rob Dunn introduces us to the nearly 200,000 species living with us in our own homes, from the Egyptian meal moths in our cupboards and camel crickets in our basements to the lactobacillus lounging on our kitchen counters. You are not alone. Yet, as we obsess over sterilizing our homes and separating our spaces from nature, we are unwittingly cultivating an entirely new playground for evolution. These changes are reshaping the organisms that live with us -- prompting some to become more dangerous, while undermining those species that benefit our bodies or help us keep more threatening organisms at bay. No one who reads this engrossing, revelatory book will look at their homes in the same way again.

Book excerpt: "This masterful work positions Lu among the vanguard of contemporary futurism and speculative fiction."—Publishers Weekly, starred review In the tradition of Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, debut author S. Qiouyi Lu has written a multifaceted story of borders, power, diaspora, and transformation with In the Watchful City. The city of Ora is watching. Anima is an extrasensory human tasked with surveilling and protecting Ora’s citizens via a complex living network called the Gleaming. Although ær world is restricted to what æ can see and experience through the Gleaming, Anima takes pride and comfort in keeping Ora safe from harm. When a mysterious outsider enters the city carrying a cabinet of curiosities from around with the world with a story attached to each item, Anima’s world expands beyond the borders of Ora to places—and possibilities—æ never before imagined to exist. But such knowledge leaves Anima with a question that throws into doubt ær entire purpose: What good is a city if it can’t protect its people? Book excerpt: ABOUT THIS BOOK Every man has the moral right to know his origins! The texts from the Bible and from the apocryphal books used in this book have a personalized translation and belong to me. The translation of the biblical texts in this book are slightly different in some places from the biblical translations that were made after the Council of Laodicea in the year 363. The translations from the apocryphal books are roughly the same, but the translation of the texts in this book is mine. All biblical texts or from apocryphal books are enclosed between these symbols: « » and have the specification with the origin of the text at the end of each text in part enclosed between two braces: [ ...example....Book of Enoch....]. I used this style to create a linear story of the true "history of the worlds" for everyone to understand. The present book ignored the prohibitions of the great council of Laodicea in the year 363 in which many sacred books of great antiquity were banned and called apocrypha. These forbidden books are part of the history of humanity and it would have been impossible to write Kaleidoscope Lumior presenting only a partial history from which some of the most important passages in the history of the world would have been missing. The Kaleidoscope of Worlds also includes a part of the ancient history of the world that today is known only as a world that is supposed to have existed before the flood of Noah's time. The book presents not only that "supposed history" but also a history of other worlds that were involved in the creation of the human species, which is why the book is called the kaleidoscope of worlds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: And Man Created God presents a new theory of mytho-empiricism based on the mythological concepts of Claude Lévi-Strauss and the structuralism of Jeanne Piaget. The whole nature of mythogenes as the creative force linking history and transcendence is then elucidated. The corpus of myths in the books of Genesis and Exodus are presented in a new light and then compared with the Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Greek mythologies to highlight the Judaic myths with the pagan contrast.
