He says we can recognize from our own time the political corruption, media-induced hysteria, and moral indifference operating then. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.

Book excerpt: A murder trial, a jury deliberating intensely on the death penalty, venal political corruption, and a staunch investigation set the stage for this story of two judges. One is a respected, seasoned veteran of the bench who has risen from Magistrate Court Judge to District Court and then to the Chief Justiceship of the state’s Supreme Court; the other a young Administrative Law Judge, riveted by his duty, immovable and undeterred by enticement or violence, and unwilling to be silenced or swerve him from his sworn oath to uphold the law. Set in the cities and courthouses, the mesas, mountains, and high desert plains of New Mexico, this book drives forward like a charging battle tank, and all these events lead to the prize of a vacant U.S. Senate seat and all the potency and might that goes with it.

Book excerpt: If the laws are ignored at this lower level of our system of justice I can only imagine what takes place the higher one travels in our system. With the higher courts wasting their time by not holding jurisdiction in any case they review once you have convinced the higher courts to hear your case makes for a total waste of money, time, and real justice. The higher levels of law enforcement all looked the other way in my case even though they fully agreed with me privately. They all tried to pass it on to another agency without enforcing the law and doing their job. Now, maybe the fat lady finally gets to sing and the truth and justice will finally come forward. This is a must read for people who believe education and administration are laid back and boring. You will be surprised at what actually takes place in institutions for your children in both public and private schools existing today in our society. You can now judge for yourself based on the true facts presented in this book.

Book excerpt: A startling look inside one of the most fascinating cases of last year––the murder of Terry King, the conviction of his 12 and 13–year old sons, and the pedophile who was accused of being an accessory. On November 26, 2001, Terry King was found dead in his recliner in his home in Pensacola, Florida. Though a fire had been set in an attempt to cover up the scene, the evidence was indisputable––he had been beaten to death with a baseball bat. Days later, King's two young sons, 12 and 13 and not even five feet tall each, were found hiding out in the mobile home of their close friend, Rick Chavis, a convicted pedophile who had recently become very close to 12–year old Alex. In parallel statements, Alex and Derek confessed to murdering their father, and soon, they became the two youngest people ever to stand on trial for murder in the state of Florida. But in a startling twist, the prosecution decided to do the unprecedented––try the boys for murder in one trial and Rick Chavis for murder in another, despite the boys' confessions. And in a case that gripped the state of Florida and hit headlines across the nation, convictions came down and were soon overturned. But in the end, the case became a series of missed opportunities, stunning reversals, and one of the most riveting true crime stories of the last decade.

We believe any and every parent would want justice in this extraordinary criminal case. We go through life knowing that tragedies occur in the blink of an eye. However, nothing prepares you for "The Call". "The Call" is when you are informed one of your most precious gifts, your child's life has been taken. Anyone who's lost a child knows about "The Call" that begins a nightmare that a person cannot wake up from everything and be OK. "The Call" it will forever change life as you know it. Your heart is broken beyond repair, and from that point on everything is different. You must then put your trust and faith in the Justice System to hold the person responsible and accountable for taking your child's precious life. We will never get Megan back, but Megan's legacy will be the exposing of the willful and wonton decisions made by those within the Justice System that resulted in a "30 Month Probation" sentence for taking Megan's precious life. Does that seem like acceptable justice for a perpetrator that accepted a Felony Plea Bargain indicating he caused Megan's death?

Simpson free, Daniel Petrocelli came to pick up the pieces. Outraged by the disastrous miscarriage of justice, the family of murder victim Ronald Goldman sought justice in civil court—their last chance to go after Simpson. To represent them, they hired Petrocelli, a respected attorney who had never before tried a criminal case. In order to win the case, Petrocelli would have to prove that O.J. Simpson was a killer. The physical evidence connecting Simpson to the murders was rock solid, but in the criminal trial, evidence was not enough. To bring the families justice, Petrocelli would have to do something that the District Attorney had not been able to do: confront O.J. Simpson face-to-face. Called “the best book on the subject” by the San Francisco Chronicle, Triumph of Justice is the definitive account of the Simpson murders and their aftermath. In the long, twisted history of the trial of the century, Daniel Petrocelli has the final word.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ruthless military dictatorship that ruled Argentina between 1976 and 1983 betrayed the country's people, presiding over massive disappearances of its citizenry and, in the process, destroying the state's trustworthiness as the guardian of safety and well-being. Desperate relatives risked their lives to find the disappeared, and one group of mothers defied the repressive regime with weekly protests at the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires. How do societies cope with human losses and sociocultural traumas in the aftermath of such instances of political violence and state terror? In Argentina Betrayed, Antonius C. G. M. Robben demonstrates that the dynamics of trust and betrayal that convulsed Argentina during the dictatorship did not end when democracy returned but rather persisted in confrontations over issues such as the truth about the disappearances, the commemoration of the past, and the guilt and accountability of perpetrators. Successive governments failed to resolve these debates because of erratic policies made under pressure from both military and human rights groups. Mutual mistrust between the state, retired officers, former insurgents, and bereaved relatives has been fueled by recurrent revelations and controversies that prevent Argentine society from conclusively coming to terms with its traumatic past. With thirty years of scholarly engagement with Argentina—and drawing on his extensive, fair-minded interviews with principals at all points along the political spectrum—Robben explores how these ongoing dynamics have influenced the complicated mourning over violent deaths and disappearances. His analysis deploys key concepts from the contemporary literature of human rights, transitional justice, peace and reconciliation, and memory studies, including notions of trauma, denial, accountability, and mourning. The resulting volume is an indispensable contribution to a better understanding of the terrible crimes committed by the Argentine dictatorship in the 1970s and their aftermath.

This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 681 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is the second of a multi-volume treatise. It covers Federal Judicial Powers, the Bill of Rights, Individual Rights: the 9th Amendment, State Powers, Powers Denied to States, and Separation of Powers. The volume is styled, The Kiss of Judice: The Constitution Betrayed—A Coroner's Inquest and Report. “Judice”, Latin, a pun, means “pertaining to judges”; thus denoting the judicial, Judas-like betrayal of the Constitution. “Coroner's Inquest” denotes that the work is a study into the death of the Constitution. Your author is the Coroner. He proceeds in the Inquest with the aid of his Coroner's Jury: Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton, Story, Locke, and Blackstone. The work in this volume is a dialogue between the Coroner and his jury on the various parts of the Constitution covered. The jury members answer the Coroner's questions, for the most part in their own words, drawn from a variety of their written works. Occasionally the Coroner puts words in their mouths; those “inventions” are shown in brackets in the jurors' answers. The work is novel, because, to the author's knowledge, it is the only “Constitutional Law” textbook that collects the wisdom of the framers as the Constitution's only authoritative sources; it does not, as most Constitutional Law texts do, emphasize court cases as constitutional authority, for more often than not, the courts have only warped the Constitution. In a broader sense, though, the work is not novel, for it's only an arrangement of the work already done by the jurors. The author is pleased to say that the work, by and large, is not original thought. Its beauty is that it only revives long-forgotten constitutional “discoveries” as set in the words of the main jurors and some others within “interviewed”.
