Book excerpt: mindbodygreen founder Jason Wachob redefines successful living and offers readers a new life currency to build on, one that is steeped in wellbeing…Wellth. “Many of us aren’t satisfied with just trying to accumulate the most money and toys. The good life is no longer just about the material—instead, it can be found in a lifestyle that is devoted to mental, physical, and emotional health. A wellthy existence is one in which happiness is attainable, health is paramount, and daily living is about abundance. It’s a life in which work is purposeful; friendships are deep and plentiful; and there’s a daily sense of richness or overflowing joy. But since there’s no one-size-fits all definition for a wellthy existence, I hope this book will serve as a guide to help you embark on your own personal journey that is both unique and meaningful.” Eat. Move. Work. Believe. Explore. Breathe. Connect. Love. Heal. Thank. Ground. Live. Laugh. These are the building blocks of Wellth…and in this blend of memoir and prescriptive advice Jason Wachob shows us all how to enjoy truly ‘wellthy’ lives—lives that are deeply rich in every conceivable way. Through his experience and personal story, as well as in exclusive material from popular expert contributors (including Dr. Frank Lipman, Dr. Lissa Rankin, Joe Cross, Charlie Knoles, Kathryn Budig, Dr. Aviva Romm, and Dr. Sue Johnson), we learn how we too can embrace this new movement and develop richer, fuller, happier, healthier, and more meaningful lives.

Book excerpt: Inspiring stories and success secrets from business leader and entrepreneur Amy Hilliard Pivot for Success tells business leader and entrepreneur Amy Hilliard’s stories of success, struggle, and sustainability to inspire you to become resilient. Hilliard offers her hard-won perspective on what it takes to "make it" in American business and in life. She talks about the tough stuff, the stuff that most people who rise to her level of accomplishment aren't eager for others to know. Few women, and few women of color, have created multi-million-dollar brands in senior corporate positions, legendary entrepreneurial environments, and start-ups. Hilliard’s fearless honesty in revealing her experience can help you find your way forward, even if you face obstacles in today's business environment. While Hilliard is a Harvard Business School graduate, Pivot for Success contains lessons not taught in school. Her perspective on success and the failure it often takes to succeed are invaluable. In this book, you will learn the 10 Pivot Points that have led Hilliard to where she is today, including Purpose, Passion, Perseverance, Positivity, Priorities, and more. The 10 Pivot Points you'll learn in Pivot for Success have been tried and tested, and even endorsed by Michelle Obama. In this book, Hilliard shares her impactful life lessons. No matter who you are or where you are in your life’s journey, you’ll need to gain vision, shift your energy, and make moves in order to get where you’re going. Through Pivot for Success, you’ll find that you can succeed, even when you think you've lost it all. Gain inspiration from Amy Hilliard's rise and resilience to multi-million-dollar success Leverage the 10 Pivot Points to best fit your goals in business and in life Learn to recognize when you’re on the right track or bounce back if your situation calls for a change of outlook and strategy Build the courage to take risks, shift your perspective, and discover new opportunities As the owner of three businesses, Amy Hilliard knows what it takes to hustle and get there. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A book that explores the disconnect between the ideals of the Great Awokening and the realities of fixing structural inequality. This book aims to explain how a new elite has risen to prominence and established a social order that is fundamentally premised on exclusion, exploitation and condescension even as its members define themselves in terms of their commitments to uplifting the marginalized and disadvantaged. The book will illustrate how this core tension within the new elite explains a number of trends we've seen, from the Great Awokening to growing political polarization and beyond. We Have Never Been Woke will draw from and build upon al-Gharbi's work over the last six years that has examined the rise of Trump, the crisis of expertise, tensions over 'identity politics' and growing social inequality. It will demonstrate each of these domains as a 'front' of a broader social and cultural conflict - a conflict between those who have come to dominate the 'knowledge economy' and institutions of cultural production and those who feel excluded therefrom. It will highlight the ways symbolic analysts - those elites who have not attained their social position by owning material assets but by trafficing in symbols and rhetoric, images and narratives, data and analysis - deploy wokeness as a weapon in this conflict, often at the expense of those who are actually marginalized and disadvantaged in the prevailing order. As We Have Never Been Woke will demonstrate, the Americans who are the primary producers and consumers of content on antiracism, socialism, feminism, etc. also happen to be the primary beneficiaries of gendered, racialized and other forms of inequality - and not passive beneficiaries. We are active participants in exploiting and reproducing inequalities. However, it is difficult for us to 'see' how we contribute to the problem -- precisely because of our deeply felt commitments to social justice. This book aims to deflate these self-serving narratives while dismantling popular (and self-serving) narratives about the 'losers' in the system - leaving readers with a totally different understanding of how social inequality is produced (and by whom), and unnerving questions about what it would take to meaningfully address it"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yes, you can overcome the spirit of COVID-19 and every other variant with the precious Word of God. In this time, we started here where he said our food and water are blessed, and yet to remind us not to forget the benefits of him forgiving all our iniquities and healing all our diseases, we are indeed healed by his stripes. The redemption from the curse is ours for his covenant people. You may have caught COVID-19 or seen much suffering and even death, but there have been many more recoveries; much more hope shined in a time when Psalms 91 and 2nd Chronicles 7:14 became most famous. During this time of the pandemic, remedies were scarce. From one day to another, the experiences of sorrow, pain, and discomfort were plenty. The promise of God's Word reigned supreme over this tumultuous time. In Six Feet Away, many memories were captured, and solutions were given. Put your trust in God and watch all that is not of him fall to the ground. There could be more trials like this COVID-19 or worst, but God is still good, and the Word still works. Take this journey with Six Feet Away as a historical point of view, or find day-to-day strength in your own battles. By understanding how much God loved me and how he showed me his compassionate care, I knew I would come out better. We can live and not die, reign in every situation, be healthy, wealthy, and happy in Christ, and would you believe the key is our saviour Jesus Christ?

Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author and Printz Award winner Walter Dean Myers once again connects with teenagers everywhere in Darius & Twig, a novel about friendship and needing to live one's own dream. This touching and raw teen novel from the author of Monster, Kick, We Are America, Bad Boy, and many other celebrated literary works for children and teens is a Coretta Scott King Honor Book. Darius and Twig are an unlikely pair: Darius is a writer whose only escape is his alter ego, a peregrine falcon named Fury, and Twig is a middle-distance runner striving for athletic success. But they are drawn together in the struggle to overcome the obstacles that life in Harlem throws at them. The two friends must face down bullies, an abusive uncle, and the idea that they'll be stuck in the same place forever. Maria Russo, writing in the New York Times, included Darius & Twig on her list of "great kids' books with diverse characters." She commented: "The late Myers, one of the greats and a champion of diversity in children’s books well before the cause got mainstream attention, is at his elegant, heartfelt best in this 2013 novel. It’s about two friends growing up in Harlem, one a writer, one an athlete, facing daily challenges and trying to dream of a brighter future."
