I don't know how long her house had been in The Quarters but she gave birth to my grandmother (Mattie Canton) in that home in 1902. There was another oddity. All the guests joined hands around a swimming pool and had prayer. A swimming pool? In Geneva? Yeah, right.This weekend we are in Geneva, Texas. My Grandma Lula's house is gone. (In the summer of 2013 it exploded in the middle of the night.) Cousins Jordan "Peanut' and Reena Jones Washington returned to their roots and built a home on the original land purchased by their ancestors' ... and recently added a swimming pool! Here we stand with our feet touching the very soil on which our ancestors stood, celebrating their emancipation. Our promise to them is that we will continue to pass Our Legacy and Our History to Our Children and Our Grandchildren - just as Our Parents and Our Grandparents passed it to us. Continue to tell the story, leave a written record, let the world know.Enjoy the festivities this weekend.
