Dabei zeigt sich, dass diese Jugendlichen an gendertypischen 'Normalbiografien' festhalten. Ihr Leitmotiv ist die gesellschaftliche Integration mit Sicherheit und (finanzieller) Autonomie.

Das anschließende Kapitel bezieht sich auf die endogenen und exogenen Einflussfaktoren, die maßgeblich zur Entwicklung beruflicher Aspirationen beitragen. Im Fokus des zentralen vierten Kapitels stehen die Herausforderungen, mit denen insbesondere Hauptschüler/-innen in der Übergangssituation Schule – Beruf konfrontiert werden. Vorwiegend geht es dabei um die Auseinandersetzung mit den zahlreichen Anforderungen, die sich in dem Spannungsfeld zwischen idealistischen und realistischen Aspirationen ergeben. Zudem ist herauszuarbeiten, auf welche Unterstützungsressourcen sich die Jugendlichen stützen können und was diese im Einzelnen leisten. Im Anschluss daran werden unter Verwendung statistischer Erhebungen innerhalb des fünften Kapitels die Arbeitsmarktrealität niedrig qualifizierter Schüler/-innen aufgezeigt. Die auf Grundlage der Auseinandersetzung mit der hier gewählten Thematik gewonnenen Erkenntnisse werden im sechsten Kapitel diskutiert und zusammenfassend reflektiert.
