Book excerpt: Basándonos en los inventarios realizados a la muerte de los Reyes Isabel la Católica, Juana la Loca, Carlos V y Felipe II, con todas las pertenencias que poseyeron, hemos realizado una rigurosa selección de todas las joyas, objetos o cosas realizados en metales nobles, los que estuviesen hechos de cualquier otro material pero adornados con oro, plata, perlas, marfil o piedras preciosas, incluso ropas y vestimentas si llevaban sobrepuestos estos materiales(descartando los tejidos y bordados); seleccionando también las perlas y piedras preciosas que aparecen sueltas. Todas las joyas y objetos seleccionados han sido estudiados atendiendo a su aspecto estético y sobre todo centrándonos en su utilidad y en su carácter coleccionístico. La clasificación definitiva ha quedado encuadrada en cinco grandes grupos: I.- Joyas de Adorno y Representación. II.- Enseres Enjoyados. III.- Objetos Religiosos y Mobiliario Litúrgico. IV.- Objetos de Ocio y Coleccionismo. V.- Varios. Como conclusión diremos que la importancia del estudio de estas joyas y objetos consiste no solo en mostrarnos los tesoros y colecciones de los Soberanos, sino que tienen la virtud, con su enorme fuerza reveladora de ilustrarnos sobre las modas que imperaban, los viajes, la religiosidad, las ocasiones solemnes, el ocio, etc., incluso nos introducen en el vivir más cotidiano e íntimo del palacio regio, manifestándonos incluso el modo de pensar y sentir de nuestros Monarcas. Son el exponente más claro del estilo de vida de los monarcas. Incluye también la Tesis, además de la Relación Bibliografica, un Glosario que nos ayuda a conocer términos ya caídos en desuso; también la relación completa de todos los objetos y joyas con los Reyes que las poseyeron, transcrita literalmente, así como 185 ilustraciones que nos ayudan a conocer mejor los objetos estudiados.

The study of social space in any human group is fraught with limitations, and to these we must add the further limits involved in the study of childhood. Here specialists from archaeology, history, literature, architecture, didactics, museology and anthropology build a body of theoretical and methodological approaches about how space is articulated and organized around children and how this disposition affects the creation and maintenance of social identities. Children are considered as the main actors in historic dynamics of social change, from prehistory to the present day. Notions on space, childhood and the construction of both the individual and the group identity of children are considered as a prelude to papers that focus on analyzing and identifying the spaces which contribute to the construction of children’s identity during their lives: the places they live, learn, socialize and play. A final section deals with these same aspects, but focuses on funerary contexts, in which children may lose their capacity to influence events, as it is adults who establish burial strategies and practices. In each case authors ask questions such as: how do adults construct spaces for children? How do children manage their own spaces?
