Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microeconomic Reform in Britain: Delivering Opportunities for All provides a comprehensive guide to the extensive microeconomic reforms implemented over the last 6 years to realise the UK Government's goals: a stronger more enterprising economy and a fairer society. This companion volume to Reforming Britain's Economic and Financial Policy: Towards Greater Economic Stability , published in 2002, offers a detailed account of a programme of reforms which together constitute a comprehensive strategy to lock in the stability needed to support steady growth by pursuing both enterprise and fairness for all. Building on the foundations of monetary and fiscal reform, the reforms in microeconomic policy described in this volume provide the framework for improving Britain's overall productivity, expanding national wealth and protecting the environment. The government's approach to raising productivity across all sectors and income groups, supporting families, and tackling poverty is presented, together with a detailed account of the reform of the delivery of public services. This volume is a key resource for students of economics and politics, bringing together the work which will have a profound influence on the future of British economic policy making.

Book Synopsis Legislative scrutiny by : Great Britain: Parliament: Joint Committee on Human Rights
Download or read book Legislative scrutiny written by Great Britain: Parliament: Joint Committee on Human Rights and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011-12-12 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are a number of concerns about the Welfare Reform Bill's compatibility with the requirements of human rights law and the fact that the Government has not provided Parliament with a full human rights memorandum with a detailed analysis. The Government also needs to better monitor the post-legislative impact of the measures in the Bill. The Committee is concerned that some of the proposals in the Bill may be implemented in a way which could both lead to a discriminatory impact and also not demonstrate a reasonable relationship of proportionality between the means employed and the legitimate aim that is sought to be realised. It considers that changes to welfare support designed to meet the right to social security and the right to an adequate standard of living should be supported by evidence and closely monitored after implementation. With regard to the housing benefit cap there is concern about the possible disparate impact on some disabled people and allowing additional discretion to exempt is recommended. The Committee is also not satisfied that there is reasonable justification for the negative impact of the introduction of Personal Independence Payments on the right of disabled people to independent living. The Bill should be amended to ensure that the assessment process for PIPs takes account of the various barriers experienced by disabled claimants and there should be a trial period for the new assessment process. The Secretary of State also needs to be required to make a statement to Parliament responding to the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission's annual report and there needs to be opportunity to debate that report and the Minister's statement in response

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourth Review Under the Extended Arrangement, Financing Assurances Review, and Request for Waiver of Performance Criteria for Serbia and Montenegro are discussed. The agreed tighter fiscal, monetary, and incomes policies should cool off wage and credit growth, which are driving the demand for imports. The bold resumption of structural reforms should over time help increase exports, which remain exceptionally low in reference to GDP. The fragile political situation could affect the ability of the reformist minority government to press ahead with bold reforms.
