Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Galatians 1: 7, 8 7which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! (New American Standard Bible) How many times have you read the account of the Five Thousand being fed in Matthew and wanted to know how Mark described it? Perhaps you have read what Luke said about the Triumphal Entry, and wanted to compare it with what John wrote. JESUS THE MESSIAH According to the Gospels emerged from this need. Nathanael Ben Yehoshua Alrabí, like you, sought the answers to such questions in the life and events of the historical Jesus, therefore, this book includes all the events taken directly from the four evangelists. This narrative is not a replacement of the Bible nor is it a different gospel. JESUS THE MESSIAH. is the result of six years of consultation, of researching the scripture and of organizing the story. This is the story of Jesus' life and events in a chronological order easily followed in a single reading. Natanael Ben Yehoshua Alrabí was born in Mexico where he dedicated his life to the principal character of his book. By 1971 and while living in the United States, he received a Bachelor's in Theology. In 1990 he obtained a BA in Education and in 1993 achieved a MA in Spanish Literature. The author and his wife of 35 years are both high school teachers. Nathanael has also taught in several universities. During the past three decades he has served his Lord both as an interim pastor and a Sunday school teacher.

Yet despite giving seven remarkable signs, his people refused to believe him. In Signs of the Messiah, Andreas Köstenberger--veteran New Testament scholar and expert on the Gospel of John--guides readers through John and highlights its plot and message. John's Gospel is written to inspire faith in Jesus. By keeping the Gospel's big picture in view, readers will see Jesus' mighty signs and be compelled to trust more fully in the Messiah. Readers will have a deeper grasp of John's message and intent through this short and accessible introduction.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fictional account of the life of Christ “illuminated by ferocious wit, gentle passion, and poetry”—from the Nobel Prize-winning author of Skylight (Los Angeles Times Book Review). For José Saramago, the life of Jesus Christ and the story of his Passion were things of this earth: a child crying, a gust of wind, the caress of a woman half asleep, the bleat of a goat or the bark of a dog, a prayer uttered in the grayish morning light. The Holy Family reflects the real complexities of any family, but this is realism filled with vision, dream, and omen. Saramago’s deft psychological portrait of a savior who is at once the Son of God and a young man of this earth is an expert interweaving of poetry and irony, spirituality and irreverence. The result is nothing less than a brilliant skeptic’s wry inquest into the meaning of God and of human existence. “Enough to assure [Saramago] a place in the universal library and in human memory.”—The Nation “Fiction that engages the mind as well as the spirit.”—Kirkus Reviews “Mixes magic, myth, and reality into a potent brew.”—Booklist Praise for José Saramago “The greatest writer of our time.”—Chicago Tribune “A literary master.”—The Boston Globe “Saramago is the most tender of writers . . . With a clear-eyed and compassionate acknowledgment of things as they are, and a quality that can only be termed wisdom. We should be grateful when it is handed to us in such generous measure.”—The New York Times “Saramago’s fiction operates in a realm not far from fable: the territory of Kafka, Gogol, and Borges.”—Los Angeles Times

Book excerpt: Entering the fray of a hotly debated issue, Michael Bird argues that the title and role of "Messiah" ascribed to Jesus is not a late addition to the four Gospels but their structural and semantic foundation. Stressing that Christianity is itself a messianic movement, Bird argues that the messianic testimony is the "mother of all Christology."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ministry of Jesus Christ, the Messiah is an abridged compilation of the four gospelsone continuous writing containing the words of Christ so the reader can read and study the entire ministry of Jesus Christ in one continuous fluid document. Also included in appendices are biblical presentations of Creation and the Flood and other important Christian statements of belief, such as the Apostolic and Nicene Creeds. The following four Bible study topics are included: 1. The Lords Prayer 2. Messiah by George Frideric Handel 3. Precepts of the Christian faith 4. Joy, peace, and contentment Modern day English translations of the four Gospels were used or referenced by the author. When the Apostles spoke of the same event, their words were blended into one account. The author worked to ensure thought or meaning from Scripture containing a description of an event was not lost. If not absolutely clear that the same event was being written about, or if the event could not logically be taken out of context of the particular book, then no blending of text was done. Footnotes help explain key thoughts presented in Scripture because translation from the original Greek does not often lend itself to the modern English language nor common grammatical form, hence the many different translations available today. Regardless of whether a translation uses a very literal translation of Greek or a simpler paraphrase, the original meaning or thought the Lord intended can be unclear without reference to other Scripture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who do the Gospels say Jesus is? The title and role of "Messiah" ascribed to Jesus in the Gospels has long been regarded as a late add on, a fabricated claim or an insignificant feature. Michael Bird, however, argues that the Gospels' messianic claims are the most significant feature of their portrayal of Jesus. Bird describes how each Evangelist portrays Jesus as the Messiah of Israel, what they think is at stake in that claim, and how the claim that "Jesus is the Messiah" drives the purpose and shape of the Gospels. Emphasizing that Christianity was a messianic movement rooted in its Jewish context, Bird points toward the profound theological implication of Jesus' identity: that Jesus' messiahship is the "mother of all Christology."
