Book excerpt: With some exceptions, there is not a real interest in Islamic philosophy and t- ology in Western institutions today. This largely ignored area has the potential to present enlightening insights into the development of the Western thought and to contribute to contemporary discussions in philosophy and theology in general. Scholars working in Islamic thought usually focus on its medieval background and consider it to be mainly of a historical interest and far away from the intellectual world of today. Showing its contemporary relevance is an important task by which the status of Islamic philosophy can be elevated to its proper station. By considering these points in mind, the University of Kentucky organized an international graduate student conference on Islamic philosophy and the- ogy with an emphasis on its contemporary relevance which was held between the 28th and 30th September 2007. This book emerged out of the conf- ence by adding more chapters relevant to the main theme of the book. This book presents analyses and discussions of different topics in Islamic philo- phy and theology by relating them to contemporary debates and ideas in four main areas: epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of religion and value t- ory. There are ten chapters in sum. Some of the chapters are written by graduate students and some of them by experienced scholars. Each chapter presents c- siderable insight into its relevant topic but does not represent the opinion of anybody except the author.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Revival Sermons Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan, and were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their. Sins. The probable secret of John's wonderful power over men, was the fact that he was filled with the Holy Ghost. He had been filled with the Spirit from a child up. His whole heart was in his work, his Spirit was aroused and he poured forth the truth in great power upon the multitudes who ocked to hear him. Listen to him for a moment. The kingdom of Heaven is at hand. It is now at your doors. The King in Zion is born and in your midst. He is about to enter upon his public work: Now, ye sleepy Jews, wake up and repent. I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, sent before his face to call upon you to prepare his way. Wake up, wake up and make his paths straight. Set your houses in order, put every abomination from your hearts, and be in readiness for the ushering in of this new kingdom, which is ultimately to demolish all other kingdoms and to fill the whole world. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you create a thriving organizational culture in your church? Churches are committed to a spiritual mission, but it is often the organizational aspects of the church that hinder the mission from moving forward. Cultivating health in the organizational side of church culture requires a thorough understanding of the church's vision, systems, staffing, relationships, and leadership. When the culture is healthy, it delivers consistently healthy outcomes that advance the mission of the church. But when cultures are unhealthy, or worse, toxic, they perpetuate constant dysfunction and derail the church's purpose. In Creating Your Church's Culture, Stephen Blandino gives you the tools and strategies to address the organizational side of your church's culture. You'll learn how to define your culture, activate the Culture Equation, hire staff who fit your culture, and infuse your values into your culture. You'll learn how to create a learning culture, develop effective systems, increase employee and volunteer engagement, measure healthy, and uproot bureaucracy. This practical book is loaded with wisdom and inspiration to improve the organizational aspects of your church's culture.
