Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The “paradigm-influencing” book (Christianity Today) that is fundamentally transforming our understanding of white evangelicalism in America. Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping, revisionist history of the last seventy-five years of white evangelicalism, revealing how evangelicals have worked to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism—or in the words of one modern chaplain, with “a spiritual badass.” As acclaimed scholar Kristin Du Mez explains, the key to understanding this transformation is to recognize the centrality of popular culture in contemporary American evangelicalism. Many of today’s evangelicals might not be theologically astute, but they know their VeggieTales, they’ve read John Eldredge’s Wild at Heart, and they learned about purity before they learned about sex—and they have a silver ring to prove it. Evangelical books, films, music, clothing, and merchandise shape the beliefs of millions. And evangelical culture is teeming with muscular heroes—mythical warriors and rugged soldiers, men like Oliver North, Ronald Reagan, Mel Gibson, and the Duck Dynasty clan, who assert white masculine power in defense of “Christian America.” Chief among these evangelical legends is John Wayne, an icon of a lost time when men were uncowed by political correctness, unafraid to tell it like it was, and did what needed to be done. Challenging the commonly held assumption that the “moral majority” backed Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020 for purely pragmatic reasons, Du Mez reveals that Trump in fact represented the fulfillment, rather than the betrayal, of white evangelicals’ most deeply held values: patriarchy, authoritarian rule, aggressive foreign policy, fear of Islam, ambivalence toward #MeToo, and opposition to Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ community. A much-needed reexamination of perhaps the most influential subculture in this country, Jesus and John Wayne shows that, far from adhering to biblical principles, modern white evangelicals have remade their faith, with enduring consequences for all Americans.

Book excerpt: During the presidency of President Donald Trump, it became evident to me that the prophecies about the Son of Man, as predicted by Jesus in the Bible were, to a significant extent, fulfilled at the hands of Mr Trump. The Bible speaks about two different Christs-or Messiahs. Jesus, the Son of God is the one Christ, whereas the Son of Man is the other. Jesus always referred to the Son of Man in the third person. The greatest distinction or significance between the Son of Man and the Son of God (the Lamb) is their respective positions at the throne of God. There are numerous differences between the Son of God and the Son of Man, but overall, people read these scriptures and they do not realize that the Son of God (the Lamb) stands in front of the throne of God, whereas the Son of Man, is positioned on the right hand of God. Jesus spoke about two different killings in the four gospels of the New Testament. People read these scriptures and are unaware that Jesus (the Son of God) predicted his own killing in the first person, as opposed to the several prophecies that He made in respects to the Son of Man who will be crucified. The New Testament speaks about "two Kings;" Jesus, the Son of God, is the "King of the Jews," whereas the Son of Man is the "King of Kings" who will be a world-ruler, and He will rule all the nations (the tribes) of the earth with a rod of iron. This book will explain in depth how "Donald John Trump's" full name literally means: "The Ruler of the World, graced by Yahweh (the LORD) and a descendant of a Drummer." Upon reading this book, the reader will be captivated when they realize how President Donald John Trump fulfilled most of the prophecies as the Son of Man. It speaks about End Time Prophecies and Biblical revelations regarding "President Donald J. Trump, the Son of Man. The Christ."

Book excerpt: This short story, at 130 pages, includes my three favorite topics: Damnation by Probability, religion, and of course, the anointed one--Donald J. Trump. My recommendation is to set off a few hours and go someplace quiet, with no distractions, so you can immerse yourself in this world-changing event I've created. It is not told with fictional characters but with current politicians, celebrities, and news anchors. This is a work of satire, parody, and fiction. Yes, Jesus Christ returns, in all His resplendent glory, and Donald J. Trump is anointed. It is Judgment Day. It's fast-paced, crazy, and funny. It does not take itself too seriously, but with over 110 actual Bible quotes, it will surprise, amuse, and hopefully educate. I'm not aware of anything quite like it-anywhere--ever. If anything, it reads like an episode of South Park (Trey and Mat--call me...). Or something Seth McFarlane would do (Sorry Seth, about the hell thing...I asked myself, "What would Jesus do?") All characterizations are parodies of actual people. It is a work of fiction. None of this has happened or will happen (What did you say? A golden chariot just landed in Times Square? Did you say right-winged horses? What does that even mean? I'm outa here...) The slant is definitely satirical, irreverent, and all are skewered in my Judgment tale: conservative and liberal, Republican and Democrat, religious and irreligious, rich and poor. There is a lot of political humor. Conservatives will cheer as the godless liberals get their just reward, but as our story progresses, it becomes clear that no one will escape judgment. Sinners will be sent to hell. A lot of sinners. A whole lot of sinners. Trust me, it's not pretty. It is The Second Coming. It is black humor, dark, biting, controversial, and sometimes hysterical. And, being sinners, there are a few F-bombs in our R-rated tale. So if you are easily offended, I would pass on this. Look inside or download a sample of the Kindle version. How would the personalities of today react to this world-changing event? Would they consider it "fake news?" Would they reject it as a hoax? Would they shoot the UAP out of the sky? How exactly would that play out? Instead of interpreting the Bible, as most do, we assume everything in the Old and New Testament is the Word of God and true. As Jesus says, "It is as it is written." Read the book to the end before you comment as it goes through several "phases" and you may not get the point (or humor) until the very last chapter. Also, no spoilers, please! If you like the book, please recommend it to your friends and leave a comment. If you have any comments you can contact me at my website: improbulos.com. Andrew Clark answers this question by analyzing Trump's profession of faith, his ego, "America First", his stance on abortion, his view on war, and multiple marriages in the light of Scripture. He concludes by calling Christians to examine their own hearts to be sure they aren't idolizing Trump or any other candidate over Jesus. Far from a political diatribe, this book presents the devastating case against Trump in order to give Christian voters a clear understanding of their choice between Jesus and The Donald.

Jesus loves borders, guns, unborn babies, and economic prosperity and hates homosexuality, taxes, welfare, and universal healthcare—or so say many Republican politicians, pundits, and preachers. Through outrageous misreadings of the New Testament gospels that started almost a century ago, conservative influencers have conjured a version of Jesus that speaks to their fears, desires, and resentments. In Republican Jesus, Tony Keddie explains not only where this right-wing Christ came from and what he stands for but also why this version of Jesus is a fraud. By restoring Republicans’ cherry-picked gospel texts to their original literary and historical contexts, Keddie dismantles the biblical basis for Republican positions on hot-button issues like Big Government, taxation, abortion, immigration, and climate change. At the same time, he introduces readers to an ancient Jesus whose life experiences and ethics were totally unlike those of modern Americans, conservatives and liberals alike.

Thirty evangelical Christians (listed below) wrestle with these tough questions. They are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. They don't all agree, but they seek to let Christ be the Lord of their political views. They seek to apply biblical standards to difficult debates about our current political situation. Vast numbers of white evangelicals enthusiastically support Donald Trump. Do biblical standards on truth, justice, life, freedom, and personal integrity warrant or challenge that support? How does that support of President Trump affect the image of Christianity in the larger culture? Around the world? Many younger evangelicals today are rejecting evangelical Christianity, even Christianity itself. To what extent is that because of widespread evangelical support for Donald Trump? Don't read this book to find support for your views. Read it to be challenged--with facts, reason, and biblical principles. With contributions from: Michael W. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the Trump Bible? Just as President Thomas Jefferson wrote his own version of the Holy Bible, so there appears to be a new version of the Bible that's in accord with the ideology of Donald Trump. That's not to say that Donald Trump wrote the Trump Bible. Who wrote the Trump Bible, then? This book is shrouded in mystery. There is no evidence that Donald Trump wrote the Trump Bible, but then, religion is about faith, not evidence. The manuscript for the Trump Bible was found wrapped in plain brown paper on the sidewalk outside Trump Tower in Manhattan by Peregrin Wood of Irregular Times. He is publishing the book, but does not claim authorship. For legal clarity, we are stating clearly that Donald Trump did not write the Trump Bible, although parts of it seem to be written using his voice, as divine inspiration, perhaps. There are heretics out there who will assert their own beliefs about who wrote the Trump Bible, though. Maybe God Himself wrote it, as a new new testament, inspired by Donald Trump's example. Why not? Are we supposed to take the Trump Bible seriously? Well, are we supposed to take Donald Trump seriously? What's the line between satire and fawning imitation? In these days of alternative facts and fake news, you'll have to decide for yourself. Maybe this book is comedy. Maybe it's tragedy. Certainly it's a postmodern self-referential hippie fest of moral relativity, satirizing satire itself. How can my church join the movement to ban the Trump Bible? Please go to IrregularTimes.com, where you can sign up for the campaign to censor the Trump Bible as a piece of illegal blasphemy. After all, if we can't ban books in the Christian nation of the USA, where can we ban books? How dare you blaspheme our lord and savior? We're not sure if this question refers to Donald Trump or Jesus Christ. But to answer your question - how do we do it - we use a keyboard and the sacred power of the Internet. The Trump Bible may be thought of as an allegorical confrontation of an uncomfortable fact: The majority of Trump voters in 2016 were Christian, and the overwhelming majority of Christian voters in the USA voted for Donald Trump. So, Trumpism and Christianity appear to be blending into something new, a strange, aggressive theocratic chimera the likes of which Americans have never seen before. Straight commentary can only get us so far in an attempt to understand this development. As American Christians appear to be questioning the basic tenets of their religion, a new Bible that reflects their views, and the unique character of Donald Trump as the leader of not only the Republican Party, but also of American Christianity, could move the discussion forward into a more positive... Oh, who are we kidding? Probably, the Trump Bible is only going to add to the polarization at the heart of American culture. C'est la guerre! Onward Christian soldiers, marching off to war!

Book excerpt: "Jesus the Messiah" is a basic, non-technical introduction to the life of Christ, carefully tracing His life and works as evidence of the truth of His claims and of the firm convictions of the early Christians--an inspirational study of Christ's life. The author prefaces his work by admitting that "Many deny the possibility of writing a life of Jesus, and it must be conceded that no 'life' in the biographical sense can be written. It is impossible to produce a psychological study of Jesus. His developing awareness of messianic mission cannot be traced. This book presents an account of Jesus from the perspective of faith. It sees in His deeds and words evidence of the truth of His claims and of the firm convictions of the early Christians. . . . No one who reflects on His life and mission can fail to be affected by it, and in this sense the present study is in the nature of a personal testimony."

Miller shares what he's learned firsthand--that our relationship with God is designed to teach us about redemption, grace, healing, and so much more. Searching for God Knows What weaves together timeless stories and fresh perspectives on the Bible to capture one man's journey to discover an authentic faith that's worth believing. Along the way, Miller poses his own questions about faith, religion, and community, asking: What if the motive behind our theology was relational? What if our value exists because God takes pleasure in us? What if the gospel of Jesus is an invitation to know God? Maybe you're a Christian wondering what faith you signed up for. Or maybe you don't believe anything and are daring someone to show you a genuine example of genuine faith. Somewhere beyond the self-help formulas, fancy marketing, and easy promises, there is a life-changing experience with God waiting for you--it just takes a little bit of searching. Praise for Searching for God Knows What: "Like a shaken snow globe, Donald Miller's newest collection of essays creates a swirl of ideas about the Christian life that eventually crystallize into a lovely landscape...[He] is one of the evangelical book market's most creative writers." --Christianity Today "If you have felt that Jesus is someone you respect and admire--but Christianity is something that repels you--Searching for God Knows What will give you hope that you still can follow Jesus and be part of a church without the trappings of organized religion." --Dan Kimball, author of The Emerging Church and Pastor of Vintage Faith Church, Santa Cruz, CA "For fans of Blue Like Jazz, I doubt you will be disappointed. Donald Miller writes with the wit and vulnerability that you expect. He perfectly illustrates important themes in a genuine and humorous manner...For those who would be reading Miller for the first time, this would be a great start." --Relevant

Book excerpt: “Through the pages of this book, I invite you into various spaces of sanctuary—not as places of retreat, but for the deepened resistance, vision, and transformation that these days, and the gospel, require.” Throughout her nearly forty years in ministry, Heidi Neumark has strived to make communities of faith into sanctuaries amid the turmoils of life. Now, with the social and political upheaval of the years since Donald Trump was elected president, Neumark believes the true Christian calling is to live out a counterpoint to today’s prevailing spirits of exclusion and hatred. Using her own bilingual, multicultural congregation as a model, she moves through the seasons of the church calendar to reflect on what it looks like to live out essential Christian convictions in community with others. Sanctuary is an amplifier for the many voices crying out against policies and rhetoric that are cruel, dehumanizing, and dangerous. Neumark begins each chapter with a quote from Donald Trump that she defies and dismantles with the power of her own stories—anecdotes about offering shelter for queer youth in her city, supporting immigrants and asylum-seekers being harassed by ICE, and embracing her church’s diversity with a Guadalupe celebration, to name a few. Timely, but also timeless, this book speaks to the deep wounds of this era, inflicted before and during the Trump presidency, which will remain long past its end.
