Download or read book The Way to Win written by Jeff Little and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we find something valuable that helps us accomplish the things that matter most, we don't let go of it. Life is not a game. However, on multiple occasions, the Bible uses competitive sports metaphors to demonstrate the discipline and training necessary to grow and become everything God created you to be. The things we care about most -- our identity, our purpose, our relationships -- are far more important than a game. We have to learn to win in these areas. We understand development when it comes to sports, our careers, our hobbies, and even our personal lives. There are tangible goals we can shoot for. And yet, when it comes to our spiritual lives, it often feels more elusive. This book is not a fail-proof formula to avoid pain, challenges, or adversity. It's a journey to a deeper relationship with God. This is the reason you were created. This is winning in life. This is what you're going to care about when you come to the end of your life and wonder, "Did my life matter?" What if you could be developed in your professional career through a greater understanding of God's Word? What if you could learn to build a healthy culture both in your workplace and in your home? What if you could win in the areas of life that you care about the most?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A journey into the roots of Jeff Johnson’s feelings and attitudes and responses to life conditions which were learned from the approaches to life that existed in his family, that were forged from the people he met, his cultures, in short, all that he ever was can be found in the seeds of where he’d been and what he learned there. Jeff Johnson, a Black man. A strong beautiful, and proud member of the Creole tribes. He is aware of his tie to slaves brought to his hometown, St. Louis, once the seat of the Louisiana Purchase, a city he practically raised himself in for nearly twenty years, a city he left. Jeff lived in Los Angeles for four years. In the Gare de l’est, in all of the motion and awe of Paris, Jeff reflects on his life as a hustler in Los Angeles, a life that began as a two-year college student but twisted into days and nights between the sheets and about the lives of L.A.’s Black bourgeoisie and other busy cold, and lonely souls of the city of angels. It is in the Gare, while waiting for a storage locker - before stepping into Paris, that Jeff takes a long retrospective, candid look at his life in L.A. - a life he had bought a one-way ticket from, a set of lessons, most painful, all colorful, experiences he had to stop having. Experiences like death and riots that made him move. Jeff senses the conservatism of everyday Bordeaux on the streets and in nearby villages and reflects upon the meaning of life for him, a Black man, anywhere on the planet, and eventually realizes that he has learned much during the summer of ’92 in France, but he also knows that to best apply what he’s learned, returning to somewhere in his country would be best.

Book Synopsis Beyond the Xs and Os by : Mark C. Poloncarz
Download or read book Beyond the Xs and Os written by Mark C. Poloncarz and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 2019-08-19 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inside account of the negotiations between the football Bills, New York State, and Erie County to sign a long-term stadium lease and thereby keep the team in Buffalo. Beyond the Xs and Os is the previously unpublished story of how a long-term stadium lease was negotiated and signed by New York’s Erie County, the state, and the Buffalo Bills football team. Mark C. Poloncarz, the elected executive of the community that owned the stadium, provides a rare glimpse into the long, difficult, but ultimately rewarding effort to successfully conclude negotiations between a National Football League (NFL) franchise, the NFL, and a multitude of players from the political arena, including Governor Andrew Cuomo and US Senator Chuck Schumer. Poloncarz discusses the financial side of sports and reveals how the county was able to navigate what proved to be often-turbulent waters. Complicating negotiations was an ongoing frenzy in the local news media, hungry for any news about the new lease, and Bills team owner Ralph C. Wilson Jr., who was ninety-two and had said the team would be sold upon his death, thereby possibly being relocated to another city. In the end, a new lease was signed and the Bills remained in Buffalo at a time when a number of similar sized communities watched their teams relocate to other cities in larger markets. “…Mark C. Poloncarz’s book … offers the most complete, inside-football account of how the county, the state and the Bills navigated a lengthy negotiation that ultimately resulted in a 10-year lease of the Bills stadium in early 2013. The book is filled with political insights and surprises … it also offers flashes of wit, recountings of fraught conversations and interesting anecdotal nuggets.” — Buffalo News “Bills fans are very familiar with their favorite players and what happens on the field, but few understand the business side of the game and what it took to keep the franchise here in Buffalo. Mark Poloncarz’s book gives the reader a seat at the bargaining table, listening in on developments as Mr. Wilson’s representatives and governmental officials negotiate terms to keep Buffalo’s football team playing here in Erie County. High-stakes decisions and relentless pressure run throughout Beyond the Xs and Os, a book that shows Bills fans how the measures put in place by Poloncarz and others kept our beloved team here.” — Thurman Thomas, former Buffalo Bills running back and member of the Professional and College Football Halls of Fame “Mark Poloncarz’s book is an exhaustive, meticulously detailed account of one of the most seminal moments in the history of Western New York. All the better because it comes from original source material: the person in the room and at the negotiating table! It’s required reading for those who care not only about the Bills but also about their impact on the region’s future for decades to come. The public owes Mark a debt of gratitude for making all this information public and for his hard work on a strong relocation penalty in the team’s lease with the county—it no doubt kept the Bills in Buffalo.” — Luke Russert, Washington, DC-based journalist/political reporter and lifelong Buffalo Bills fan “This book is a must-read for those who want to know more about the business of professional sports. It offers a rare peek into the intensity of stadium negotiations to keep a professional sports franchise in a city. Mark Poloncarz has written a primer on what it takes to conduct hard-nosed negotiations that protect the fan base and the community, and on how he helped to keep the Bills in Buffalo. It is an up-close look for Buffalo Bills fans, or for anyone interested in learning more about the business side of sports.” — Andrea Kimball, Vice President and General Counsel of the MLS soccer club, Sporting Kansas City “Enjoyable behind-the-scenes descriptions of the political dramas, as well as personal and humorous anecdotes. The subject is ‘do or die’ for the vast majority of Bills Nation!” — Nellie Drew, University at Buffalo School of Law

Ben & Jerry’s has always been committed to an insanely ambitious three-part mission: making the world’s best ice cream, supporting progressive causes, and sharing the company’s success with all stakeholders: employees, suppliers, distributors, customers, cows, everybody. But it hasn’t been easy. This is the first book to tell the full, inside story of the inspiring rise, tragic mistakes, devastating fall, determined recovery, and ongoing renewal of one of the most iconic mission-driven companies in the world. No previous book has focused so intently on the challenges presented by staying true to that mission. No other book has explained how the company came to be sold to corporate giant Unilever or how that relationship evolved to allow Ben & Jerry’s to pursue its mission on a much larger stage. Journalist Brad Edmondson tells the story with an eye for details, dramatic moments, and memorable characters. He interviewed dozens of key figures, particularly Jeff Furman, who helped Ben and Jerry write their first business plan in 1978 and became chairman of the board in 2010. It’s a funny, sad, surprising, and ultimately hopeful story.

Download or read book Wetbones written by John Shirley and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2015-10-06 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A flesh-and-soul-devouring addiction runs rampant through the dark playground of the Hollywood elite in this tale of horror from a Bram Stoker Award winner. Welcome to Los Angeles, where every addiction is encouraged. . . . Struggling Hollywood screenwriter Tom Prentice can hardly believe that the emaciated and mutilated corpse lying on the morgue slab was once his ex-wife. Then his roommate’s missing brother turns up in a local hospital having sliced open his own chest and legs for some sick, inexplicable reason. In Oakland, the Reverend Garner, a recovering addict, leaves his ministry in search of his teenage daughter, who was last seen in the company of her ghoulish kidnapper. And the Los Angeles police are meanwhile baffled in their hunt for the elusive “Wetbones” serial killer who leaves nothing of his victims behind except a damp, grisly pile of bones. Though Tom, the reverend, and the LAPD are on separate quests for answers, they are all being led into the darkest shadows of Hollywood, where the debauchery never ceases and pleasure is a drug that devours human flesh, blood, and sanity. But the true source of the all-consuming addiction is the most horrifying revelation of all, for it is not of this rational Earth. From International Horror Guild Award–winning author John Shirley, the acclaimed “splatterpunk” classic Wetbones combines the monstrous inventiveness of H. P. Lovecraft with the exquisite excess of Clive Barker. A true masterwork of modern terror, it’s decidedly not for the faint of heart.
