Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1984, this collection of original papers highlights the major problems and challenges that lie ahead in U.S.-Japanese energy relations. Energy cooperation, both through joint projects and bilateral planning, has become an important barometer of the U.S. diplomatic relationship with Japan, as evidenced by the high-level U.S.-Japan Energy Working Group set up in January 1984 following Prime Minister Nakasone's visit to Washington. Contributions to this book detail the problems posed by energy security differences and uncertain oil markets; U.S. crude oil exports to Japan; and nuclear, coal solar-energy; and they consider the prospects for conflict over investment in Siberia and Asia

Book Synopsis The Dynamics of Japan's Relations with Africa by : Kweku Ampiah
Download or read book The Dynamics of Japan's Relations with Africa written by Kweku Ampiah and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to examine in-depth Japan's relations with Africa. Japan's dependence on raw materials from South Africa made it impossible for Tokyo in the 1970s and 1980s to support other African states in their fight against the minority government and its policy of apartheid. Kweku Ampiah's detailed analysis of Japan's political, economic and diplomatic relations with sub-Saharan Africa from 1974 to the early 1990s makes it clear that Japan was lukewarm in the struggle against apartheid. Case studies of Tanzania and Nigeria dissect Japan's trade, aid and investment policies in sub-Saharan Africa more widely.

Book Synopsis Energy Security in Japan by : Vlado Vivoda
Download or read book Energy Security in Japan written by Vlado Vivoda and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a country already uneasy about energy security, the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, which caused a nuclear catastrophe at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, turned pre-existing Japanese concern about the availability of energy into outright anxiety. The subsequent closure of many nuclear reactors meant Japan needed to replace lost power quickly and so had no choice but to secure additional fossil fuels, undermining Japanese diversification policy and increasing global and regional competition for energy. This switch has been at a cost to the already weak Japanese economy whilst the increase in fossil fuel consumption has caused a significant increase in greenhouse gas emissions. In this book Vlado Vivoda examines the drastically changed environment following the disaster in order to analyse Japan’s energy security challenges and evaluate Tokyo’s energy policy options. Looking at how the disaster exacerbated Japan’s existing energy security challenges, Vivoda considers the best policy options for Japan to enhance national energy security in the future, exploring the main impediments to change and how they might be overcome.

Book Synopsis Russian Energy Policy During President Putin's Tenure by : Danila Bochkarev
Download or read book Russian Energy Policy During President Putin's Tenure written by Danila Bochkarev and published by GMB Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2006 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important report looks at the policies and strategies President Putin has developed in the field of energy and at the current climate for foreign investors in the sector. Russian energy policy is at an important watershed. A substantial increase in the output of oil & gas, has led some analysts to view Russia as a reliable, alternative to global dependence on energy supplies from the Gulf. On the other hand, there are concerns that current Russian energy strategy comes closer to the Venezuelan OCyenergy state-capitalismOCO model where foreign energy companies are welcome to invest, but only on MoscowOCOs terms and in partnership with a state-controlled national energy company. How are these strategies unfolding and what are the lessons for private sector investors?"
