Book Synopsis The Japanese Army Handbook 1939-1945 by : George Forty

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an insight into the most feared army of World War II. The Japanese Imperial Army grew from 1.5 million men in 1939 to 5.5 million men by the end of the war. Their highly successful campaigns in the Far East and the Pacific at the beginning of World War II were every bit as spectacular as those of the Germans in Europe, and they earned an enviable reputation as expert jungle fighters which it took some years for the Allies to match. Their code of honour also made them extremely cruel enemies to prisoners and civilians alike, while their Kamikaze suicidal tendencies meant they would automatically fight to the last without any thought of surrender. Fully illustrated with rare archive photographs, this is a comprehensive study of the army. The author describes how they mobilized and trained their soldiers, and looks at their organizational structures, from high command down to divisional level and below. Also included are uniforms, equipment, all kinds of weapons ranging from tanks and artillery, technical equipment, tactics, symbology and vehicle markings.
Book Synopsis Japanese Tanks 1939–45 by : Steven J. Zaloga
Download or read book Japanese Tanks 1939–45 written by Steven J. Zaloga and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-12-20 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Japanese Army used tanks to great effect in the build-up to World War II. Inspired by European designs, in the 1920s and 1930s an innovative Japanese tank program facilitated their campaigns in China prior to the Pacific War. During the ensuing war against the Allies tanks were deployed imaginatively in jungle terrain previously thought impassable by such vehicles, being integral in Malaya and the capture of Singapore. Steven J Zaloga uses detailed and colorful artwork and photographs to explore these designs, explaining their neglect in favor of the naval priorities that left Japanese tanks outmoded by Western designs.

Book Synopsis Nomonhan: Japanese-Soviet Tactical Combat, 1939 by : Edward J. Drea
Download or read book Nomonhan: Japanese-Soviet Tactical Combat, 1939 written by Edward J. Drea and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-04-06 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nomonhan" was a strong beginning for the Combat Studies Institute's publishing program. Author Drea's mastery of the Japanese-language source material, his interviews, his thorough use of U.S. archival material all make this a superb study that stands the test of time. Goldman and Coox have written on Nomonhan sice this volume was released, however neither does what Drea does here: render a complete, battalion-level account of the battles from the Japanese perspective. This is tactical level combat explained at its best. Previously available only in hard-to read html and Acrobat files, this completely redesigned book includes 19 maps, dozens of tables and pictures (including combat photographs), appendices, notes, and a bibliography. About the author: Dr. Edward J. Drea was a research fellow with the Combat Studies Institute. He received his masters degree in history from Sophia University, Tokyo and his PhD from the University of Kansas. He lived and studied in Japan for six years.
Book Synopsis Japanese Military Forces (March 1942) by : Ghq India Staff
Download or read book Japanese Military Forces (March 1942) written by Ghq India Staff and published by . This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Japanese armed forces entered the Second World War with the attack on Pearl Harbour in the Pacific Ocean on 7 December, 1941. Almost simultaneously Japanese land forces invaded the Malayan peninsula, sweeping southwards towards Singapore. Although the attacks were shrouded in initial secrecy, both American and British Intelligence had studied the Japanese forces, and this is one of the resulting publications. The pamphlet is a very rare item, and is reprinted because of both its rarity and importance. General Headquarters India issued it in March 1942, and it covers the Japanese Army and, to a lesser degree, the Japanese Air Force. As with all military intelligence publications the pamphlet starts with an overview of the subject, in this case the political influence of the Japanese Army, which was considerable. There follows a detailed examination of the organisation of the Army and its administration. Chapters on infantry, cavalry, artillery, armoured fighting vehicles and airborne troops are accompanied by descriptions of Japanese engineer and service troops. There are also descriptions of chemical warfare, tactics (all forms), and the fifth column, so important in the campaign in Malaya. There are tables and coloured plates to illustrate the pamphlet, and line drawings of Japanese tanks and their flags, together with some contemporary photographs of Japanese troops in action.

Book Synopsis Japanese Tanks 1939–45 by : Steven J. Zaloga
Download or read book Japanese Tanks 1939–45 written by Steven J. Zaloga and published by Osprey Publishing. This book was released on 2007-08-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contrary to popular belief, the Japanese Army widely employed tanks within the Pacific theater of war. This title details their key role in the conquests of Singapore and Malaya, as well as their later use in Burma, Saipan, and the Philippines, including in the amphibious assault of Corregidor. Tank development succeeded against the odds, with the programme often neglected to pursue the higher priority of warship development. Their use in the most difficult of terrain is a testament to their ingenuity. Steven J Zaloga's book offers a rare insight into a largely overlooked subject and is rich with photographs and artwork, providing a wonderful resource for the construction and design of these fascinating tanks.
