Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive survey of women in the Weimar Republic, exploring the diversity and multiplicity of women’s experiences in the economy, politics and society. Taking the First World War as a starting point, this book explores the great changes in the lives, expectations, and perceptions of German women, with new opportunities in employment, education and political life and greater freedoms in their private and social life, all played out in the media spotlight. Engaging with the most recent research and debates, this book portrays the Weimar Republic as a period of progressive change for young, urban women, to be stalled in 1933. This book will be essential reading for students and researchers of German women in the early twentieth century, and will also appeal to anyone interested in the Weimar Republic and women’s history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a bibliography of the research on the Dead Sea Scrolls published during the last 25 years, and as such it provides scholars with an indispensable tool for further research. Although originally planned as a continuation of B. Jongeling's A Classified Bibliography of the Finds of the Desert of Judah 1958-1969, the materials are presented in a different way in order to avoid unnecessary duplications of entries. Each bibliographical entry is alphabetically listed in the first part of the book and is provided with an identification number which allows for multiple classifications. The second part offers a sophisticated classification of the materials by themes, topics and key words, but also by manuscript numbers and titles of the compositions as well as by authors.

Book Synopsis Forms of Power by : Gianfranco Poggi
Download or read book Forms of Power written by Gianfranco Poggi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-04-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political power is often viewed as the sole embodiment of 'socialpower', even while we recognize that social power manifests itselfin different forms and institutional spheres. This new book byGianfranco Poggi suggests that the three principal forms of socialpower - the economic, the normative/ideological and the political -are based on a group's privileged access to and control overdifferent resources. Against this general background, Poggi shows how variousembodiments of normative/ideological and economic power have bothmade claims on political power (considered chiefly as it isembodied in the state) and responded in turn to the latter'sattempt to control or to instrumentalize them. The embodiment ofideological power in religion and in modern intellectual elites isexamined in the context of their relations to the state. Poggi alsoexplores both the demands laid upon the state by the business eliteand the impact of the state's fiscal policies on the economicsphere. The final chapter considers the relationship between astate's political class and its military elite, which tends to usethe resource of organized coercion for its own ends. Forms of Power will be of interest to students and scholars ofsociology and politics.
