Book excerpt: Ten Thousand Miles From Home is the first book of the Jack’s Chase series. It tells the tale of young aspiring journalist Jack O’Sullivan, who is drawn to the action and drama of the Vietnam war like a magnet. Determined to make his mark in the world as an award winning war correspondent, he hounds his editor and anyone else who matters until they finally give in and send him ten thousand miles to the other side of the earth into a world of bombs and bullets, a world of fear and confusion. He enters into a frustrating struggle and finds that the Vietnam conflict (like most wars) is not just man against man, but also man against the elements of nature and his own personal state of mind. He learns that the things his WW2 veteran father tried to warn him about war, are more mind-damaging that he could possibly imagine. Told first hand, this is Jack’s story of the end of his innocent youth and his difficult initiation into the life of a man in war. Along the way he not only discovers friendships found and lost, but has to learn to survive amongst the harsh and unforgiving environment and also finds himself embroiled in an ever-deepening mystery surrounding one of the best soldiers in the platoon, Sergeant Ben Cale. What starts out as the prospect of a great story, becomes a situation which captures Jack’s full determination to get to the bottom of; the involvement of elements of high level secrecy only strengthens his resolve to pursue the story to the end. With the help of his camera-man and good friend Wesley Banks, he manages to uncover some of the aspects of the man’s personality, but while attempting to bring light to the shadows of his hidden past they manage to attract some unwanted attention. Striving to balance the art of good journalism without over-stepping the official boundaries and trying to stay sane and alive while out in the jungle with the platoon gives Jack a constantly changing mix of satisfaction, frustration and of course, at times, total mental stress. The final part of the story sees the men of 108 Platoon caught up in a battle which becomes a week long struggle of life and death. Every ounce of Jack’s courage, stamina and strength of mind is called upon to not give up, even when his comrades are falling around him and it seems like all hope is lost. He marvels at the combat skills of the men and their ability to keep fighting for survival in a world he can only liken to hell, a world he just wants to get away from now that he knows it at its worst. Towards the end of this epic odyssey, Jack learns some unusual information which gives him an important key to the possibility of unlocking the mystery that is Ben Cale, however he is left wondering what it is that he might uncover and how it may affect his life afterwards. The story of Jack O’Sullivan includes his own observations on not only the reality of war, but also the human elements of the people caught up within it. The mystery surrounding Ben Cale adds a level of intrigue to the tale which will keep the reader hungry for more.

Book excerpt: Amid the fury and hatred that followed the Civil War, a man was lucky to have one good friend. Texas Jack Vermillion and Turkey Creek Jack Johnson were two such friends Jack Walton Vermillion, at a very young age worked on the Clem Johnson ranch in West Texas where he almost became one of the family. He was given the nickname of Texas Jack by the old cattleman Charlie Goodnight. Jack was later known as SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT JACK! Jack Johnson also received his nickname, TURKEY CREEK JACK JOHNSON from Charlie Goodnight because his ranch was in the small town of Turkey Creek, Texas, just a few miles south of Fort Worth. This story tells about their adventures and how two young men became seasoned cowboys on their first trail drive. They learn what it means to ride for the brand, how loyalty to your fellow cowboys can mean the difference between life and a brutal death on the plains. Book excerpt: The classic traditional Regency from /New York Times bestselling author, Loretta Chase, is back... “One of the finest and most delightful writers in romance.” –Mary Jo Putney What’s a girl to do, when her father, known as Devil Desmond, is one of the most infamous rogues in all of England? Delilah Desmond is not happy. To provide for her, her father has sold his memoirs, filled with scandalous and embarrassing exploits—effectively ruining her chances for a suitable marriage, so she can support her family while saving her father from disgrace. But it seems the manuscript is in demand by all sorts of unscrupulous persons, and preventing its publication is going to be impossible; especially now that it has been stolen. Can the hot-tempered Delilah and her very unwilling accomplice, absent-minded, bookish, Jack Langdon with his soft grey eyes and tousled hair, salvage the disaster? It appears that deceptively quiet Jack may have a core of steel—and be the one man smart and strong enough to be the hero she’d been hoping for all along.

Book excerpt: In the fourth sexy romance by the New York Times bestselling author of Tangled and Twisted, Drew and Kate can’t wait to tie the knot—if they can survive the pre-wedding festivities. For most of my life, I never imagined I’d get married. But Kate did the impossible: she changed me. I think we can all agree I was pretty frigging awesome before, but now I’m even better. The road to this day wasn’t all rainbows and boners. There were mistakes and misunderstandings worthy of a Greek tragedy. But Kate and I made it through with our inexhaustible lust, boundless admiration, and everlasting love for one another intact. That being said, there were some unexpected incidents in Vegas last weekend that could have been a problem. It was kind of…my final test. I know what you’re thinking—what the hell did you do this time? Relax. Let’s not judge, or call for my castration, until you’ve heard the whole story. And hold on tight, because you’re in for a wild ride. Did you expect anything less?

Book excerpt: Even now the married couple is missing. Even now they are presumed dead. Jack Dorcha braces up his grandson who has been led by the nose. With Chase having been mortified and Wren terror-stricken, Jack Dorcha cabals to super-impose upon the writing on Chase’s wall a fatal image, and to send Wren down the river of his amphibious justice, by flying in the faces of their temerarious self-induced meltdowns. Once again the tables are being turned. Either Chase weasels what he alleges to harbour or Wren finally unriddles the murders, or they will both be snuffed out. It is no longer a question of Wren empathising with and emulating the trials and tribulations of Glasson and Chase, and no longer a question of Glasson or Chase stumping for it. It is now more of a question as to whether they can ransom their floundering lives and their benighted families. Chase suborns Wren with a salmagundi of afferent experiences, while Wren buffaloes Chase with his unswerving crownings. Can they live with their howlers? Who will win this time? The conscience-stricken retired special adjudicator, the self-violent former employer of torture judges, the atomised crime-writing uncle, the moribund grandfather of gangster hood, the tamed mafioso of Glasgow, the stochastic new murderer, or one of the pertinacious suspects?
