Book excerpt: From Stonewall Award winner Brandy Colbert comes a novel about first love, family, and hidden secrets that will stay with you long after turning the last page. Dove "Birdie" Randolph works hard to be the perfect daughter and follow the path her parents have laid out for her: She quit playing her beloved soccer, she keeps her nose buried in textbooks, and she's on track to finish high school at the top of her class. But then Birdie falls hard for Booker, a sweet boy with a troubled past . . . whom she knows her parents will never approve of. When her estranged aunt Carlene returns to Chicago and moves into the family's apartment above their hair salon, Birdie notices the tension building at home. Carlene is sweet, friendly, and open-minded -- she's also spent decades in and out of treatment facilities for addiction. As Birdie becomes closer to both Booker and Carlene, she yearns to spread her wings. But when long-buried secrets rise to the surface, everything she's known to be true is turned upside down.

The townies and gownies get along well enough, and most folks accept their neighbors of all colors, creeds, and orientations. The Unitarian Universalist church downtown is just another house of worship, albeit a bit more liberal than average for a Texas town. The UUs enjoy their jobs (mostly), help their less fortunate neighbors, and raise healthy, intelligent children. Its all just too good to last. After a popular, outspoken intern minister arrives, important objects start disappearing, then reappearing. Accounts get hacked, windows get broken, and a well-known church member is found strangled. And then it gets really weird. A large ensemble cast of members and friends put heads and hearts together to figure out who is sabotaging their beloved churchand why. Many of them dont consider themselves religious, but they will defend this church to the death if necessary. In their struggle, they find unlikely allies, bizarre misdirections, great vegan Tex-Mex, killer margaritas, excellent weed, the joys and perils of polyamory, and Transylvanian hospitality that cant be beat.

In high school, she is valedictorian and president of her senior class and voted most likely to succeed by her peers. One thing is clear--her political aspirations have no limits. When Hope arrives on the Howard University campus in Washington, DC her freshman year, she meets and falls in love with Wes Carter, a former Army Sergeant. Hope is not aware that on the surface Trent appears to be a successful attorney and political advisor to Washington's elite, but underneath he is a functional manic depressive with dark secrets from his childhood. It is not long before Trent's deteriorating mental condition endangers her life and she becomes a victim of his psychotic, violent episodes. Hope has a choice to make. She can choose to seek help or continue the charade in order to prevent a public relations nightmare and jeopardize her political career. Her choice will forever change her life and the lives of the people around her. Tithe of Blood is written with bluntness as it follows the timely political and emotional journey of Hope Caryn Taylor.

Book excerpt: First there was Napoleon, then came Hitler, now there was a third one, but he was different. He was born to be the anti-Christ, to be the destroyer of the world, but his love for his fellowmen caused him to change. He saw the sufferings of the people and decided to help them instead. He had the power of a god; he could turn back the hands of time, but he wasn't seeking to control the lives of his people, nor was he seeking fame and fortune; he was looking to save people from themselves. His father did not approve, but he didn't care. He saw the amount of evil that had consumed his father and didn't want that to consume him, so he chose to do good over evil. But it wasn't easy though; for every good deed that he did, he had to pay. The evil inside of him was fighting to come out, but he knew he couldn't afford to let that happen, because then all the people he had grown to love would be destroyed, but with each passing day he was getting weaker. Was he going to give into the evil inside?

Book Synopsis A Time Travel Dialogue by : John W. Carroll
Download or read book A Time Travel Dialogue written by John W. Carroll and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is time travel just a confusing plot device deployed by science fiction authors and Hollywood filmmakers to amaze and amuse? Or might empirical data prompt a scientific hypothesis of time travel? Structured on a fascinating dialogue involving a distinguished physicist, Dr. Rufus, a physics graduate student and a computer scientist this book probes an experimentally supported hypothesis of backwards time travel – and in so doing addresses key metaphysical issues, such as causation, identity over time and free will. The setting is the Jefferson National Laboratory during a period of five days in 2010. Dr. Rufus’s experimental search for the psi-lepton and the resulting intractable data spurs the discussion on time travel. She and her two colleagues are pushed by their observations to address the grandfather paradox and other puzzles about backwards causation, with attention also given to causal loops, multi-dimensional time, and the prospect that only the present exists. Sensible solutions to the main puzzles emerge, ultimately advancing the case for time travel really being possible. A Time Travel Dialogue addresses the possibility of time travel, approaching familiar paradoxes in a rigorous, engaging, and fun manner. It follows in the long philosophical tradition of using dialogue to present philosophical ideas and arguments, but is ground breaking in its use of the dialogue format to introduce readers to the metaphysics of time travel, and is also distinctive in its use of lab results to drive philosophical analysis. The discussion of data that might decide whether time is one-dimensional (one timeline) or multi-dimensional (branching time) is especially novel.
Book Synopsis A Collection of Inspiring and Anointed Christian Plays by : Merilyn Fennell
Download or read book A Collection of Inspiring and Anointed Christian Plays written by Merilyn Fennell and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first play God inspired me to write, Like Father, Like Son, made grown men weep openly in the congregation. It was a play about a man causing his son to be left in the rapture. Sometimes a program for our church would be due in two weeks, and my mind would be blank. I would take pen and paper in hand and tell God, You know and I know I can't do this. He authored all my plays like taking dictation. I would sit down at my dining room table and wait for God. When the anointing came, I could write eighteen to twenty pages without stopping and know every character for each part. I never wanted to take glory from him and at the times the applause for me bothered me, until one night as people began to applaud, I felt all the applause come straight toward my heart and stopped midair, and immediately the praise went straight up to God-letting me know he was receiving the glory and honor for all the plays. Very interesting and unique plays that would be make wonderful Christmas movies-whatever God wants to do with them. So many, many souls were won to God-different things causing hopes to so many people. So amazing. So wonderful to be called a soul winner.
