Book Synopsis Pakistan: Caught in the Whirlwind by : Wg Cdr C Deepak Dogra
Download or read book Pakistan: Caught in the Whirlwind written by Wg Cdr C Deepak Dogra and published by Lancer Publishers LLC. This book was released on 2015-12-09 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is indeed a critical analysis of history of political development of Pakistan. The hypothesis floated in the book, seeking peaceful coexistence of two people who are identical in more than one way, finds it difficult to sustain in wake of the political absurdities being committed by certain imprudent elements. With more Muslims in India, Pakistan has long lost its postulation that it was carved out of British India as a nation for Indian Muslims. The two nation theory, which saw its silent burial after partition of Pakistan, had been based on a faulty proposition that Hindus and Muslims of India were two distinct nationalities. Post formation, its nation building has gone through twists and turns of political turbulence that has been discussed in detail in this book. Besides focusing on the infamous military regimes, the author has also analyzed socio-political upbringing of this nation under popular governments. Having discussed the foreign policy dilemmas of the country, its role in pre and post-Taliban Afghanistan has also been dwelled upon. Nation’s obsession with K word seems to have shut all its routes to rationality and prosperity besides denying it the privilege of peaceful coexistence with its parent country. The author has also attempted to look through the frosted glass to perceive possible future scenario for the nation that continues to remain an uncertainty.

Book Synopsis Pillars of the Nation by : Kristen E. Cheney
Download or read book Pillars of the Nation written by Kristen E. Cheney and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-09-15 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can children simultaneously be the most important and least powerful people in a nation? In her innovative ethnography of Ugandan children—the pillars of tomorrow’s Uganda, according to the national youth anthem—Kristen E. Cheney answers this question by exploring the daily contradictions children face as they try to find their places amid the country’s rapidly changing social conditions. Drawing on the detailed life histories of several children, Cheney shows that children and childhood are being redefined by the desires of a young country struggling to position itself in the international community. She moves between urban schools, music festivals, and war zones to reveal how Ugandans are constructing childhood as an empowering identity for the development of the nation. Moreover, through her analysis of children’s rights ideology, national government strategy, and children’s everyday concerns, Cheney also shows how these young citizens are vitally linked to the global political economy as they navigate the pitfalls and possibilities for a brighter tomorrow.

Book Synopsis The Hindu Self and Its Muslim Neighbors by : Ankur Barua
Download or read book The Hindu Self and Its Muslim Neighbors written by Ankur Barua and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-04-25 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Hindu Self and its Muslim Neighbors, the author sketches the contours of relations between Hindus and Muslims in Bengal. The central argument is that various patterns of amicability and antipathy have been generated towards Muslims over the last six hundred years and these patterns emerge at dynamic intersections between Hindu self-understandings and social shifts on contested landscapes. The core of the book is a set of translations of the Bengali writings of Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941), Kazi Nazrul Islam (1899–1976), and Annada Shankar Ray (1904–2002). Their lives were deeply interwoven with some Hindu–Muslim synthetic ideas and subjectivities, and these involvements are articulated throughout their writings which provide multiple vignettes of contemporary modes of amity and antagonism. Barua argues that the characterization of relations between Hindus and Muslims either in terms of an implacable hostility or of an unfragmented peace is historically inaccurate, for these relations were modulated by a shifting array of socio-economic and socio-political parameters. It is within these contexts that Rabindranath, Nazrul, and Annada Shankar are developing their thoughts on Hindus and Muslims through the prisms of religious humanism and universalism.

Book Synopsis Entry Planning for Equity-Focused Leaders by : Jennifer Perry Cheatham
Download or read book Entry Planning for Equity-Focused Leaders written by Jennifer Perry Cheatham and published by Harvard Education Press. This book was released on 2022-08-16 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vital resource for educational leaders, Entry Planning for Equity-Focused Leaders introduces an equity-minded process for intentional entry planning that sets the stage for sustainable change within organizations. In this practitioner-focused and action-oriented work, Jennifer Perry Cheatham, Rodney Thomas, and Adam Parrott-Sheffer consolidate their extensive experience centering equity in leadership. They affirm that the entry of a new leader, or the pivot of an established one, affords an unparalleled opportunity to garner the insight, trust, and commitment that will establish a basis for positive, equitable transformation within a system. This essential work provides a flexible framework for leadership entry that is customized to fit the complex social, political, and economic demands of a given organization and the community it serves. It highlights how such an approach prepares leaders to begin addressing one of the most entrenched and persistent issues in education: structural and systemic racism. Appealing to community and school leadership at all levels—superintendents, principals, project managers, and nonprofit partners, among others—the book presents seven components needed to enact an entry plan, from understanding context, to establishing transparency, to galvanizing partners for action. Through case studies and interviews, the authors explore the key skills necessary for each component. They then offer a wide range of supplementary tools and exercises to help leaders begin or recast their tenures and advance their agendas successfully. The process outlined here encourages readers to reflect, take calculated risks, and chart new paths. This book gives leaders the means to make necessary, meaningful progress.
