Book Synopsis Reynolds Number Effects on the Induced Pressures of Cylindrical Bodies with Different Nose Shapes and Nose Drag Coefficients in Helium at a Mach Number of 24 by : Richard D. Wagner (Jr.)
Download or read book Reynolds Number Effects on the Induced Pressures of Cylindrical Bodies with Different Nose Shapes and Nose Drag Coefficients in Helium at a Mach Number of 24 written by Richard D. Wagner (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exact inviscid pressure distributions and shock shapes, obtained by the method of characteristics, are compared with experimental data. The results indicate a strong dependence of induced pressures upon Reynolds number, especially in the region immediately downstream of the nose-cylinder junction. The measured shock shapes revealed no discernible effect of Reynolds number variations.

Book Synopsis Effects of Fineness and Closure Ratios on Boattail Drag of Circular-arc Afterbody Models with Jet Exhaust at Mach Numbers Up to 1.3 by : David E. Reubush
Download or read book Effects of Fineness and Closure Ratios on Boattail Drag of Circular-arc Afterbody Models with Jet Exhaust at Mach Numbers Up to 1.3 written by David E. Reubush and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of variations in fineness ratio and closure ratio on the boattail drag of circular-arc afterbody models were investigated at static conditions and at Mach numbers from 0.40 to 1.30. Jet total-pressure ratio was varied from jet off to about 6, depending on Mach number. Reynolds number based on model maximum diameter varied from about 1.2 million to 2.18 million. Angle of attack was varied from -4 deg to 8 deg. The results indicate that, at subsonic speeds before the drag rise and at a scheduled pressure ratio, the total drag (pressure plus calculated skin friction) is approximately equal for configurations with the same closure ratio. Also, for configurations with the same closure ratio, increasing fineness ratio results in an increased drag-rise Mach number; and for configurations with the same fineness ratio, increasing closure ratio results in an increased drag-rise Mach number.
Book Synopsis Effect of Fineness Ratio on Boattail Drag of Circular-arc Afterbodies Having Closure Ratios of 0.50 with Jet Exhaust at Mach Numbers Up to 1.30 by : David E. Reubush
Download or read book Effect of Fineness Ratio on Boattail Drag of Circular-arc Afterbodies Having Closure Ratios of 0.50 with Jet Exhaust at Mach Numbers Up to 1.30 written by David E. Reubush and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted to determine the effect of fineness ratio on the drag of circular-arc boattails at subsonic and low supersonic speeds. The boattails had closure ratios of 0.50 and incorporated convergent nozzles. The investigation was conducted statically and at Mach numbers from 0.40 to 1.30 at 0 deg angle of attack with jet total-pressure ratios varying from jet off to about 6, depending on Mach number. Low-fineness-ratio boattails had large separated-flow regions and the highest drag at all Mach numbers. Subsonic pressure-plus-friction drag levels were generally similar for boattails which did not have large separated regions. Drag-rise Mach number increased as boattail fineness ratio increased.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Proceedings contain the papers and oral discussions presented at the Symposium on AERODYNAMIC DRAG MECHANISMS of Bluff Bodies and Road Vehides held at the General Motors Research Laboratories in Warren, Michigan, on September 27 and 28, 1976. This international, invitational Symposium was the twentieth in an annual series, each one having been in a different technical discipline. The Symposia provide a forum for areas of science and technology that are of timely interest to the Research Laboratories as weIl as the technical community at large, and in which personnel of the Laboratories are actively involved. The Symposia furnish an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and current knowledge between participating research specialists from educational, industrial arid governmental institutions and serve to stimulate future research activity. The present world-wide energy situation makes it highly desirable to reduce the force required to move road vehicles through the atmosphere. A significant amount of the total energy consumed for transportation is expended in overcoming the aerodynamic resistance to motion of these vehicles. Reductions in this aerodynamic drag can therefore have a large impact on ground transportation energy requirements. Although aerodynamic development work on road vehides has been performed for many years, it has not been widely reported or accompanied by much basic research.
