Book excerpt: Toroidal groups are the connecting link between torus groups and any complex Lie groups. Many properties of complex Lie groups such as the pseudoconvexity and cohomology are determined by their maximal toroidal subgroups. Quasi-Abelian varieties are meromorphically separable toroidal groups. They are the natural generalisation of the Abelian varieties. Nevertheless, their behavior can be completely different as the wild groups show.
Book Synopsis Lectures on Algebraic Geometry I by : Günter Harder
Download or read book Lectures on Algebraic Geometry I written by Günter Harder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-15 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book and the following second volume is an introduction into modern algebraic geometry. In the first volume the methods of homological algebra, theory of sheaves, and sheaf cohomology are developed. These methods are indispensable for modern algebraic geometry, but they are also fundamental for other branches of mathematics and of great interest in their own. In the last chapter of volume I these concepts are applied to the theory of compact Riemann surfaces. In this chapter the author makes clear how influential the ideas of Abel, Riemann and Jacobi were and that many of the modern methods have been anticipated by them. For this second edition the text was completely revised and corrected. The author also added a short section on moduli of elliptic curves with N-level structures. This new paragraph anticipates some of the techniques of volume II.
Book Synopsis Hodge Theory (MN-49) by : Eduardo Cattani
Download or read book Hodge Theory (MN-49) written by Eduardo Cattani and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-21 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive and up-to-date introduction to Hodge theory—one of the central and most vibrant areas of contemporary mathematics—from leading specialists on the subject. The topics range from the basic topology of algebraic varieties to the study of variations of mixed Hodge structure and the Hodge theory of maps. Of particular interest is the study of algebraic cycles, including the Hodge and Bloch-Beilinson Conjectures. Based on lectures delivered at the 2010 Summer School on Hodge Theory at the ICTP in Trieste, Italy, the book is intended for a broad group of students and researchers. The exposition is as accessible as possible and doesn't require a deep background. At the same time, the book presents some topics at the forefront of current research. The book is divided between introductory and advanced lectures. The introductory lectures address Kähler manifolds, variations of Hodge structure, mixed Hodge structures, the Hodge theory of maps, period domains and period mappings, algebraic cycles (up to and including the Bloch-Beilinson conjecture) and Chow groups, sheaf cohomology, and a new treatment of Grothendieck’s algebraic de Rham theorem. The advanced lectures address a Hodge-theoretic perspective on Shimura varieties, the spread philosophy in the study of algebraic cycles, absolute Hodge classes (including a new, self-contained proof of Deligne’s theorem on absolute Hodge cycles), and variation of mixed Hodge structures. The contributors include Patrick Brosnan, James Carlson, Eduardo Cattani, François Charles, Mark Andrea de Cataldo, Fouad El Zein, Mark L. Green, Phillip A. Griffiths, Matt Kerr, Lê Dũng Tráng, Luca Migliorini, Jacob P. Murre, Christian Schnell, and Loring W. Tu.

Book Synopsis L2 Approaches in Several Complex Variables by : Takeo Ohsawa
Download or read book L2 Approaches in Several Complex Variables written by Takeo Ohsawa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-28 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents the current status of a rapidly developing part of several complex variables, motivated by the applicability of effective results to algebraic geometry and differential geometry. Special emphasis is put on the new precise results on the L2 extension of holomorphic functions in the past 5 years. In Chapter 1, the classical questions of several complex variables motivating the development of this field are reviewed after necessary preparations from the basic notions of those variables and of complex manifolds such as holomorphic functions, pseudoconvexity, differential forms, and cohomology. In Chapter 2, the L2 method of solving the d-bar equation is presented emphasizing its differential geometric aspect. In Chapter 3, a refinement of the Oka–Cartan theory is given by this method. The L2 extension theorem with an optimal constant is included, obtained recently by Z. Błocki and separately by Q.-A. Guan and X.-Y. Zhou. In Chapter 4, various results on the Bergman kernel are presented, including recent works of Maitani–Yamaguchi, Berndtsson, Guan–Zhou, and Berndtsson–Lempert. Most of these results are obtained by the L2 method. In the last chapter, rather specific results are discussed on the existence and classification of certain holomorphic foliations and Levi flat hypersurfaces as their stables sets. These are also applications of the L2 method obtained during the past 15 years.

Book Synopsis Complex Analysis and Algebraic Geometry by : Kunihiko Kodaira
Download or read book Complex Analysis and Algebraic Geometry written by Kunihiko Kodaira and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1977 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this volume cover some developments in complex analysis and algebraic geometry. The book is divided into three parts. Part I includes topics in the theory of algebraic surfaces and analytic surface. Part II covers topics in moduli and classification problems, as well as structure theory of certain complex manifolds. Part III is devoted to various topics in algebraic geometry analysis and arithmetic. A survey article by Ueno serves as an introduction to the general background of the subject matter of the volume. The volume was written for Kunihiko Kodaira on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, by his friends and students. Professor Kodaira was one of the world's leading mathematicians in algebraic geometry and complex manifold theory: and the contributions reflect those concerns.

Book Synopsis Lectures on Algebraic Geometry II by : Günter Harder
Download or read book Lectures on Algebraic Geometry II written by Günter Harder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-21 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume introduces the concept of shemes, reviews some commutative algebra and introduces projective schemes. The finiteness theorem for coherent sheaves is proved, here again the techniques of homological algebra and sheaf cohomology are needed. In the last two chapters, projective curves over an arbitrary ground field are discussed, the theory of Jacobians is developed, and the existence of the Picard scheme is proved. Finally, the author gives some outlook into further developments- for instance étale cohomology- and states some fundamental theorems.

Book Synopsis Foundations of Modern Analysis by : J. Dieudonne
Download or read book Foundations of Modern Analysis written by J. Dieudonne and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this text, the whole structure of analysis is built up from the foundations. The only things assumed at the outset are the rules of logic and the usual properties of the natural numbers, and with these two exceptions all the proofs in the text rest on the axioms and theorems proved earlier. Nevertheless this treatise (including the first volume) is not suitable for students who have not yet covered the first two years of an undergraduate honours course in mathematics. A striking characteristic of the elementary parts of analysis is the small amount of algebra required. Effectively all that is needed is some elementary linear algebra (which is included in an appendix at the end of the first volume, for the reader’s convenience). However, the role played by algebra increases in the subsequent volumes, and we shall finally leave the reader at the point where this role becomes preponderant, notably with the appearance of advanced commutative algebra and homological algebra. As reference books in algebra we have taken R. Godement’s “Abstract Algebra,” and S. A. Lang’s “Algebra” which we shall possibly augment in certain directions by means of appendices. As with the first volume, I have benefited greatly during the preparation of this work from access to numerous unpublished manuscripts of N. Bourbaki and his collaborators. To them alone is due any originality in the presentation of certain topics.
