Book Synopsis Introduction à l'écotoxicologie : Fondements et applications by : RAMADE François
Download or read book Introduction à l'écotoxicologie : Fondements et applications written by RAMADE François and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2007-03-15 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Birth of Scientific Ecology by : Patrick Matagne
Download or read book Birth of Scientific Ecology written by Patrick Matagne and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-04-02 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a biography of the Danish botanist Eugen Warming. As the author of a treatise on ecology that brought him international recognition, he was able to inspire the first generation of 20th-century European and American ecologists. His innovative approach to nature and his Arctic and tropical missions heralded the birth of a new science and an ecological awareness. As a professor at several Scandinavian universities during a period of intense debate and controversy over evolutionary theories, Eugen Warming vigorously asserted his convictions. Birth of Scientific Ecology presents the image of a man of knowledge and power, recognized by his contemporaries as a founder of ecology and a player in the ecological project of the Kingdom of Denmark at a time when the empires were clashing.
This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique dictionary and introduction to Global Environmental Governance (GEG), written and compiled by two veterans of the international stage, provides a compilation of over 5000 terms, organizations and acronyms, drawn from hundreds of official sources. An introductory essay frames the major issues in GEG and outlines the pitfalls of talking past one another when discussing the most critical of issues facing the planet. It challenges those who are concerned with the management of our planet and its inhabitants to understand and accept a vocabulary common to the often-opposing objectives sought in the many GEG instruments.

Book Synopsis Environment in Key Words by : Isaac Paenson
Download or read book Environment in Key Words written by Isaac Paenson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-28 with total page 978 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental problems ignore international boundaries. Toxic wastes travel by water and air, sometimes displacing the effects of an environmental disaster entirely outside of its country of origin. It is now understood that to overcome the problems that face us international co-operation is required. This important work is designed to assist in that process, by helping to break down the language barriers that stand between countries. The manual, written in parallel English, German, French and Russian texts, provides the basic tools of communication in the specialized fields of environmental sciences between speakers of these languages. Each chapter has been revised in each separate language by specialists in the field to guarantee the authenticity of the information presented. The author is unique in his approach, presenting the key-words in context, as opposed to simple glossary entries, allowing the reader to fully understand the complex relations between the word and the concepts involved. A comprehensive index written in all four languages guides the reader through the text, providing references to the words as they are used in different disciplines.
Book Synopsis The Coming Authoritarian Ecology by : Fabrice Flipo
Download or read book The Coming Authoritarian Ecology written by Fabrice Flipo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-05-24 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines ecological issues such as climate change and biodiversity, articulating local and global scales, and short and long term perspectives, questioning what "development" and "progress" are. The goal is to show how diverging points of view are conflictingly articulated to one another, in a political ideology perspective. This perspective, which is close to the main actor's point of view, allows displacement of the usual analysis, and offers a new synthesis.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Ecocriticism and Cultural Ecology by : Hubert Zapf
Download or read book Handbook of Ecocriticism and Cultural Ecology written by Hubert Zapf and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-05-10 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecocriticism has emerged as one of the most fascinating and rapidly growing fields of recent literary and cultural studies. From its regional origins in late-twentieth-century Anglo-American academia, it has become a worldwide phenomenon, which involves a decidedly transdisciplinary and transnational paradigm that promises to return a new sense of relevance to research and teaching in the humanities. A distinctive feature of the present handbook in comparison with other survey volumes is the combination of ecocriticism with cultural ecology, reflecting an emphasis on the cultural transformation of ecological processes and on the crucial role of literature, art, and other forms of cultural creativity for the evolution of societies towards sustainable futures. In state-of-the-art contributions by leading international scholars in the field, this handbook maps some of the most important developments in contemporary ecocritical thought. It introduces key theoretical concepts, issues, and directions of ecocriticism and cultural ecology and demonstrates their relevance for the analysis of texts and other cultural phenomena.

Book excerpt: This volume critically exposes problems in present language contact analysis and uses empirical findings to provide answers to the following questions. What can we learn from the study of language contact for our knowledge of languages, their dynamics and their functions (systemic elaborations, language practices, semiotic developments)? How should linguistic theory incorporate the empirical findings of language contact studies, and how could these alter underlying postulates of existing models (choice of analysis and epistemic framework)? Which role has language contact been playing in the history of linguistic research and academic life? And how has this idea influenced individual researchers and their approaches?
