External Relations Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1983-09-01 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper highlights information available to the IMF from a number of sources, including that provided in the course of consultation visits to member countries, and it has been prepared in close collaboration with national authorities. Measures intensifying members’ trade restrictions are subject to similar reporting provisions when a member has been granted an arrangement for the use of the IMF’s resources. The report centers on exchange arrangements and exchange restrictions, but it is also more comprehensive in that it presents other external economic policy measures and intergovernmental arrangements that may have balance of payments implications. As in previous reports, questions of definition and jurisdiction have not been raised; the description in the report of a restrictive practice by a member does not imply that it is or is not being maintained consistently with the IMF’s Articles, or that, if subject to Article VIII, it has or has not been approved by the IMF.

Download or read book World Development Report, 1985 written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1985 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report focuses on the contribution that international capital makes to economic development. While the report pays close attention to the events of the recent past, it also places the use of foreign capital in a broader and longer-term perspective. Using such a perspective, the report shows how countries at different stages of development have used external finance productively; how the institutional and policy environment affects the volume and composition of financial flows to developing countries; and how the international community has dealt with financial crises. This report concludes that the developing countries will have a continuing need for external finance. It demonstrates that many of the policies required to attract external finance and promote economic growth are either being implemented or planned already.

Download or read book World Development Report 1983 written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1983 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is the sixth in an annual series assessing development issues. It reviews recent trends in the international economy and their implications for the developing countries with a special focus on the management and institutional aspects of development. The early recovery in the world economy foreseen in last year's World Development Report did not materialize. The recession has lasted longer than expected and has set back global development more decisively than at any time since the Great Depression. The indications of an upturn are now firmer, but the international financial system remains severely strained and protectionism continues to be an ominous threat. This report reviews how alternative policies may affect the future prospects for recovery. It concludes that the present financial crisis is manageable, provided concerted efforts are made both nationally and internationally. It is essential for the industrial countries to maintain the momentum of their recovery, to promote freer trade, and to ensure growth in capital flows. Equally important, developing countries must for their part continue their efforts to adjust their economies to the new external circumstances and thereby regain the confidence of their creditors.
