This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of the work regarded as a modern classic in the field of international law corresponds to the third French edition in which the author updates his attempt "to increase the authority of international law by bringing back into it the values upon which it was founded." While this edition remains faithful to the ideas expounded in earlier versions, the author included new currents of thought in judicial practice and doctrine. These relate chiefly to the development of international organization, to the progress of codification, and to the decisions of the International Court of Justice. Originally published in 1968. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

This book was released on 2000-10-17 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive collection of legal materials relevant to the study of Private International Law. Its chief emphasis is to provide a compact source of materials for students and lecturers for whom these materials may otherwise be quite difficult to obtain. The choice of materials is very much based on the standard Conflict of Laws syllabus. The coverage extends to general concepts in private international law, family, succession, property law, jurisdiction and civil litigation, tort, contract, commercial law, and enforcement and recognition of foreign judgments. However, there is also some focus on less common subject areas such as international testacy, power of UK courts to assist in obtaining evidence for international proceedings, international arbitration, the Convention on the law applicable to trusts and on their recognition. The legal practitioner needing swift and easy access to a bulky area of law such as Private International Law should also find the book useful. This book is designed to be used in conjunction with any textbook on Private International Law at undergraduate, postgraduate or professional level

Book Synopsis International Legal Theory by : Jeffrey L. Dunoff
Download or read book International Legal Theory written by Jeffrey L. Dunoff and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decades international affairs have been increasingly legalized. International law has dramatically expanded into new fields and taken on new challenges. Despite this development, there has been little in-depth scholarship on what impact these changes have had on the field of international legal theory, how it is taught, and where it is going. This volume investigates the major developments in the field and explores the core assumptions and concepts, analytical tools, and key challenges associated with different approaches. An outstanding team of legal academics provides an accessible overview of competing theoretical movements, and a more in-depth understanding of the strengths, preoccupations, insights, and limits of those schools of thought. The contributions provide an authoritative account of current thinking about the theoretical foundations of contemporary international law and will serve as an indispensable resource for students, scholars, and practitioners.

Book Synopsis The Dynamics of International Law by : Paul F. Diehl
Download or read book The Dynamics of International Law written by Paul F. Diehl and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-01-14 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul F. Diehl and Charlotte Ku's new framework for international law divides it into operating and normative systems. The authors provide a theory of how these two systems interact, which explains how changes in one system precipitate changes and create capacity in the other. A punctuated equilibrium theory of system evolution, drawn from studies of biology and public policy studies, provides the basis for delineating the conditions for change and helps explain a pattern of international legal change that is often infrequent and sub-optimal, but still influential.
Book Synopsis Customary International Humanitarian Law by : Jean-Marie Henckaerts
Download or read book Customary International Humanitarian Law written by Jean-Marie Henckaerts and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-03-03 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Customary International Humanitarian Law, Volume I: Rules is a comprehensive analysis of the customary rules of international humanitarian law applicable in international and non-international armed conflicts. In the absence of ratifications of important treaties in this area, this is clearly a publication of major importance, carried out at the express request of the international community. In so doing, this study identifies the common core of international humanitarian law binding on all parties to all armed conflicts. Comment Don:RWI.

Book Synopsis International Law and Corporate Actors in Deep Seabed Mining by : Joanna Dingwall
Download or read book International Law and Corporate Actors in Deep Seabed Mining written by Joanna Dingwall and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The deep seabed beyond national jurisdiction (known as the Area) comprises almost three-quarters of the entire surface area of the oceans, and is home to an array of prized commodities including valuable metals and rare earth elements. In recent years, there has been a marked growth in deep seabed investment by private corporate actors, and an increasing impetus towards exploitation. This book addresses the unresolved legal challenges which this increasing corporate activity will raise over the coming years, including in relation to matters of common management, benefit-sharing, marine environmental protection, and investment protection. Acting under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the International Seabed Authority is responsible for regulating the Area for the benefit of humanity and granting mining contracts. A product of its history, the UNCLOS deep seabed regime is an unlikely hybrid of capitalist and communist values, embracing the role of private actors while enshrining principles of resource distribution. As technological advances begin to outstrip legal developments, this book assesses the tension between corporate commercial activity in the Area and the achievement of the common heritage.
