Download or read book Nostratic written by Joseph C. Salmons and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Nostratic" hypothesis -- positing a common linguistic ancestor for a wide range of language families including Indo-European, Uralic, and Afro-Asiatic -- has produced one of the most enduring and often intense controversies in linguistics. Overwhelmingly, though, both supporters of the hypothesis and those who reject it have not dealt directly with one another's arguments. This volume brings together selected representatives of both sides, as well as a number of agnostic historical linguists, with the aim of examining the evidence for this particular hypothesis in the context of distant genetic relationships generally. The volume contains discussion of variants of the Nostratic hypothesis (A. Bomhard; J. Greenberg; A. Manaster-Ramer, K. Baertsch, K. Adams, & P. Michalove), the mathematics of chance in determining the relationships posited for Nostratic (R. Oswa< D. Ringe), and the evidence from particular branches posited in Nostratic (L. Campbell; C. Hodge; A. Vovin), with responses and additional discussion by E. Hamp, B. Vine, W. Baxter and B. Comrie.
Book Synopsis The Incarnation by : Stephen T. Davis
Download or read book The Incarnation written by Stephen T. Davis and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2004 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This interdisciplinary study follows an international and ecumenical meeting of twenty-four scholars held in New York at Easter 2000: the Incarnation Summit. After an opening chapter, which summarizes and evaluates twelve major questions concerning the Incarnation, five chapters are dedicated to the biblical roots of this central Christian doctrine. A patristic and medieval section corrects misinterpretations and retrieves for today the significance of the Council of Chalcedon (AD 451) and its aftermath, as well as clarifying Aquinas' enduring metaphysical interpretation of the Incarnation. The volume then moves to theological and philosophical debates: three scholars take up such systematic issues as belief in the Incarnation, the self-emptying that it involves, and its compatibility with divine timelessness. The remaining four essays consider the place of the doctrine of the Incarnation in literature, ethics, art, and preaching. There is a fruitful dialogue between experts in a wide range of areas and the international reputation of the participants reflects and guarantees the high quality of this joint work. The result is a well researched, skilfully argued, and, at times, provocative volume on the central Christian belief: the Incarnation of the Son of God.

Book Synopsis Interdisciplinarity by : Julie Thompson Klein
Download or read book Interdisciplinarity written by Julie Thompson Klein and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 1990 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, Julie Klein provides the first comprehensive study of the modern concept of interdisciplinarity, supplementing her discussion with the most complete bibliography yet compiled on the subject. In this volume, Julie Klein provides the first comprehensive study of the modern concept of interdisciplinarity, supplementing her discussion with the most complete bibliography yet compiled on the subject. Spanning the social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, and professions, her study is a synthesis of existing scholarship on interdisciplinary research, education and health care. Klein argues that any interdisciplinary activity embodies a complex network of historical, social, psychological, political, economic, philosophical, and intellectual factors. Whether the context is a short-ranged instrumentality or a long-range reconceptualization of the way we know and learn, the concept of interdisciplinarity is an important means of solving problems and answering questions that cannot be satisfactorily addressed using singular methods or approaches.
Book Synopsis Interdisciplinary Research in Technology and Management by : Satyajit Chakrabarti
Download or read book Interdisciplinary Research in Technology and Management written by Satyajit Chakrabarti and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-09-14 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conference on ‘Interdisciplinary Research in Technology and Management” was a bold experiment in deviating from the traditional approach of conferences which focus on a specific topic or theme. By attempting to bring diverse inter-related topics on a common platform, the conference has sought to answer a long felt need and give a fillip to interdisciplinary research not only within the technology domain but across domains in the management field as well. The spectrum of topics covered in the research papers is too wide to be singled out for specific mention but it is noteworthy that these papers addressed many important and relevant concerns of the day.
