Download or read book Global Food Security and Development Aid written by Ivica Petrikova and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the global level, international actors have repeatedly expressed their desire to end hunger and food insecurity. However, food insecurity has persisted. More analysis is hence needed on the link between continuously high levels of global food insecurity and the ever increasing flow of development aid. Global Food Security and Development Aid investigates the impact that development aid has had on food security in developing countries and includes international case studies on Peru, Ethiopia, India and Vietnam. It examines the effect of development aid in general and the impact of aid divided into different categories based on donor, mechanism and sector to which it is provided. In each examined relationship between aid and food security, particular attention is paid to the potentially intervening role played by the quality of national and/or local governance. The book makes policy recommendations, most importantly that donors should take greater care in considering which types of aid are suitable to which specific countries, localities, and development goals, and account for expected developments in the complex relationship between aid, food security, and governance. This book will be of considerable interest to students, researchers and policy-makers in the areas of development aid and food security.

Download or read book Foreign Aid: New Perspectives written by K. L. Gupta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreign aid has been an area of active scholarly investigation since the end of the Second World War, but particularly since the early 1950s when a large number of the erstwhile colonies became independent. Few areas of public policy involving the developed and developing countries have aroused more passion and ideological debate than foreign aid. In spite of the massive amount of research in the field, there is still not enough work in two areas: the first involves the mechanisms through which aid influences the economies of the donor and the recipient countries; and the second, country-specific assessments of the effectiveness of foreign aid. Foreign Aid: New Perspectives is aimed at making a contribution in these two areas. The contents of this volume are divided into four parts. Part I deals with some theoretical aspects of foreign aid, while the second part analyzes some general policy aspects. Part III turns to the donor experience and includes one paper on the Danish experience. The last part considers the recipient experience and consists of five case studies.

Book Synopsis Global Food Security by : Thomas Melito
Download or read book Global Food Security written by Thomas Melito and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global hunger continues to worsen despite world leaders¿ 1996 pledge ¿ reaffirmed in 2000 and 2009 ¿ to halve hunger by 2015. To reverse this trend, in 2009 major donor countries pledged $22 billion in a 3-year commitment to agriculture and food security in developing countries, of which $3.5 billion is the U.S. share. Through analysis of agency documents, interviews with agency officials and their development partners, and fieldwork in five recipient countries, this report examined: (1) the types and funding of food security programs and activities of relevant U.S. gov¿t. agencies; and (2) progress in developing an integrated U.S. governmentwide strategy to address global food insecurity as well as potential vulnerabilities of that strategy. Book Synopsis Governance and Food Security in an Age of Globalization by : Robert L. Paarlberg

This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Commissioned by the International Food Policy Research Institute, this discussion paper asks who is responsible for assuring food security in an age of globalization? Paarlberg (political science, Wellesley College) argues that significant hunger persists in some regions largely because of governance deficits and failures at the national, rather than the global, level. He then suggests options for improving the performance of national governments in countries increasingly affected by hunger (particularly those in Africa). Annotation c. Book Synopsis The Right to Food by : Francis Adams
Download or read book The Right to Food written by Francis Adams and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-09 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the global campaign to end hunger and malnutrition. Focus is placed on the work of the United Nations which has led international efforts to improve food security in the world’s poorest countries. The book first reviews the long-term project to establish access to safe, sufficient, and nutritious food as a universally recognized human right. This is followed by separate chapters that examine the nature and central causes of food insecurity in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. These chapters also review the contemporary work of three United Nations agencies – the World Food Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization, and International Fund for Agricultural Development – in providing both food aid and food assistance to each region of the developing world. This includes the provision of emergency food aid in response to natural disaster and civil conflict, as well as longer-term food assistance to promote agricultural productivity, advance rural development, and preserve natural environments. The concluding chapter considers ways to strengthen food aid and assistance in the years to come, with many of the recommendations advanced reflecting lessons learned from the actual experience of food aid and assistance described in this book.
