Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of EUROCRYPT 85, held in Paris in 1984, April 9-11, at the University of Paris, Sorbonne. EIJROCRYPT is now an annual international European meeting in cryptology, intended primarily for the international of researchers in this area. EUROCRYPT 84 was community following previous meetings held at Burg Feuerstein in 1982 and at IJdine in 1983. In fact EUROCRYPT 84 was thc first such meeting being organized under IXCR (International Association of Cryptology Research). Other sponsors were the well-known French association on cybernetics research AFCET, the LITP (Laborstoire d' Informntique thcorique called et de Programmation), which is a laboratory of computer science associated with CNRS, and the department of mathematics and computer science at the Ilniversity RenE Descartcs, Sorbonne. EUROCRYPT 83 was very successful, with about 180 participants from a great variety of foreign countries and 50 papers addressing all aspects of cryptology, close to applied as well as theoretical. It also had a special feature, i.e. a special session on smart cards particularly welcome at the time, since France was then carrying on an ambitious program on smart cards. EUROCRYPT 84 was a great experience. We like to thank all the sponsors and all the authors for their submission of papers. Pakin, Decemben 74ti4. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space: Mankind's Fourth Environment focuses on the emerging trends in astronomy, taking into consideration space transportation and exploration. Along with this topic are various technological developments that are widely used and considered with space, referred to in this book as humankind's ""fourth environment"", as another potential destination of man. Divided into four parts, the book points at different challenges and problems related to the consideration of space as another environment for humankind, which is observed in the manned space flight programs of the United States and Russia. The book gives emphasis on the improvement of space technology, particularly the use of satellites in communication, emphasizing the use of Intelsat 5 and European L-sat in broadcast system. Studies on active and passive microwave sensors are discussed and a discussion on the medical results of a manned space flight is also presented. The book will surely boost the interest of astronomers and those interested in space technology and exploration.

Book excerpt: Updates from unremarked dates material used in the Institute's vacation schools at Surrey University, which over the past 15 years have become the de-facto industry standard in satellite communications. The approach concentrates on the design and planning of systems, includes little theory, and just quotes equations rather than deriving them. New material has been added on the history and background of the field; the business aspects of satellite communications; and on new applications in mobile and personal communication systems, multimedia systems, military business and small satellites, navigation, and positioning. Graduate, undergraduate, and practicing engineers should benefit from the treatment. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Synopsis Digital Phase Modulation by : John B. Anderson
Download or read book Digital Phase Modulation written by John B. Anderson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last ten years have seen a great flowering of the theory of digital data modulation. This book is a treatise on digital modulation theory, with an emphasis on these more recent innovations. It has its origins in a collabor ation among the authors that began in 1977. At that time it seemed odd to us that the subjects of error-correcting codes and data modulation were so separated; it seemed also that not enough understanding underlay the mostly ad hoc approaches to data transmission. A great many others were intrigued, too, and the result was a large body of new work that makes up most of this book. Now the older disciplines of detection theory and coding theory have been generalized and applied to the point where it is hard to tell where these end and the theories of signal design and modulation begin. Despite our emphasis on the events of the last ten years, we have included all the traditional topics of digital phase modulation. Signal space concepts are developed, as are simple phase-shift-keyed and pulse-shaped modulations; receiver structures are discussed, from the simple linear receiver to the Viterbi algorithm; the effects of channel filtering and of hardlimiting are described. The volume thus serves well as a pedagogical book for research engineers in industry and second-year graduate students in communications engineering. The production of a manageable book required that many topics be left out.
