Book excerpt: This volume presents the proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Differential Equations and Mathematical Physics. It contains 29 research and survey papers contributed by conference participants. The conference provided researchers a forum to present and discuss their recent results in a broad range of areas encompassing the theory of differential equations and their applications in mathematical physics. Papers in this volume represent some of the most interesting results and the major areas of research that were covered, including spectral theory with applications to non-relativistic and relativistic quantum mechanics, including time-dependent and random potential, resonances, many body systems, pseudodifferential operators and quantum dynamics, inverse spectral and scattering problems, the theory of linear and nonlinear partial differential equations with applications in fluid dynamics, conservation laws and numerical simulations, as well as equilibrium and nonequilibrium statistical mechanics. The volume is intended for graduate students and researchers interested in mathematical physics.
Book Synopsis Numerical Approximation of Partial Differential Equations by : E.L. Ortiz
Download or read book Numerical Approximation of Partial Differential Equations written by E.L. Ortiz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1987-02-01 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This selection of papers is concerned with problems arising in the numerical solution of differential equations, with an emphasis on partial differential equations. There is a balance between theoretical studies of approximation processes, the analysis of specific numerical techniques and the discussion of their application to concrete problems relevant to engineering and science. Special consideration has been given to innovative numerical techniques and to the treatment of three-dimensional and singular problems. These topics are discussed in several of the invited papers. The contributed papers are divided into five parts: techniques of approximation theory which are basic to the numerical treatment of differential equations; numerical techniques based on discrete processes; innovative methods based on polynomial and rational approximation; variational inequalities, conformal transformation and asymptotic techniques; and applications of differential equations to problems in science and engineering.

Download or read book Trends and Applications in Constructive Approximation written by Marcel G. de Bruin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-05-19 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last years, constructive approximation has reached out to enc- pass the computational and approximation-theoretical aspects of di?erent ?elds in applied mathematics, including multivariate approximation methods, qua- interpolation, and multivariate approximation by (orthogonal) polynomials, as well as modern mathematical developments in neuro fuzzy approximation, R- networks, industrial and engineering applications. Following the tradition of our internationalBommerholz conferencesin 1995, 1998, and 2001 we regard this 4th IBoMAT meeting as an important possibility for specialists in the ?eld of applied mathematics to communicateabout new ideas with colleaguesfrom 15 di?erent countries all over Europe and as far awayas New Zealand and the U.S.A. The conference in Witten Bommerholz was, as always, held in a very friendly and congenial atmosphere. The IBoMAT-series editor Detlef H. Mache (Bochum) would like to congr- ulate Marcel de Bruin (Delft) and Joz ́ sef Szabados (Budapest) for an excellent editing job of this 4th volume about Trends and Applications in constructive - proximation. After the previous three published books in Akademie Verlag (1995) and Birkh ̈ auser Verlag (1999 and 2003) we were pleased with the high quality of the contributions which could be solicited for the book. They are refereed and we should mention our gratitude to the referees and their reports.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Approximation Methods for Differential and Integral Equations by : Hans-Jürgen Reinhardt
Download or read book Analysis of Approximation Methods for Differential and Integral Equations written by Hans-Jürgen Reinhardt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is primarily based on the research done by the Numerical Analysis Group at the Goethe-Universitat in Frankfurt/Main, and on material presented in several graduate courses by the author between 1977 and 1981. It is hoped that the text will be useful for graduate students and for scientists interested in studying a fundamental theoretical analysis of numerical methods along with its application to the most diverse classes of differential and integral equations. The text treats numerous methods for approximating solutions of three classes of problems: (elliptic) boundary-value problems, (hyperbolic and parabolic) initial value problems in partial differential equations, and integral equations of the second kind. The aim is to develop a unifying convergence theory, and thereby prove the convergence of, as well as provide error estimates for, the approximations generated by specific numerical methods. The schemes for numerically solving boundary-value problems are additionally divided into the two categories of finite difference methods and of projection methods for approximating their variational formulations.
Book Synopsis Semi-Lagrangian Approximation Schemes for Linear and Hamilton-Jacobi Equations by : Maurizio Falcone
Download or read book Semi-Lagrangian Approximation Schemes for Linear and Hamilton-Jacobi Equations written by Maurizio Falcone and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This largely self-contained book provides a unified framework of semi-Lagrangian strategy for the approximation of hyperbolic PDEs, with a special focus on Hamilton-Jacobi equations. The authors provide a rigorous discussion of the theory of viscosity solutions and the concepts underlying the construction and analysis of difference schemes; they then proceed to high-order semi-Lagrangian schemes and their applications to problems in fluid dynamics, front propagation, optimal control, and image processing. The developments covered in the text and the references come from a wide range of literature.
