Book excerpt: Radical American artist, educator and once-devout Catholic nun, Sister Mary Corita Kent¿s provocative serigraphy has entranced audiences for over four decades. Originally completed in 1968, Kent¿s Signal Code Alphabet, encompasses a series of 26 kaleidoscopic serigraphs integrating scripture, typography, image, icon, and the maritime flags of the International Code of Signals. As 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of both the series¿ completion, and the centennial of Kent¿s birth, this celebratory monograph reproduces Kent¿s Signal Code Alphabet for the very first time in fine art monograph format.

Download or read book Bulk Collection of Signals Intelligence written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2015-03-24 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bulk Collection of Signals Intelligence: Technical Options study is a result of an activity called for in Presidential Policy Directive 28 (PPD-28), issued by President Obama in January 2014, to evaluate U.S. signals intelligence practices. The directive instructed the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to produce a report within one year "assessing the feasibility of creating software that would allow the intelligence community more easily to conduct targeted information acquisition rather than bulk collection." ODNI asked the National Research Council (NRC) -- the operating arm of the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering -- to conduct a study, which began in June 2014, to assist in preparing a response to the President. Over the ensuing months, a committee of experts appointed by the Research Council produced the report.

Book Synopsis Military Communications by : Christopher H. Sterling
Download or read book Military Communications written by Christopher H. Sterling and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2007-10-16 with total page 607 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An alphabetically organized encyclopedia that provides both a history of military communications and an assessment of current methods and applications. Military Communications: From Ancient Times to the 21st Century is the first comprehensive reference work on the applications of communications technology to military tactics and strategy—a field that is just now coming into its own as a focus of historical study. Ranging from ancient times to the war in Iraq, it offers over 300 alphabetically organized entries covering many methods and modes of transmitting communication through the centuries, as well as key personalities, organizations, strategic applications, and more. Military Communications includes examples from armed forces around the world, with a focus on the United States, where many of the most dramatic advances in communications technology and techniques were realized. A number of entries focus on specific battles where communications superiority helped turn the tide, including Tsushima (1905), Tannenberg and the Marne (both 1914), Jutland (1916), and Midway (1942). The book also addresses a range of related topics such as codebreaking, propaganda, and the development of civilian telecommunications.
Book Synopsis Lattice Coding for Signals and Networks by : Ram Zamir
Download or read book Lattice Coding for Signals and Networks written by Ram Zamir and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-08-07 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unifying information theory and digital communication through the language of lattice codes, this book provides a detailed overview for students, researchers and industry practitioners. It covers classical work by leading researchers in the field of lattice codes and complementary work on dithered quantization and infinite constellations, and then introduces the more recent results on 'algebraic binning' for side-information problems, and linear/lattice codes for networks. It shows how high dimensional lattice codes can close the gap to the optimal information theoretic solution, including the characterisation of error exponents. The solutions presented are based on lattice codes, and are therefore close to practical implementations, with many advanced setups and techniques, such as shaping, entropy-coding, side-information and multi-terminal systems. Moreover, some of the network setups shown demonstrate how lattice codes are potentially more efficient than traditional random-coding solutions, for instance when generalising the framework to Gaussian networks.
