Book excerpt: In view of the fundamental differences between national and international sources of law, citation rules found adequate for domestic legal research often are inappropriate when applied to international and foreign legal materials. The "International Citation and Research Guide" (The Greenbook) is a ground-breaking project tailored to the needs of an international readership by providing information useful for worldwide and highly diverse professionals. The ICRG set, conveniently organized into global regions, is a source of foundational and comprehensive citation standards for scholars working with all types of international and foreign materials. It presents each citation standard in the context of that country or organization's history and legal institutions. It is also a general resource of basic legal background on international organizations and countries that would otherwise be difficult to research. It can be used as a companion to The Bluebook, whose coverage of international sources is necessarily limited. Staff members researched legal as well as other existing governmental citations in order to create and/or interpret and implement citations. The examples reflect local or international citation practice for documents written in English, harmonizing them to provide a flexible global standard of legal citation. Each chapter also has an introduction to provide the country's background and political structure.--Publisher.

(2020). This title is a companion to The Bluebook (not a replacement) and applies Bluebook rules to a representative collection of common legal authorities. The citations included are based on Bluebook rules, and the abbreviations are those found in The Bluebook or derived from its guidelines. Besides updating both Bluebook and state court rule references, this edition has been updated to reflect Twenty-First Edition Bluebook revisions. The new edition has reduced its total page count--from 560 pages to 365 pages--in part by placing the citation information contained in T2 Foreign Jurisdictions in a free online database, and in part by having T6 abbreviations cover case names and institutional authors, as well as periodical titles. The various subsections of T13 from the twentieth edition are either contained in an expanded and slightly revised T6 or in the combined single T13 section "Institutional Names in Periodical Titles." Rule 18.8 was added to the twenty-first edition to provide citation guidance for photographs and illustrations.--Publisher.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An indispensable tool for librarians who do reference or collection management, this work is a pioneering offering of expertly selected print and electronic reference tools for East Asian Studies (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). Handbook for Asian Studies Specialists: A Guide to Research Materials and Collection Building Tools is the first work to cover reference works for the main Asian area languages of China, Japan, and Korea. Several leading Asian Studies librarians have contributed their many decades of experience to create a resource that gathers major reference titles—both print and online—that would be useful to today's Asian Studies librarian. Organized by language group, it offers useful information on the many subscription-based and open-source electronic tools relevant to Asian Studies. This book will serve as an essential resource for reference collections at academic libraries. Previously published bibliographies on materials deal with China or Japan or Korea, but none have coalesced information on all three countries into one work, or are written in English. And unlike the other resources available, this work provides the insight needed for librarians to make informed collection management decisions and reference selections.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the defining features, critical approaches, challenges and opportunities for public policy in the ‘Asian Century’. This is the first book to systematically analyse the key institutions and practices that comprise public policy, administration and governance to investigate how they are changing in the context of increasing Asian influence. Its authors argue that the Asian Century holds the potential to generate a paradigm shift equivalent to the impacts of neo-liberalism and the New Public Management of the late 20th century. Divided into three parts, this volume interrogates the theories underpinning contemporary public policy; explores case studies from different policy arenas across the Asian region; and imagines what a future of globalised public policy might look like. It examines the implementation measures necessary to support policy and administration in an era of transnational governance networks, tightly linked economic markets and progressively fluid cultural exchanges. This book provides the concepts and tools necessary to navigate these shifting sands successfully. It is essential reading for scholars of public policy, public management, international relations, and politics and social sciences, as well as for administrators and public servants.

The examination of international law and its application in Asia can reveal the shared history of the continent, but also its unique development in each Asian state:00Incorporating the work of numerous leading scholars, the Encyclopedia of Public International Law in Asia provides a detailed description of the practice and implementation of international law in various Asian states. The Encyclopedia covers the introduction of Western international law; the resulting shift from Asian international law and the development of international law; and the impact that all of this has had on Asian states.

As a result, international relations in Asia are evolving rapidly. In this fully updated and expanded volume, leading scholars from Asia, Europe, and North America offer the most current and definitive analysis available of Asia's regional relationships. They set developments in Asia in theoretical context, assess the role of leading external and regional powers, and consider the importance of subregional actors and linkages. Depending on the type of rice production system, farmers across Asia often contend with the same or similar weed species. This group of species is relatively small, but of great importance, and includes many of the "world's worst weeds." In this guide, we have tried to collect practical information about some of the most common weeds of rice in Asia. The guide contains information about the botany, ecology, herbicide resistance, and cultural control of these species in a short text that should be easy to use in the field. In addition, it includes pictures to aid in early and accurate species identification.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the legal culture of the Parsis, or Zoroastrians, an ethnoreligious community unusually invested in the colonial legal system of British India and Burma. Rather than trying to maintain collective autonomy and integrity by avoiding interaction with the state, the Parsis sank deep into the colonial legal system itself. From the late eighteenth century until India's independence in 1947, they became heavy users of colonial law, acting as lawyers, judges, litigants, lobbyists, and legislators. They de-Anglicized the law that governed them and enshrined in law their own distinctive models of the family and community by two routes: frequent intra-group litigation often managed by Parsi legal professionals in the areas of marriage, inheritance, religious trusts, and libel, and the creation of legislation that would become Parsi personal law. Other South Asian communities also turned to law, but none seem to have done so earlier or in more pronounced ways than the Parsis.
