Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning Creek provides a basic introduction to the language and culture of the Mvskoke-speaking peoples, Muskogee (Creek) and Seminole Indians. Written by linguistic anthropologist Pamela Innes and native speakers Linda Alexander and Bertha Tilkens, the text is accessible to general readers and students and is accompanied by two compact discs. The volume begins with an introduction to Creek history and language, and then each chapter introduces readers to a new grammatical feature, vocabulary set, and series of conversational sentences. Translation exercises from English to Mvskoke and Mvskoke to English reinforce new words and concepts. The chapters conclude with brief essays by Linda Alexander and Bertha Tilkens on Creek culture and history and suggestions for further reading. The two audio CDs present examples of ceremonial speech, songs, and storytelling and include pronunciations of Mvskoke language keyed to exercises and vocabulary lists in the book. The combination of recorded and written material gives students a chance to learn and practice Mvskoke as an oral and written language. Although Mvskoke speakers include the Muskogee (Creek) and Seminole Nations of Oklahoma, the Poarche Band of Creek Indians in Alabama, and some Florida Seminoles, the number of native speakers of Mvskoke has declined. Because the authors believe that language and culture are inextricably linked, they have combined their years of experience speaking and teaching Mvskoke to design an introductory textbook to help Creek speakers preserve their traditional language and way of life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its fifth edition, this seminal textbook for occupational therapy students and practitioners has retained the comprehensive detail of previous editions with significant updates, including the recovery approach informed by a social perspective. Emerging settings for practice are explored and many more service users have been involved as authors, writing commentaries on 14 chapters. All chapters are revised and there are also new chapters, such as mental health and wellbeing, professional accountability, intersectionality, green care and working with marginalized populations. Chapter 11 is written by two people who have received occupational therapy, examining different perspectives on the experience of using services. This edition is divided into clear sections, exploring theory and practice issues in detail. The first section covers the historical, theoretical and philosophical basis for occupational therapy in the promotion of mental health and wellbeing. The second section examines the occupational therapy process, followed by a third section on ensuring quality in contemporary practice. The fourth section offers insights into issues arising from the changing contexts for occupational therapy including an analysis of the implications for occupational therapy education. The fifth section has eight chapters on specific occupations that can be applied across the varied settings which are covered in the sixth and final section. Occupational Therapy and Mental Health is essential reading for students and practitioners across all areas of health and/or social care, in statutory, private or third (voluntary) sectors, and in institutional and community-based settings. Presents different theories and approaches Outlines the occupational therapy process Discusses the implications of a wide range of practice contexts Describes a broad range of techniques used by occupational therapists Provides many different perspectives through service user commentaries Coverage of trust as part of professional accountability, leadership, green care, ethical practice using a principled approach Additional and extended service user commentaries An editorial team selected and mentored by the retired editors, Jennifer Creek and Lesley Lougher

This book was released on 2002 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Snowpacks in the southwestern United States melt intermittently throughout the winter. At some mid-elevation locations, between 7,000 and 7,500 ft, snowpacks appear and disappear, depending on the distribution of storms during relatively dry winters. Some winter precipitation can occur as rain during warm storms and is not reflected in the snow course data. The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) maintains a system of measuring stations to index snow conditions and predict snowmelt runoff. The three Workman Creek watersheds in the Sierra Ancha Experimental Forest north of Globe were instrumented in late 1938 to study the hydrology of southwestern mixed conifer forests and to determine changes in streamflow and sedimentation resulting from manipulating the forest cover. The watersheds were deactivated in 1983, but they were re-instrumented in June 2000 after the Coon Creek wildfire to measure fire effects on forest hydrology and sediment dynamics. The Rocky Mountain Research Station would like to use NRCS data from the Middle Fork of Workman Creek to reinforce its hydrologic data acquisition and interpretation efforts. Snow water equivalent data can be used to characterize past winter runoff volumes and peak mean daily runoff. Significant regressions were developed between the data sets with coefficients of determination values ranging from 0.40 to 0.77. The relationships defined by these regressions will allow researchers and managers to ascertain the impacts of fire on snowmelt-related hydrologic processes and to estimate winter flows for the years when the installations were closed. They also provide an insight into the snowpackrunoff relationships for intermittent snowpacks that are common at intermediate elevations throughout Arizona.
