Viele kehrten nicht in ihre Heimatländer zurück, sondern blieben im Land, und ihre Kinder und Enkel wurden in Deutschland geboren und wuchsen hier auf. Dies hatte Auswirkungen auf alle Gesellschaftsbereiche, darunter auch der Bereich der gesundheitlichen Versorgung. Die Zusammensetzung der Patienten in den Krankenhäusern und Arztpraxen hat sich verändert. Mehr und mehr Menschen mit nicht-deutschem kulturellen Hintergrund werden dort behandelt und gepflegt.1 Dabei kann es zu Verständigungs- und Verständnisschwierigkeiten kommen, die von den Beschäftigten des Gesundheitswesens oft der anderen Kultur der Patienten zugeschrieben werden. Welche Kulturstandards und welche Konzepte von Krankheit, Gesundheit und medizinischer Versorgung den Erwartungen, Einstellungen und dem Verhalten der Patienten allerdings zugrunde liegen, darüber ist meist kein Wissen vorhanden. Interkulturelle Trainings im Gesundheitsbereich könnten hier Abhilfe schaffen und die Situation von Migranten nicht nur der ersten sondern auch der Folgegenerationen stark verbessern. Vereinzelt haben sich sogenannte Ethnomediziner, die aus Medizin, Psychologie oder Ethnologie kommen, des Problems angenommen und solche Trainings entwickelt. Im Folgenden soll zunächst ein theoretischer Überblick über den Zusammenhang von Kultur und Krankheit gegeben werden, dann wird allgemein erläutert, was unter interkulturellem Training zu verstehen ist, bevor spezielle Trainingskonzepte für den medizinischen Bereich erklärt werden. Abschließend werden in einem Ausblick mögliche Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung der Situation von Migranten im übergeordneten Kontext von Politik und Gesundheitswe
