Book Synopsis Transnational Spaces and Regional Localization. Social Networks, Border Regions and Local-Global Relations by : Angela Pilch Ortega
Download or read book Transnational Spaces and Regional Localization. Social Networks, Border Regions and Local-Global Relations written by Angela Pilch Ortega and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2012 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalization has encouraged worldwide mobility, intensified migration and supported growing interconnectedness through new technologies; it has therefore substantially contributed to the development of so-called transnational spaces. This volume focuses on transnational spaces which should not be understood as locations on a map or as sealed containers, but instead as relational social areas which are composed of various relationships. Transnationalization increases liberation and/or emancipation from place because social relations overcome physical space and local, regional and national boundaries. As a consequence, a reconfiguration of social, cultural, political and economic scopes of action occurs. This volume reveals that for people in general and for migration movements in particular, new borders have been established in many places all over the world. The biographies of global actors and migrants reference this alteration of space. Additionally this volume calls special attention to border regions and their social configurations. Borders appear as narratives which can have an enormous impact on social structures. This book further deals with different aspects and various tensions having to do with local and global change, interplay and interdependence. Globalization leads to development that often ignores regional needs, supports the continuation of post-colonial power and maintains hegemonic dominance.

Book Synopsis Handbook for Interpreters in Asylum Procedures by : UNHCR
Download or read book Handbook for Interpreters in Asylum Procedures written by UNHCR and published by Frank & Timme GmbH. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interpreters play a crucial, yet often underestimated role in asylum interviews. They mediate between the asylum-seeker and the interviewer, who would not be able to communicate without the help of the interpreter. As it is often not possible for applicants to provide written evidence to substantiate their claims, their oral accounts of what has happened to them are usually the sole basis for an official’s decision and ultimately a pivotal point in the applicant’s life. Given the significant consequences of such decisions during the asylum procedure, interpreters carry a great deal of responsibility both in terms of their professional behaviour and with regard to the quality of interpretation. This handbook responds to the need for qualified interpreters in asylum procedures by offering a theoretical insight into a variety of topics relevant to interpreters in the asylum context, as well as activities and exercises enabling experiential and interactive learning. It is aimed both at interpreters in asylum procedures who have no formal training and trained interpreters who wish to specialise in the field. In addition, the handbook is intended for facilitators and trainers to use in face-to-face training courses. The handbook is also relevant to asylum authorities and interviewers, providing them with insights into and guidance in working with interpreters.
Book Synopsis Interkulturelle Kompetenz in der Sozialen Arbeit by : Roman R
Download or read book Interkulturelle Kompetenz in der Sozialen Arbeit written by Roman R and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-10-24 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. [bzw.]
Book Synopsis Transnational Social Work and Social Welfare by : Beatrix Schwarzer
Download or read book Transnational Social Work and Social Welfare written by Beatrix Schwarzer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-08-05 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The underlying frame of social work is the nation state, and it is from within the state that welfare strategies and social policies are devised and implemented. However, post-colonialism, globalisation, migration and the associated implications for human rights, social justice and social welfare policies contest the idea of a clearly defined space for social work and present new challenges for researchers and practitioners. Transnational Social Work and Social Welfare argues for the increased importance of the transnational perspective in social work theory and practice. The book challenges the idea of the nation state as a given entity and argues that globalization and an increasing number of people crossing borders must have an impact on the theories and strategies of social work. The international contributors are critical of a restricted focus on a geographically defined space and the impact on work with clients. With cases covering China, France, India, UK, Germany, Malaysia, Israel, Turkey, the book highlights the challenges as well as the opportunities this new perspective can open up for theories and strategies in social work. It will be of interest to students, researchers and social workers interested in migration, social care, poverty and cultural competency in health and social care.
Book Synopsis Cultures in Dialogue by : Annemarie Profanter
Download or read book Cultures in Dialogue written by Annemarie Profanter and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. In an aim to promote an interdisciplinary and intercultural scientific dialogue young graduates of diverse disciplines have tackled the task of intensive investigation into «cultures in dialogue» as it relates to issues of international as well as regional relevance. In an attempt to motivate dialogue across language barriers all contributions provide abstracts in the three languages: German, Italian and English. The descriptive part of the collected edition provides an overview of diverse aspects of the phenomenon of a multicultural society in South Tyrol. The constructive aspect of the volume pursues the following goal: it creates moments of encounter, of intersubjective as well as interdisciplinary dialogue and lays the basis for a theoretical foundation of practical forms of dialogic problem analysis and problem solving.

Book Synopsis Social Work at the Level of International Comparison by : Cinur Ghaderi

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a theoretical and practical approach to international social work. It uses examples from Germany with a long tradition of social work and focuses on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which is in a pioneering phase in teaching social work while at the same time experiencing a highly explosive situation in global politics. Socio-political challenges such as violence, traumatization, (religious) fundamentalism, ethnicization, changing gender relations, flight and migration call for a professional examination of social work as a human rights profession in international comparison.
Download or read book Parts and Wholes written by Laila Prager and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2016 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This festschrift for Josephus D.M. Platenkamp brings some central concerns of anthropology into focus: social morphology, exchange, cosmology, history, and practical applications. Ranging across several disciplines and continents, but with a preference for Southeast Asia, the contributions look at a common approach that unites these diverse themes. In this view, the most constitutive relationships of society are based on exchange. Exchange and ritual articulate central values of a society, thus appearing as parts in relationship to a whole. These relationships encompass both human and non-human beings, the social and the cosmological domain. Thus, the study of these subject issues merges into a single project. Download or read book Interkulturelle Kompetenzen in der Sozialen Arbeit written by S. D. and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-09-04 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
