Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this classic work is to present a unified discussion of interindustry techniques and their empirical application. In the first section of the book the authors provide an introduction to interindustry theory, starting with the simplest input-output model and developing more complex systems by successive exstensions. The range of possible formulations is illustrated by eight models, each of which is presented in verbal and algebraic form and in numerical examples. Ultimately, the choice between input-output and linear-programming formulations is shown to depend on the nature of the problen and available data. Section Two discusses the main types of application for which analysis seems appropriate, illustrating each example with individual cases from the interindustry experience in various countires. Studies from the United States, Japan, Itlay.

This book was released on 2004-03-25 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wassily Leontief (1905–1999) was the founding father of input-output economics, for which he received the Nobel Prize in 1973. This book offers a collection of papers in memory of Leontief by his students and close colleagues. The first part, 'Reflections on Input-Output Economics', focuses upon Leontief as a person and scholar as well as his personal contributions to economics. It includes contributions by Nobel Laureate Paul A. Samuelson who shares his memories of a young Professor Leontief at Harvard and ends with the last joint interview with Wassily and his wife, to date previously unpublished. The second part, 'Perspectives of Input-Output Economics', includes theoretical and empirical research inspired by Leontief's work and offers a wide-ranging sample of the state of interindustry economics, a field Leontief founded. This is a strong collection likely to appeal to a wide range of professionals in universities, government, industry and international organizations.
Book Synopsis The Role of Inter- and Intraindustry Trade in Technology Diffusion by : Ms.Dalia Hakura
Download or read book The Role of Inter- and Intraindustry Trade in Technology Diffusion written by Ms.Dalia Hakura and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1999-04-01 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research shows that international trade is an important channel for the transfer of technology. Building on this evidence, this paper examines the effects of inter- and intraindustry trade on technology transfer. The paper develops and tests the hypothesis that intraindustry trade stimulates more technology transfer than interindustry trade because countries are likely to absorb foreign technologies more easily when their imports are from the same sectors as their production and export sectors. The results of empirical tests for 87 countries during 1970–93 support this hypothesis.

Book Synopsis Empirical Regional Economics by : Richard S. Conway Jr.
Download or read book Empirical Regional Economics written by Richard S. Conway Jr. and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook offers an introduction to empirical regional economics, including a comprehensive and systematic overview of the fundamentals, history, development, and applications of economic base models. It not only provides a sound basis for regional economics and regional economic analysis, but it also includes numerous applications of the underlying theory. The book has an empirical orientation, highlighting the value of observation and testing in order to explain regional economic behavior. Theory plays an important role in this study, but it is only a starting point. The book is divided into three parts: the first discusses the economic base theory of regional growth and the empirical evidence supporting it, while the second part covers the specification and application of four increasingly complex regional economic models: the economic base model, the input-output model, the interindustry econometric model, and the structural time-series model. Lastly, the third part presents forty-eight regional economic case studies organized under seven headings, including economic cycles, economic policy, and regional forecasting. Given its scope, the book appeals to upper-undergraduate and graduate students majoring in economics, economic geography, and business, as well as to anyone in the private or public sector interested in gaining a better understanding of practical methods of regional economic forecasting and analysis. Book Synopsis Input-output Economics by : Wassily Leontief
Download or read book Input-output Economics written by Wassily Leontief and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1986 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of writings provides the only comprehensive introduction to the input-output model for which Leontief was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1973. The structural approach to economics developed by Leontief, and known as input-output analysis, paved the way for the transformation of economics into a truly empirical discipline that could utilize modern data processing technology. This thoroughly revised second edition includes twenty essays--twelve of which are new to this edition--that reflect the past developments and the present state of the field. Beginning with an introductory chapter, the book leads the reader into an understanding of the input-output approach--not only as formal theory but also as a research strategy and powerful tool for dealing with a complex modern economy.
