Book excerpt: At first glance, one might say, "Wow, what a disparate collection of languages, of what value could this dictionary be?" Well, of course the answer is, it is of value to all those who speak any of those languages individually, or any group of them. In addition, it represents for the reader, or student, or professional, or any lover of language and culture, the opportunity to see each of the cultures represented here through prism of that fundamental element upon which they rely and survive...language. As such, Peter Tase has taken another step in furthering the communication and mutual understanding so desperately needed in the world today, for which I am grateful, and pleased to be able to support. Download or read book Colonial Debts written by Rocío Zambrana and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-19 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the largest municipal debt in US history and a major hurricane that destroyed much of the archipelago's infrastructure, Puerto Rico has emerged as a key site for the exploration of neoliberalism and disaster capitalism. In Colonial Debts Rocío Zambrana develops the concept of neoliberal coloniality in light of Puerto Rico's debt crisis. Drawing on decolonial thought and praxis, Zambrana shows how debt functions as an apparatus of predation that transforms how neoliberalism operates. Debt functions as a form of coloniality, intensifying race, gender, and class hierarchies in ways that strengthen the colonial relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States. Zambrana also examines the transformation of protest in Puerto Rico. From La Colectiva Feminista en Construcción's actions, long-standing land rescue/occupation in the territory, to the July 2019 protests that ousted former governor Ricardo “Ricky” Rosselló, protests pursue variations of decolonial praxis that subvert the positions of power that debt installs. As Zambrana demonstrates, debt reinstalls the colonial condition and adapts the racial/gender order essential to it, thereby emerging as a key site for political-economic subversion and social rearticulation.
Book Synopsis Béla Bartók: Mikrokosmos Complete by : Chester Music
Download or read book Béla Bartók: Mikrokosmos Complete written by Chester Music and published by Chester Music. This book was released on 2014-04-05 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Béla Bartók’s six-book Mikrokosmos cycle is here presented for the first time in a superb single volume. Written between 1926 and 1939, this celebrated musical work spans simple études for beginners and complex technical tours de force aimed at skilled pianists. Bartók’s musical microcosm was designed to map and illustrate musical and technical progressions that remain as relevant to musical education today as they were when first published. From pieces suitable for those working towards Grade 1 to complex Grade 8-level pieces it advances through fundamentals such as hand co-ordination, musicality, aural skills and ensemble-playing, to complex and professionally performable concert pieces. Already accomplished players will discover a wealth of material to enjoy both as sight reading practice and as performance pieces. Beginners will find themselves embarking on a musical journey that promises potential mastery of their instrument. Mikrokosmos is a truly indispensable addition to every serious pianist’s library.
