This book was released on 2008-11-10 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first practical guide to infrastructure security using Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Intelligent Transportation Systems, or ITS, integrates different computing, control, and communication technologies to help monitor and manage traffic management that helps reduce congestion while saving lives, time, and money. While mobility and safety are the primary objectives of any good transportation system, security has also become an equally important consideration in their design and operation. This book provides a comprehensive treatment of techniques to leverage ITS in support of security and safety for surface transportation infrastructure. Through the book's multidisciplinary approach, readers gain a comprehensive introduction to the diverse aspects of transportation infrastructure security as well as how ITS can reduce risks and be protected from threats with such topics as computer systems, risk analysis, and multi-modal transportation systems. This book, which will serve as a textbook and guide, provides: Current ITS approaches to security issues such as freight security, disaster and evacuation response, HAZMAT incidents, rail security, and ITS Wide Area Alerts Guidance on the development of a regional transportation security plan Securing ITS itself and privacy issues involved in any collection and use of personally identifiable tracking data Exercises, question-and-answer sections, and other helpful review tools for the reader Filling a gap in the practical application of security, Transportation Infrastructure Security Utilizing Intelligent Transportation Systems offers both students and transportation professionals valuable insights into the new security challenges encountered and how to manage these challenges with the use of computerized transportation systems.

Book Synopsis Economic Impacts of Intelligent Transportation Systems by : E Bekiaris
Download or read book Economic Impacts of Intelligent Transportation Systems written by E Bekiaris and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-07-24 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are unique complexities associated with the economic valuation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and telematics. Traditional methods of quantitative analysis may not be appropriate in accurately and reliably assessing the economic impacts of these technologies. Although advanced transportation and related technologies are being planned and deployed at an increasingly rapid pace, many of the technologies are still relatively new, and their use may not be widespread. Much of the initial information and statistics gathered have been anecdotal and have focused more on benefits rather than costs. Therefore, difficulties arise due to the lack of historical data and 'lessons learned' from which to draw upon. In addition, compared with traditional transportation infrastructure, ITS technologies have different life cycles, cost structures, and a number of interrelated elements. This book addresses these concerns and proposes new economic assessment techniques as well as modifications to existing ones. Included are case studies from a multitude of North American, European, and Asian nations and major metropolitan areas covering a wide range of ITS technologies including freeway management, electronic toll collection, advanced driver assistance systems, and traveller information systems.
Book Synopsis Intelligent Road Transport Systems by : Yunpeng WANG
Download or read book Intelligent Road Transport Systems written by Yunpeng WANG and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-17 with total page 614 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the application of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) has steadily expanded, and has become a hot spot of common interest to universities, scientific research institutes, enterprises and institutions in the transportation field. ITS is the product of the deep integration of modern high-tech in the transportation industry, and its development has accompanied that of modern high-tech. ITS is now also becoming part of the Internet of Things (IoT), and is expected to contribute significantly to making our cities smarter and connecting with other infrastructure. Although there are many monographs and textbooks on intelligent transportation, with the advancement of technology and changes in demand, the key technologies of ITS are also rapidly changing. This book chiefly focuses on the main technologies of ITS, examining them from four perspectives: “sense” (perception and management of traffic information, chapters 2 & 3), “transmission” (interaction of traffic information, chapter 4), “prediction” (prediction of traffic states, chapter 6) and “application” (intelligent transportation applications, chapters 6 through 10). Given its scope, the book can be used as a textbook for undergraduates or graduates, as well as a reference book for research institutes and enterprises. This book emphasizes the use of basis traffic engineering principles and state-of-art methodologies to develop functional designs. It largely reflects the authors’ own experience in adapting these methodologies to ITS design. For example, the book addresses various forms of data collection, models used to predict and evaluate traffic states, comprehensive description in connected vehicles, applications for users and traffic managers, etc. The knowledge gained here will allow designers to estimate the performance differences among alternatives and gauge their potential benefits for functional design purposes. To gain the most from the book, readers should be somewhat familiar with the field of traffic engineering and interested in ITS.

Download or read book INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS written by PRADIP KUMAR SARKAR and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the time, Intelligent Transport System (ITS) has become important for any country not only for traffic congestion management, but also for modern infrastructure and safety. Since there is a dearth of literature on this subject, this book attempts to fill the gap and provides a holistic work on ITS encompassing theory, examples and case studies on various facets in both road and railway sectors. The basic principles of various technologies used for ITS have been explained in such a manner that students from non-technical background can also comprehend them with ease. It also discusses the emerging technologies such as autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, cooperative vehicle highway system, automated highway systems, 5G mobile technology, etc. Considering the need of huge funds required for ITS implementation, the text provides various funding options available. Conclusively, it is a unique book that contains all aspects of ITS which a student of engineering is expected to know. The book is intended as a text for postgraduate students of transportation engineering and as a reference book for professionals such as transport planners, town planners, traffic engineers, transit operators and consultants. Key Features, • ITS architecture with a number of case studies based on real-life situation • Concept of smart city, importance of advanced transport system, and applications of ITS technologies in smart cities • ITS in Rail sector—intelligent trains, train control systems and intelligent train maintenance practices • Chapter-end questions for practice and bibliography

Book Synopsis Intelligent Transportation Systems by : Richard Zavergiu
Download or read book Intelligent Transportation Systems written by Richard Zavergiu and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The identification, measurement, and allocation of benefits and costs for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are critical areas of investigation that influence the decision making related to ITS implementation. Traditional methods have concentrated on safety improvements and congestion relief, where time savings and reduction of incidents have generated the bulk of ITS benefits for transportation users. This approach limits the scope of a benefit-cost analysis and an underestimation of ITS benefits. This report develops an alternative approach that identifies four separate beneficiaries of ITS. It proposes a hierarchy of costs and benefits identifying and classifying benefits in relation to relevant costs. This framework will allow policy makers to understand how the financing of ITS deployment could be structured. To demonstrate how such a framework would work in a real-world ITS application, the report includes two case studies: one on border crossing and one on congestion charging.
