Book Synopsis Lawyers by : Oagile Bethuel Key Dingake
Download or read book Lawyers written by Oagile Bethuel Key Dingake and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2020-03-23 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book primarily covers legal professional ethics and court etiquette relevant to the duty of a lawyer in the major legal systems of the world. It emphasizes the point that lawyers must not only practice their craft with absolute integrity but should also be well behaved and civil to each other, the courts and other court users. Lawyers are first and foremost officers of the court; it is their duty to assist the court come to a proper and just determination of the issues in dispute, serving before the court. A lawyer’s duty to the court includes candour, honesty, and fairness. Lawyers, especially in an adversarial system, are required to act professionally with scrupulous fairness and integrity and to aid the court in promoting the cause of justice. There is an obligation on a lawyer not to take on a case in circumstances where the lawyer is plainly unqualified for the complexity of the task or has an inadequate knowledge of the area of law concerned. It is the duty of every lawyer to assist the judge by simplification and concentration and not to advance a multitude of ingenious arguments in the hope that one of the many arguments will win the day. Litigants and their lawyers are not entitled to the uncontrolled use of a trial judge’s time. Litigants are only entitled to so much of the trial judge’s time as is necessary for the proper determination of the relevant issues. Without this assistance from lawyers, the courts are unlikely to succeed in their endeavour to administer justice in a timely and efficient manner.

Download or read book The Tattie Lads written by Ian Dear and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enduring great danger and often terrible conditions in heavy seas, the Rescue Tug Services worked tirelessly to bring to port damaged vessels and keep up the supply of food and essential items during two world wars. They were first deployed towards the end of the First World War to support and if necessary to salvage merchant shipping that had been damaged by U-boat attacks. During the Second World War they were needed even more urgently when ships bringing food and other essential supplies to a beleaguered Britain were attacked by both air strikes and submarines. Although part of the Royal Navy, the contribution of the Rescue Tug Service remained curiously absent from the naval history of the Second World War. Yet the Service had developed what a wartime American newspaper called 'a new type of naval vessel – the British fighting escort tug' and had saved millions of tons of shipping, both warships and merchant ships, not to mention the crews and the precious cargoes. The official history of the Merchant Navy did not mention the Service either, nor did numerous other books on the war at sea. In 2014 author Ian Dear was given access to the archives of the Deep Sea Rescue Tug Service which were about to be disbanded. His research, here and elsewhere produced a view of the war at sea from an entirely new angle. The result, The 'Tattie Lads' explores why the service might have been omitted from the official story, and reveals its fascinating history in a full-length book for the first time.

Book Synopsis The Future of Policing by : Scott A. Cunningham
Download or read book The Future of Policing written by Scott A. Cunningham and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-03-19 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policing does not happen in a vacuum. The mood, viewpoints, and stresses of society impact how policing occurs and how it is perceived. Starting in June and July 2020, the nation saw weeks of protests, civil disturbances, and riots that were specifically directed against the police. This most recent round of public unrest was sparked by the senseless, needless, and improper death of George Floyd. Having seen similar deaths of black males while involved with police officers, the nation had had enough and demands for something to be done, were far reaching and involved more than just the black community or a few protestors. An all-encompassing variety of people either joined the protests or supported them. People of all demographic backgrounds, economic levels, and professions resoundingly condemned the actions of the officers in the Floyd incident, even police officers and police leaders. Policing in America needs to change. Scott Cunningham offers advice on a wide variety of policing aspects, including but not limited to, leadership, training, equipment and weapons, government’s roles and responsibilities, citizen and community participation, investigation procedure, police culture and attitudes, the list goes on. Looking at policing from multiple angles, he provides implementable recommendations for up and down the chain of command that, individually and collectively, could enhance policing and improve the quality of life for everyone.
