Book Synopsis Advanced Calculus by : Lynn Harold Loomis
Download or read book Advanced Calculus written by Lynn Harold Loomis and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. It can accordingly be used (with omissions) as a text for a year's course in advanced calculus, or as a text for a three-semester introduction to analysis. The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. As possible introductory texts, we mention Differential and Integral Calculus by R Courant, Calculus by T Apostol, Calculus by M Spivak, and Pure Mathematics by G Hardy. The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds.

Book excerpt: "Published by OpenStax College, Calculus is designed for the typical two- or three-semester general calculus course, incorporating innovative features to enhance student learning. The book guides students through the core concepts of calculus and helps them understand how those concepts apply to their lives and the world around them. Due to the comprehensive nature of the material, we are offering the book in three volumes for flexibility and efficiency. Volume 2 covers integration, differential equations, sequences and series, and parametric equations and polar coordinates."--BC Campus website.
Book Synopsis Foundations of Differential Calculus by : Euler
Download or read book Foundations of Differential Calculus written by Euler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-04 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The positive response to the publication of Blanton's English translations of Euler's "Introduction to Analysis of the Infinite" confirmed the relevance of this 240 year old work and encouraged Blanton to translate Euler's "Foundations of Differential Calculus" as well. The current book constitutes just the first 9 out of 27 chapters. The remaining chapters will be published at a later time. With this new translation, Euler's thoughts will not only be more accessible but more widely enjoyed by the mathematical community.
Book Synopsis Student Solutions Manual for Integrated Calculus by : Laura Taalman
Download or read book Student Solutions Manual for Integrated Calculus written by Laura Taalman and published by Macmillan Higher Education. This book was released on 2013-01-14 with total page 797 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taalman’s Calculus I with Integrated Precalculus helps students with weak mathematical backgrounds be successful in the calculus sequence, without retaking a precalculus course. Taalman’s innovative text is the only book to interweave calculus with precalculus and algebra in a manner suitable for math and science majors— not a rehashing or just-in-time review of precalculus and algebra, but rather a new approach that uses a calculus-level toolbox to examine the structure and behavior of algebraic and transcendental functions. This book was written specifically to tie in with the material covered in Taalman/Kohn Calculus. Students who begin their calculus sequence with Calculus I with Integrated Precalculus can easily continue on to Calculus II using the Taalman/Kohn text.

Book Synopsis Counterexamples in Calculus by : Sergiy Klymchuk
Download or read book Counterexamples in Calculus written by Sergiy Klymchuk and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010-12-31 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Counterexamples in Calculus serves as a supplementary resource to enhance the learning experience in single variable calculus courses. This book features carefully constructed incorrect mathematical statements that require students to create counterexamples to disprove them. Methods of producing these incorrect statements vary. At times the converse of a well-known theorem is presented. In other instances crucial conditions are omitted or altered or incorrect definitions are employed. Incorrect statements are grouped topically with sections devoted to: Functions, Limits, Continuity, Differential Calculus and Integral Calculus. This book aims to fill a gap in the literature and provide a resource for using counterexamples as a pedagogical tool in the study of introductory calculus.
