Book Synopsis Waves in the Ocean by : P.H. LeBlond
Download or read book Waves in the Ocean written by P.H. LeBlond and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1981-01-01 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book which will be welcomed not only by researchers and engineers, but also by teachers and students, as it contains the only comprehensive review of the dynamics of ocean waves. Existing books are now either out of date or restricted to specialized aspects of the subject, whereas this book covers all types of ocean waves, ranging from capillary to planetary waves. Because of its completeness of coverage, its use of elementary mathematics and the provision of numerous problems and exercises, the book will be an indispensable text for everyone. It is completed by a very lengthy bibliography which includes many references to the Russian literature.
Book Synopsis Transport Processes in Lakes and Oceans by : R. Gibbs
Download or read book Transport Processes in Lakes and Oceans written by R. Gibbs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Eighty-Second National Meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, from August 29 through September 1, 1976, had as one of its themes the topic of transport processes. One of the sessions related to this theme was "Transport Processes in the Oceans" chaired by R. P. Shaw and R. J. Gibbs. This session was devoted to the study of transport processes and their hydrodynamic modeling in large water bodies such as oceans and lakes; transport of both dissolved and solid material was con sidered. The interest developed at the session led to the conclu sion that the papers presented there should be published as a set rather than dispersed among the various technical journals that rep resent the wide variety of technical affiliations of the authors. This variety, in fact, is typical of this particular field with con tributors identified as chemical engineers, civil engineers, environ~ mental engineers, mechanical engineers, oceanographers and applied mechanicians to name just a few. Such an interdisciplinary area re quires more effort in keeping abreast of developments than do the traditional areas, since new material may be developed and presented in a wide range of technical journals and professional meetings.
Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Hot Wire Anemometry by : Charles G. Lomas
Download or read book Fundamentals of Hot Wire Anemometry written by Charles G. Lomas and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-09 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1985 book provides a summary of the theory and practice of the hot wire anemometer, an instrument used to measure the speed of fluid flow. Many techniques and uses of this instrument are discussed in detail. The author considers such topics as probe fouling, probe design, and circuit design, as well as the thermodynamics of heated wires and thin films. He also discusses measurements of turbulence, shear flows, vorticity, temperature, combined temperature and velocity, two-phase flows, and compressible flows for measurements in air, water, mercury, blood, glycerine, oil, luminous gases, and polymer solutions. The book concludes with a section on the pulsed wire anemometer and other wake-sensing anemometers. This book assumes a familiarity with basic fluid mechanics. However, mathematical descriptions occur near the end of each chapter thus allowing those with a limited mathematical background to make use of the practical details at the beginning of each chapter.

Book Synopsis A Refined Measurement of Aerodynamic Pressures Over Progressive Water Waves by : Hsi Yen Yu
Download or read book A Refined Measurement of Aerodynamic Pressures Over Progressive Water Waves written by Hsi Yen Yu and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improved pressure sensing and wave following systems for the investigation of the characteristics of the turbulent air stream in the vicinity of air-water interface were developed. A reappraisal of Miles' inviscid theory was made. A carefully controlled experiment designed to match assumptions was performed by using the newly developed systems. The wave-induced pressure signal was extracted by using a waveform educator. The result, in terms of both pressure magnitude and phase angle, was summarized with the experimental results of others to compare with Miles' inviscid theory. (Author).
