Book excerpt: Inside DMS - Automotive Dealer Management System, is a 360 degree tour de force of the intricate world of automotive retail and how that relates to automotive dealer management systems (DMS) today and especially the future. The book evolves around the fundamental and pressing issue of reforming how automotive retailers operate to how consumers are rapidly changing their buying behavior, for instance as a result of social media. Business to business and traditional consumer marketing is "dead", while peer-to-peer marketing is taking over. In other words, purchasing of cars is quickly changing from advertising and in dealership sales process induced to be highly influenced by the new social media and consumers' own research. Buyers of cars may be more educated about the product they are interested in that the sales guy at the dealership! THAT is a challenge of potentially cataclysmic proportions for automotive retailers, unless they try to understand the changes and quickly adapt to those. This book is therefore by no means for the readers who dwell in the past, but rather you who would like to understand the opportunities modern technology can bring to automotive retail to solve current and especially "just around the corner" operational issues. With the introduction of a fully, integrated, DMS, in which work flows and data is captured in the same application, financial postings happen real-time and reporting and business intelligence on all levels of an automotive dealership organization is instantly available. The book takes additional steps further into the future of automotive retail. Tremendous operational efficiencies may be achieved, improved customer relationship as well as guidance to the use of social media and even taking bold steps into a completely new vision of what automotive retail of "tomorrow" could be like. The book is of high relevance for just about anyone associated with, working in or just interested in the automotive industry: Dealership principals and executive teams, educators, students, dealership staff, automotive manufacturer leadership and staff, analysts or if you share our affinity for the most wonderful trade: Cars!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the pocket guide I wish I had when I first became a general manager of a Mitsubishi dealership in New York. Honestly, I am not the brightest star in the sky and made every mistake anyone could've possibly made. Unfortunately, I see dealer principals/general managers/general sales managers making the same mistakes today. The only difference is the time and consequences of these mistakes. I got my first GM gig in 2004. That was in the beginning days of the Internet, before millennials joined the workforce, and way before any viable disrupters entered the market space. It was a lot easier to get away with mistakes then. I don't think you could get away with making the same mistakes now. The stakes are too high. Automotive retail profit margins are tiny. According to the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), automotive net profit margin as of March 31, 2019 was merely 1.38 percent. As a result, every misstep makes it harder to stay in business. The car business desperately needs better leadership skills, understanding of social media, inventory management, fixed operations, and so much more. There is no educational barrier to the entry into car business, and there are only a handful of universities offering a major in car dealership general management, such as Liberty and Keiser. On top of that, only a tiny percentage of dealer principals and general managers attend the National Automobile Dealer Association University. That means that a vast majority of general managers receive training on the job, even if we took business-related classes in college. The auto business is a different animal. General information will only carry you so far. That is exactly why general managers make the same mistakes year after year. My goal is to break this vicious cycle and provide as much information as possible to ensure that automotive retail survives the disruptions we are witnessing today. We need to be ready for the next generation of car buyers, people who are more computer savvy and not afraid to search for better deals. According to surveys, 80 percent of millennials plan to buy a vehicle in the next five years. In fact, millennials worldwide will buy about 40 percent of all vehicles in the next decade. At the same time, they spend an average of 17 hours on line before going to a dealership. Are you ready for them?

Trudge through disgusting sewers to battle manatee-massacring mermaids and soggy cultists, creep through creepy, fog-littered cemeteries straight out of an ancient Hammer Film soundstage, confront undead lecherous lodgers and other assorted beasties, creepies, and ghoulies. It all comes down to whether an adolescent giant Automaton, a truly mad, Mad Scientist, a surly Necromancer, a Banshee's granddaughter, and a reluctant furry monster straight from under your little sister's bed can manage not to kill each other - or, at least, quit fighting over the tele-privilege-schedule long enough to get the job done! Not likely.

Book excerpt: Fast Break addresses the increasing challenges that today's automotive dealers face. Over a period of decades, dealers developed a transaction/centric mindset. Given that you only have the opportunity to sell a new vehicle every 4-7 years this may be understandable. Unfortunately this mindset has crept into the service department, which needs to have the opposite orientation. By embracing a customer-centric approach to your service business, you can counteract the increasing threats from slowing vehicle sales, margin compression and existing and new competition. Using facts, figures and insights gleaned from interviews with progressive service leaders and recent market research, Fast Break presents real world examples to provide a new approach to addressing the challenges of today and tomorrow. From the author: Sorry about the purchase price, it's due to this being a color book and the low print quantity. The book was produced for the benefit of the industry, neither Jim Roche or Cox Automotive are paid any money from the sales of Fast Break.
