Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind Tunnel Test Techniques: Design and Use at Low and High Speeds with Statistical Engineering Applications provides an up-to-date treatment of the topic. Beginning with a brief history of wind tunnels and its types and uses, the book goes on to cover subsonic, supersonic and hypersonic wind tunnel design and construction, calibration, boundary corrections, flow quality assessment, pressure surveys, and dynamic testing. It also focuses on wind tunnel facilities, making it useful for both the designer and operator. Engineers and graduate students in aerospace, automotive and similar programs will find this book useful in their work with experimental aerodynamics, gas dynamics, facility design and performance. Deals with a broad range of flow speeds in wind tunnels, from low speed to high speed Provides a discussion of similarity laws as well as material on statistical analysis Includes coverage on facility-to-facility and facility-to-CFD correlation Presents advanced topics such as cryogenic wind tunnels, ground simulation in automotive testing, and propulsion testing
Book Synopsis An Evaluation of Wind Tunnel Test Techniques for Aircraft Nozzle Afterbody Testing at Transonic Mach Numbers by :
Download or read book An Evaluation of Wind Tunnel Test Techniques for Aircraft Nozzle Afterbody Testing at Transonic Mach Numbers written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of many experiments to develop and verify wind tunnel test techniques for determining engine exhaust effects on aircraft performance at transonic Mach numbers are summarized. The influence of model support interference, exhaust jet simulation techniques, wind tunnel calibration-flow quality and operating conditions, model geometric effects, and measurement techniques n afterbody aerodynamic forces are discussed. Recommendations are given for reducing or eliminating adverse interference effects on wind tunnel test data.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of Wind Tunnel Nozzle Afterbody Test Techniques Utilizing a Modern Twin Engine Fighter Geometry at Mach Numbers from 0.6 to 1.2 by : Ernest J. Lucas
Download or read book Evaluation of Wind Tunnel Nozzle Afterbody Test Techniques Utilizing a Modern Twin Engine Fighter Geometry at Mach Numbers from 0.6 to 1.2 written by Ernest J. Lucas and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyses of surface pressure data from wind tunnel tests conducted in the Propulsion Wind Tunnel (16T) on the 0.1- and 0.2-scale models of the YF-17 aircraft and flight tests conducted at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center with the prototype YF-17 were conducted to substantiate the effectiveness of the subscale wind tunnel test techniques currently used at AEDC to provide data to evaluate throttle-dependent effects. The data were obtained at Mach numbers 0.6, 0.9, and 1.2 at characteristic Reynold numbers based on fuselage length from 14 million to 250 million. The data obtained at Mach numbers 0.6 and 0.9 indicate that valid techniques are available to obtain subscale wind tunnel data that are directly applicable to aft-end throttle-dependent flight performance prediction. The wind tunnel plume simulation techniques, however, do not provide data for directly predicting the flight vehicle, aft-end, calculated loads at Mach number 1.2. Additional corrections must be applied to the data to compensate for temperature effects associated with afterburning operations, such as that encountered at Mach 1.2.

Book Synopsis Investigation of Subsonic Annular Nozzles for Engine Exhaust/external Flow Interaction Studies by : R. J. Matz
Download or read book Investigation of Subsonic Annular Nozzles for Engine Exhaust/external Flow Interaction Studies written by R. J. Matz and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of an experimental investigation to determine the feasibility of conducting engine/external flow interaction tests in subsonic annular airstreams are presented. A representative afterbody model with a 4-in.-diam cylindrical forebody, a faired 15-deg boattail, and a 2.68-in.-diam solid body plume simulator was tested in an 8- by 6-ft porous wall wind tunnel and in annular jets produced by 6-, 8-, and 12-in.-diam nozzles. Afterbody Mach number distributions and boattail pressure drag coefficients obtained on the afterbody in the annular jet were compared with wind tunnel results obtained with boattail approach Mach numbers between 0.5 and 1.0. Boundary-layer profiles were also obtained during the wind tunnel and the annular jet tests.
