Müller and published by Springer. This book was released on 1981-08-20 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Recommendations on Excavations by : Deutsche Gesellschaft für Geotechnik
Download or read book Recommendations on Excavations written by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Geotechnik and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-02-05 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of these recommendations is to harmonize and further develop the methods, according to which excavations are prepared, calculated and carried out. Since 1980, these have been drawn up by the working group "Excavations" at the German Geotechnical Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Geotechnik DGGT) and are similar to a set of standards. They help to simplify analysis of excavation enclosures, to unify load approaches and analysis procedures, to guarantee the stability and serviceability of the excavation structure and its individual components, and to find out an economic design of the excavation structure. For this new edition, all recommendations have been reworked in accordance with EN 1997-1 (Eurocode 7) and DIN 1054-1. In addition, new recommendations on the use of the modulus of subgrade reaction method and the finite element method (FEM), as well as a new chapter on excavations in soft soils, have been added.

Download or read book Geomechanik — Fortschritte in der Theorie und deren Auswirkungen auf die Praxis / Geomechanics — Progress in Theory and Its Effects on Practice written by Österreichische Gesellschaft für Geomechanik and published by Springer. This book was released on 1973-04-27 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important objective of the civil and mining engineer concerned with structures in rock such as tunnels, open pits, dam foundations and so forth is the creation of a safe and efficient design. This necessitates an estimate of the immediate and long-term performance of the surface or subsurface opening or foundation, whichever the case may be. This in turn requires a quantitative estimate of those physical and mechanical properties of the rock mass which govern its strength, permeability and deformation charac teristics. To a lesser or greater extent, depending upon the type of engineer ing structure considered, these properties are a function of the 1) attitude, 2) geometry and 3) spatial distribution of the joints and other discontinuities in the mass. All three factors can be determined, since the joints are detect able features whose characteristics can be quantitatively measured and described. Joints are universally present in rock masses and have strength, per meability and deformational characteristics appreciably different from those of the intact rock. Depending upon the origin of the joints sets, their characteristics can vary greatly. Not only can the average spacing between joints vary within wide limits, but the nature and degree of joint infilling material, physical characteristics of their planes and their degree of develop ment can be vastly different. Because of variations in these properties one joint set can have very different effects than another on, for example, shear characteristics. Hence, each joint set should be examined individually for its properties.
