Book Synopsis Vessel Health and Preservation: The Right Approach for Vascular Access by : Nancy L. Moureau
Download or read book Vessel Health and Preservation: The Right Approach for Vascular Access written by Nancy L. Moureau and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-10 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Open access book offers updated and revised information on vessel health and preservation (VHP), a model concept first published in poster form in 2008 and in JVA in 2012, which has received a great deal of attention, especially in the US, UK and Australia. The book presents a model and a new way of thinking applied to vascular access and administration of intravenous treatment, and shows how establishing and maintaining a route of access to the bloodstream is essential for patients in acute care today. Until now, little thought has been given to an intentional process to guide selection, insertion and management of vascular access devices (VADs) and by default actions are based on crisis management when a quickly selected VAD fails. The book details how VHP establishes a framework or pathway model for each step of the patient experience, intentionally guiding, improving and eliminating risk when possible. The evidence points to the fact that reducing fragmentation, establishing a pathway, and teaching the process to all stakeholders reduces complications with intravenous therapy, improves efficiency and diminishes cost. As such this book appeals to bedside nurses, physicians and other health professionals.
Book Synopsis Intravenous Infusion Therapy for Medical Assistants by : Dianne L. Josephson
Download or read book Intravenous Infusion Therapy for Medical Assistants written by Dianne L. Josephson and published by Delmar Thomson Learning. This book was released on 2006 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essential publication focuses on what the CMA needs to know about intravenous infusion therapy. Infusion or IV therapy has long been part of the acute care of patients. However, more patients are receiving IV therapy at home, in emergency centers, at infusion centers, and in dialysis clinics. Thus, CMAs often need to understand IV therapy to lay out the equipment, to monitor the patient, to assess the infusion site, to discontinue the infusion, and perhaps even to insert the IV. The purpose of this book is to help you understand the theory of IV therapy. With patient safety in mind, risks, complications, and adverse reactions are discussed in Intravenous Infusion Therapy for Medical Assistants. Giving the correct medication is crucial to the CMA, so intravenous infusion preparations are compared and contrasted. Sidebars of Medical Assisting Alerts and Tips are distributed throughout the text to highlight key safety concerns and professional issues. Each chapter concludes with Review Questions and Activities to ensure that learning objectives have been met.

Increasingly, scientific evidence shows us that true satisfaction and well-being come only from within. Dr. Andrew Weil has proven that the best way to maintain optimum physical health is to draw on both conventional and alternative medicine. Now, in Spontaneous Happiness, he gives us the foundation for attaining and sustaining optimum emotional health. Rooted in Dr. Weil's pioneering work in integrative medicine, the book suggests a reinterpretation of the notion of happiness, discusses the limitations of the biomedical model in treating depression, and elaborates on the inseparability of body and mind. Dr. Weil offers an array of scientifically proven strategies from Eastern and Western psychology to counteract low mood and enhance contentment, comfort, resilience, serenity, and emotional balance. Drawn from psychotherapy, mindfulness training, Buddhist psychology, nutritional science, and more, these strategies include body-oriented therapies to support emotional wellness, techniques for managing stress and anxiety and changing mental habits that keep us stuck in negative patterns, and advice on developing a spiritual dimension in our lives. Lastly, Dr. Weil presents an eight-week program that can be customized according to specific needs, with short- and long-term advice on nutrition, exercise, supplements, environment, lifestyle, and much more.
