El Fondo Mundial para la Naturaleza (WWF, 2020) explicaque la pérdida de filtros de agentes patógenos en la naturaleza aumenta laprobabilidad de que los virus pasen directamente a los humanos, y existe pruebacientífica de que cerca del 70% de las enfermedades humanas en los últimoscuarenta años han sido transmitidas por animales salvajes, el ébola, el sida,el SARS, la gripe aviar, la gripe porcina y el covid-19 son ejemplo de ello;por tanto, conservar el equilibrio, frenar la extinción de especies yresguardar los ecosistemas naturales son acciones urgentes si queremos evitarnuevas pandemias.
