Download or read book Recent Advances in Environmental Science from the Euro-Mediterranean and Surrounding Regions (2nd Edition) written by Mohamed Ksibi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-09 with total page 2249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes over three hundred and seventy-five short papers presented during the second EMCEI, which was held in Sousse, Tunisia in October 2019. After the success of the first EMCEI in 2017, the second installment tackled emerging environmental issues together with new challenges, e.g. by focusing on innovative approaches that contribute to achieving a sustainable environment in the Mediterranean and surrounding regions and by highlighting to decision makers from related sectors the environmental considerations that should be integrated into their respective activities. Presenting a wide range of environmental topics and new findings relevant to a variety of problems in these regions, this volume will appeal to anyone working in the subject area and particularly to students interested in learning more about new advances in environmental research initiatives in view of the worsening environmental degradation of the Mediterranean and surrounding regions, which has made environmental and resource protection into an increasingly important issue hampering sustainable development and social welfare.

Book Synopsis Wastewater Reclamation and Reuse by : Rafael Mujeriego
Download or read book Wastewater Reclamation and Reuse written by Rafael Mujeriego and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1991 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Symposium on Wastewater Reclamation and Reuse was organized by the IAWPRC Water Reuse Group and the Universidad Politecnico de Cataluno in response to the growing worldwide awareness of the advantages and importance of wastewater reuse in both the developed and the developing world. Evidence from schemes in many parts of the world, in particular arid or semi-arid countries, has shown that treated wastewater can safely perform many of the functions carried out by unpolluted water, often providing a much needed supplement to unreliable fresh water supplies. The proceedings of the conference are published here under the seven technical themes of the symposium which discuss all aspects of water reclamation including water quality and the possible effect on public health as well as the technology, management, planning and applications for treated water. These topics are then examined further in the 28 selected papers by authorities on the subject from around the world to provide a study of water reclamation essential for anyone working in this field.

Book Synopsis 1st World Water Congress by : IWA Programme Committee
Download or read book 1st World Water Congress written by IWA Programme Committee and published by IWA Publishing (International Water Assoc). This book was released on 2001-06-30 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The World Water Congress held in Paris in July 2000 was the first under the banner of the International Water Association, formed by the merger of the International Association on Water Quality and the International Water Services Association. The success of the merger was reflected in the unprecedented degree of interest and participation in the Congress, with nearly two-and-a-half thousand delegates attending for 450 oral presentations, 750 poster presentations and 4 workshops and seminars. From the large number of oral presentations in both the operations and management and the scientific and technical sessions, 58 papers dealing with aspects of the management of water, wastewater and solids have been selected for this issue. Topics include: wastewater operational methods and tools; economic optimization and management; industrial wastewater treatment; small wastewater treatment plants; aeration in wastewater treatment; nuisance-free wastewater treatment plants; sewerage management; watershed and water resources management; landfill management of solid wastes; sludge characteristics; and sludge management. With authors who rank among the world's leading experts in these fields, tackling some of the most prominent contemporary problems, these proceedings are an essential compilation of the latest advances in the management of water, wastewater, the associated solid wastes, and the utilities responsible for these tasks.

Book Synopsis Advanced Wastewater Treatment, Recycling and Reuse by : L. Bonomo
Download or read book Advanced Wastewater Treatment, Recycling and Reuse written by L. Bonomo and published by IWA Publishing (International Water Assoc). This book was released on 1999-05-31 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in wastewater treatment research and practice are leading towards sound technical approaches for producing high quality effluent from wastewater; this offers a reliable new water source for various beneficial uses, from relatively simple agricultural irrigation, to the recycling of industrial process water, to complex potable water reuse schemes. Wastewater reclamation, recycling and reuse is thus closely linked to advanced wastewater treatment. However, opportunities for adopting technological innovations in reuse are particularly significant, because reclaimed water has economic value as a water supply. Furthermore, while the disposal of treated effluent is subject to stringent pollution control measures, water reuse can permit more flexibility in water quality management for beneficial purposes. These proceedings comprise 55 selected papers from the International Conference on Advanced Wastewater Treatment, Recycling and Reuse. The range of technologies includes: advanced physico-chemical treatment; advanced biological treatment, including biological nutrient removal; disinfection problems; membrane treatment; agricultural applications and natural treatment systems; and applications in the textile and tannery industries. More importantly, the strategic approach to sustainable water resources planning and development is emphasised throughout, with wastewater reclamation, recycling and reuse being considered as a key element of water resources management.

Book Synopsis Health-Related Water Microbiology 2000 by : R. Morris
Download or read book Health-Related Water Microbiology 2000 written by R. Morris and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quality and quantity of papers given at successive Health-related Water Microbiology Symposia continues to increase and the millennium meeting in Paris saw the highest ever number of delegates and presentations. Of necessity, these selected proceedings can only give a taste of the overall content of the Symposium but nevertheless, reflect on the growing interest and awareness of the importance of the microbial contamination of our environment and the implications for human health. Numerous contributions address different aspects of one of the waterborne diseases of most concern, cryptosporidiosis. However, this did not preclude reports on outbreaks of other diseases. Several contributions raised important questions: how should epidemiological data be interpreted? and what methods are valid for regulatory monitoring? were of particular interest. Newly developed analytical methods have allowed a greater range of pathogens to be detected. However, such techniques have little significance if they cannot be used for the practical evaluation of water quality and part of this is the acquiring of monitoring data upon which future treatment and policy decisions can be made. The 43 papers selected here cover: standards and quality assurance; risk assessment; epidemiology and disease outbreaks; monitoring; microbial survival; disinfection; wastewater treatment; methodology; and microbial toxins.
