Book Synopsis Handbook of Research on Innovation and Clusters by : Charlie Karlsson
Download or read book Handbook of Research on Innovation and Clusters written by Charlie Karlsson and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This volume is an important step in furthering the discussion about how cluster strategies work and the implications for theory and policy.' – Jennifer Clark, Review of Regional Studies The role of innovations and clusters has increasingly dominated local and regional development policies in recent decades. This authoritative and accessible Handbook considers important aspects of high-tech clusters, analyses insightful cluster case studies, and provides a number of recommendations for cluster policies. The chapters in this Handbook are written by international experts in the field and present evidence of the scope, effects, and potential of clusters as concentrations of innovative activities. The authors emphasize that cluster development is not the only option for local and regional development and argue that for cluster policies to be worthwhile, supporting policies in fields such as education, R&D, transportation, and communication infrastructure must accompany most cluster policies. Furthermore, several contributions stress that clusters often develop along a life cycle that may end with decline and even the disappearance of clusters. Consequently, this Handbook provides the basis for improving both research on innovation and clusters and the formulation and implementation of cluster policies. Furnishing the reader with rich, comprehensive discussion of innovations and clusters, this Handbook will be an essential source for researchers and academics in the field, as well as policymakers, planners and specialists, development experts and agencies, and consultants.

Download or read book Entrepreneurship and Knowledge Exchange written by Jay Mitra and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last several decades there has been a growing interest in the relationship between entrepreneurship and university-industry collaboration, namely how such cooperation can benefit entrepreneurship development at individual, national, and regional levels. While there are several refereed journal articles on different aspects of university-industry cooperation, most studies dwell primarily on instruments such as spin-offs, incubators and graduate entrepreneurs. This collection offers the first book-length compendium of international comparative perspectives on university-industry cooperation. Entrepreneurship and Knowledge Exchange explores insights from a wide variety of countries of relevance to researchers as well as policy and decision makers, especially those working in developing economies. Seminal contributions from top academics in the field, such as Alan Gibb, Peter Scott, and Mary Walshok, are included. The issues of knowledge transfer, entrepreneurship, and regional/national economic regeneration have inspired countless programs and initiatives at national and regional levels, and the chapters in this book examine these initiatives, providing both a reference work and a record of practical experience.

These concepts play an integral part in the evolution of economic and managerial thinking, particularly in relation to the themes of firm, knowledge and innovation. The author advocates a greater socialization of the production of knowledge capital that stands in contradiction to the strong appropriation strategies that are predominant today. This book presents a historical analysis of the facts with a strong basis in the recent literature in economics and innovation management as well as in case studies of CAC 40 companies that have been conducted over the course of the past few years.

Book Synopsis China as the Workshop of the World by : Yuning Gao
Download or read book China as the Workshop of the World written by Yuning Gao and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is China becoming the "workshop of the world" in the same way as Britain and the United States once were; or is China – as some multinational companies believe – simply a processing segment in global production networks? This book examines China’s role in the international division of labor: it analyzes the scale and scope of China’s manufacture; the type and relative sophistication of its exports in the world market; and its position in the global value chain. It shows that China monopolizes industrial production by being the processing center of world. Based on extensive original research, this book examines the structure of production in global manufacturing industries, applying both qualitative and quantitative methods. It analyzes each segment of the value chain, exploring in depth several specific industrial sectors. It concludes that China has become deeply integrated into global manufacturing industry; that China’s position in the value chain is still quite low, with relatively low research and development (R&D) and other similar high-value activities; but that, in some sectors, China is catching up rapidly, especially in newly emerging sectors.

Book Synopsis Towards a Knowledge-based Economy by : Seiichi Masuyama
Download or read book Towards a Knowledge-based Economy written by Seiichi Masuyama and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 2003-01-21 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of the information and communications technology (ICT) paradigm is shifting the basis for economic activity from material and labour inputs to knowledge and information inputs, spawning the knowledge-based economy. In East Asia, it is evident that the emergence of the knowledge-based economy is disrupting the flying geese pattern of development and creating a new industrial geography. This book gives a picture of the shifting industrial geography in the region based on accounts of the status of the knowledge-based economy in ten individual East Asian economies. For some economies the increased production of ICT equipment and services is the pathway to the knowledge-based economy and even to leapfrogging ahead of more advanced economies. Other economies are focused on putting in place the physical and institutional infrastructure to connect to electronic networks and avoid the digital divide. For yet others, the emergence of the knowledge-based economy is expanding their role in the region, adding the role of ICT hub.

Download or read book A Hybrid BSC-DEA Model with Indeterminate Information written by Mohammad Jaberi Hafshjani and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategy is the main source of long-term growth for organizations, and if it is not successfully implemented, even if appropriate ones are adopted, the process is futile. The balanced scorecard which focuses on four aspects such as growth and learning, internal processes, customer, and financial is considered as a comprehensive framework for assessing performance and the progress of the strategy. Moreover, the data envelopment analysis is one of the best mathematical methods to compute the efficiency of organizations. The combination of these two techniques is a significant quantitative measurement with respect to the organization’s performance. However, in the real world, determinate and indeterminate information exists. Henceforth, the indeterminate issues are inescapable and must be considered in the performance evaluation. Neutrosophic number is a helpful tool for dealing with information that is indeterminate and incomplete.
