This book was released on 2013-05-20 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications of the science of fluid mechanics to the new and expanding fields of industrial safety and environmental protection are discussed in this volume. The material is organized in accordance with the chain-of-events in real accidents, starting with the loss of containment of hazardous fluids, going on to the spreading and mixing processes in water or air, and ending with the damage loads caused by explosions, fires or toxic content. To develop solutions relevant to the wide range of problems considered, it is necessary to draw on material from various branches of fluid mechanics, i.e. from the engineering fields (aero- and gas- and hydrodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer and two-phase flows) as well as from geophysics (environmental flows, boundary-layer meteorology). The relevant solutions are developed from the fundamental equations, but are kept simple for transparency and understanding. To achieve this, the simplifications offered by scaling, similarity and entrainment concepts are used extensively. Many of the solutions are novel but have been confirmed by laboratory experiments. The material in the book has been used as a teaching text on Master's level, but the content will be useful also for practising engineers and scientists engaged in safety and environmental impact. The problems considered have been encountered in consultancy work for industry and government agencies. The coherent presentation and the fundamental basis for analytical developments, makes the material accessible also to readers not acquainted with the field.

Download or read book Fluid Machinery written by Terry Wright and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-12-16 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published nearly a decade ago, Fluid Machinery: Performance, Analysis, and Design quickly became popular with students, professors, and professionals because of its comprehensive and comprehensible introduction to the fluid mechanics of turbomachinery. Renamed to reflect its wider scope and reorganized content, this second edition provides a more logical flow of information that will enhance understanding. In particular, it presents a consistent notation within and across chapters, updating material when appropriate. Although the authors do account for the astounding growth in the field of computational fluid dynamics that has occurred since publication of the first edition, this text emphasizes traditional "one-dimensional" layout and points the way toward using CFD for turbomachinery design and analysis. Presents Extensive Examples and Design Exercises to Illustrate Performance Parameters and Machine Geometry By focusing on the preliminary design and selection of equipment to meet performance specifications, the authors promote a basic yet thorough understanding of the subject. They cover topics including gas and hydraulic turbines and equipment that is widely used in the industry, such as compressors, blowers, fans, and pumps. This book promotes a pragmatic approach to turbomachinery application and design, examining a realistic array of difficulties and conflicting requirements. The authors use examples from a broad range of industrial applications to illustrate the generality of the basic design approach and the common ground of seemingly diverse areas of application. With a variety of illustrations, examples, and exercises that emphasize real-world industrial applications, this book not only prepares students to face industrial applications with confidence, but also supplies professionals with a compact and easy-to-use reference.

Book Synopsis Flow of Industrial Fluids by : Raymond Mulley
Download or read book Flow of Industrial Fluids written by Raymond Mulley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-04-30 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To describe the flow of industrial fluids, the technical literature generally takes either a highly theoretical, specialized approach that can make extracting practical information difficult, or highly practical one that is too simplified and focused on equipment to impart a thorough understanding. Flow of Industrial Fluids: Theory and Equations takes a novel approach that bridges the gap between theory and practice. In a uniquely structured series of chapters and appendices, it presents the basic theory and equations of fluid flow in a logical, common-sense manner with just the right amount of detail and discussion. Detailed derivations and explanations are relegated to chapter-specific appendices, making both aspects easier to access. The treatment is further organized to address incompressible flow before compressible flow, allowing the more complex theory and associated equations to build on the less complex. The measurement and control of fluid flow requires a firm understanding of flow phenomena. Engineer or technician, student or professional, if you have to deal with industrial flow processes, pumps, turbines, ejectors, or piping systems, you will find that Flow of Industrial Fluids effectively links theory to practice and builds the kind of insight you need to solve real-world problems.
