Download or read book Rajiv's World written by Sonia Gandhi and published by Viking Adult. This book was released on 1994 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rajiv, authored by Sonia Gandhi in 1992, the year after her husband's assassination, was a portrait of him in the full current of his life. This book is a portrait of him too - but with a difference. It is one of which in a sense he is the author, since it is entirely composed of his photographs. Rajiv Gandhi, India's youngest-ever Prime Minister, was known world-wide for his qualities of leadership and his personal charisma. However, until the publication of Rajiv, in which some of his photographs appeared for the first time, few were aware that he was also an accomplished photographer. In this volume, Sonia Gandhi offers a wider selection of his photographs. Her brief but informative introduction explains his photography in context and discloses the significance it held for him. The photographs in the book, most of which have never been published before, span almost four decades, from his childhood to his last year in office. They have been grouped under the broad themes of family, nature and people. Within these categories are presented entrancing landscapes, minutely observed particulars of nature, abstract studies and fascinating family vignettes.

Book Synopsis Matters of Discretion by : I.K. Gujral
Download or read book Matters of Discretion written by I.K. Gujral and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2011-02-01 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first-ever autobiography written by an Indian prime minister. Only once in a lifetime comes a book that simply must be read! An absorbing, authentic and definitive account, by a former prime minister, of crucial events that had a significant impact on the nation’s destiny after independence. I K Gujral has penned his life story in a forthright and candid manner. He entered the political fray as a freedom fighter in the British era, and after the tumultuous events that rocked the Indian subcontinent in the wake of the partition in August 1947, crossed over from Pakistan to India, where he had to begin life from scratch. Despite facing tremendous odds, on the basis of his perseverance, resilience and never-say-die attitude, Gujral’s achievements allowed him to witness and shape India’s contemporary history. Gujral joined Congress Party and was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1964. He was the Information and Broadcasting Minister when emergency was imposed, which entailed arbitrary press censorship. Since he refused to bow down to the de facto powers, he was unceremoniously replaced and later sent by Indira Gandhi as India’s ambassador to the USSR, a post he handled with commendable tact and finesse. After his stint in Moscow, he returned to India and re-entered the ‘political whirlpool’ by joining the Janata Dal. He became minister for external affairs under V P Singh (1989) and Deve Gowda (1996). Gujral reached the pinnacle of his career when he became the prime minister on 1997. During his priministership, despite the exigencies and pressures of running a coalition government, he endeavoured to achieve progress in many spheres. The Gujral Doctrine (a set of five principles to guide the conduct of foreign relations with India’s immediate neighbours) was widely acclaimed in both India and the West. This volume, a valuable addition to the literature on contemporary history, provides a deep insight into the political scene as it unfolded after independence and delineates the roles played by a wide spectrum of politicians, bureaucrats, and many others.

Book Synopsis India's Democracy by : Dr. Samir Mukhopadhyay
Download or read book India's Democracy written by Dr. Samir Mukhopadhyay and published by Doshor Publication. This book was released on 2023-02-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dreamers of building up a democratic polity in our country drafted a constitution to come into effect after the attainment of long-cherished independence. India's Constitution was designed after the western model of liberal democracy. It is a representative democracy where the ability of the elected representatives to exercise decision-making power is regulated by the rule of law. Liberal democracy is committed to the protection of the rights and freedoms of individuals. Indian Constitution incorporated fundamental rights, justice, liberty, equality, and tolerance between and among widely differing political views and maintaining social and political pluralism, which are essential ingredients of a liberal democracy. The shamelessness of most Indian politicians happens to be the shackles to the growth of Indian politics on the democratic track worth the name.
