Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Crisis in India There can be no doubt that India is passing through a serious transition both socially and politically. The one great point in which the writer of the book believes is the intimate connection between our Social and Political advance and how largely the latter is dependent for its success 'upon the former. If he has succeeded in bringing out this point clearly and made his countrymen realize the urgent need for an upheaval in the direction Of social reformation the writer of these pages will feel amply rewarded. Download or read book Indian Stories (Classic Reprint) written by Cicero Newell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-17 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Indian Stories Many years ago I lived among the Indians and knew them well. They were very different from the Indians of to-day. It would be hard now to find any Indians who are as close to the original traditions as were those old friends of mine. I want to give the boys and girls of to-day a chance to see the Indian as I saw him, and to know how he lived and what he thought. It is a pleasure to tell this story; for I came to love the Indian, and I had great respect for him and for his manner of life. When I first lived among the Dakotas, they were still strongly prejudiced in favor of the old ways, tradi tions and customs. They looked back-with regret upon earlier times, when they lived, unmolested, the wild, free life of the forests. They said that their ancestors were better men than they, because their ancestors lived closer to the Great Spirit, by whom the actions of all Indians were guided. I give the stories as they were told to me by old men who knew and loved the old-time ways, and who wanted to give me the real facts because they saw that I respected their customs and believed in them. In these stories I share with the boys and girls of to-day, who can never know the old-fashioned Indians, my recollections of a busy and happy life among them, at a time when they had not unlearned all the old customs. Download or read book India and the English (Classic Reprint) written by Barbara Wingfield-Stratford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from India and the English Of the many books that have been written about India, the greater number fall, roughly speaking, into two categories. One is that of the book which sets out frankly to be a guide to certain districts of India, with, sandwiched in, notes on shikar and, in some instances, detailed descriptions of the author's daily life. The other kind of book is a highly technical treatise upon some given aspect of Indian life - historical, social or political - written by a specialist in the one particular subject undertaken. In writing this book I have aimed at neither of these two ideals, but have instead endeavoured to present to the reader some kind of a unified picture of the many, often contradictory aspects that go to make up the Indian nation and country. For it is only by taking a broad and general view, weighing one thing against another, and looking always to the end, that one can begin to understand the cross currents of present-day India's troubled life. Book Synopsis Explorations in Cinema through Classical Indian Theories by : Gopalan Mullik
Download or read book Explorations in Cinema through Classical Indian Theories written by Gopalan Mullik and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-26 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores cinema and film theory through classical Indian theories. While non-Western philosophies have largely been ignored by existing paradigms, Gopalan Mullik responds through an interrogation of how audio-visual images are processed by the audiences at the basic level of their being outside of Western experience. In the process, this book moves away from the heavily Eurocentric film discourse of today while also detailing how this new platform for understanding cinema at the most basic level of its meaning can build upon existing film theories rather than act as a replacement for them.
