Book Synopsis In God We Trust? by : Lewis D. Solomon
Download or read book In God We Trust? written by Lewis D. Solomon and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2003 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This pioneering book charts how President George W. Bush's "compassionate conservatism" creates a new path for American Social Policy. There is a growing interest in testing the proposition that faith-based organizations (FBOs) could do even greater good, especially if government supports an expanded role. The organizations represent a potentially valuable, but controversial, resource because they offer to fight a very different war against America's social ills. This work offers three conclusions. First, FBOs are effective in dealing with chronic social problems because they spark personal transformation. Second, financing them through the Tax Code or vouchers is preferable to direct federal funding. The fear that public funding means government take-over of religion serves as perhaps the greatest impediment to a more expansive role for FBOs. Third, although predicting the U.S. Supreme Court's resolution of church-state issues is fraught with difficulties, the emerging "equal treatment" of religion by the High Court suggests a more permissive attitude toward the federal funding of religous charities. The tax and voucher alternatives seem certain to pass constitutional muster. In God We Trust? is among the first works to assess President Bush's policy efforts to meet America's social ills by turning more tasks over to FBOs. In addition to demonstrating the constitutionality of the federal efforts to fund FBOs, the book analytically summarizes the existing empirical evidence dealing with the effectiveness of faith-based organizations.
Download or read book Trust and Follow written by John Houston and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-09-12 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Trust and Follow, John Houston shares his journey of trusting God in all areas of his life and how that led to giving God his business. God said, “I want you to give Me the business.” John Houston has spent two decades establishing his company’s reputation as one of Dallas–Fort Worth’s premier custom home builders. With God’s guidance, John Houston Homes has been blessed with unprecedented success—even during the devasting economic downturn in the early 2000s that put many construction companies out of business. Based on this experience, as well as many others in his professional and personal life, John knew that God could be trusted. And he firmly believed that he’d grown and matured enough in his faith that he’d follow anywhere God wanted to lead him. But one day, John felt God asking him to give Him the business. And not just in his heart and mind—in reality. To step down as CEO of the company he’d built from the ground up and hand the reins to someone else. From that moment, his faith and trust would be tested in ways he never could’ve imagined. In Trust and Follow: Learning How to Be CEO of a God-Owned Business, John takes you on a journey of the situations and events that have helped him develop a real relationship with God and learn to trust Him over the years. He shares the wisdom he’s gained about what it means to say yes to God—even when the request makes no sense, and the path forward is unclear and uncertain. And he hopes that his story will encourage you to reflect on your own life, to see and appreciate the many ways God has proved to be faithful and trustworthy in your past, your present, and in the days to come.

This book was released on 2024-07-01 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In God We Trust, or Do We? And Why We Should tells the story of a middle-class boy growing up in middle-class America that without the hand of God reaching out to save, there would be no story to tell. There would be more spiritual interventions that would be the cause for his faith to grow and to believe that there is no doubt a living God that someday we will all go face-to-face to. As a layperson, he fears for our individual moral decline and what it is doing to our churches and our nation. In the end, he has suggestions of what we need to do to turn things around.

Download or read book IN GOD WE TRUST or Do We? written by Tony Mavrakos and published by PublishAmerica. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For years the term "IN GOD WE TRUST" has labeled our currency and our country and I have been proud to have served my nation and its motto for twenty two years of military service. With that in mind I am disappointed to see the spiritual direction that America is going in. There has been a real assault on the Bible - The Word of God and especially Christianity. I still want to believe that God wants to bless America but I must be honest, I have my doubt that "In God We Trust" probably has seen its better days. What really bothers me is I'm concerned America's motto today is IN GOD WE TRUST, or do we?"

Download or read book In God We Trust written by Jean Shepherd and published by Crown. This book was released on 2010-10-27 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of humorous and nostalgic Americana stories—the beloved, bestselling classics that inspired the movie A Christmas Story Before Garrison Keillor and Spalding Gray there was Jean Shepherd: a master monologist and writer who spun the materials of his all-American childhood into immensely resonant—and utterly hilarious—works of comic art. In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash represents one of the peaks of his achievement, a compound of irony, affection, and perfect detail that speaks across generations. In God We Trust, Shepherd's wildly witty reunion with his Indiana hometown, disproves the adage “You can never go back.” Bending the ear of Flick, his childhood-buddy-turned-bartender, Shepherd recalls passionately his genuine Red Ryder BB gun, confesses adolescent failure in the arms of Junie Jo Prewitt, and relives a story of man against fish that not even Hemingway could rival. From pop art to the World's Fair, Shepherd's subjects speak with a universal irony and are deeply and unabashedly grounded in American Midwestern life, together rendering a wonderfully nostalgic impression of a more innocent era when life was good, fun was clean, and station wagons roamed the earth. A comic genius who bridged the gap between James Thurber and David Sedaris, Shepherd may have accomplished for Holden, Indiana, what Mark Twain did for Hannibal, Missouri.
Book Synopsis Stanley 2in1 Source of My Strength and Finding Peace by : Charles Stanley
Download or read book Stanley 2in1 Source of My Strength and Finding Peace written by Charles Stanley and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2009-08-30 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Source of my Strength - For those who grieve, he offers comfort. For those who struggle, he offers rest. For those overcome by pain, he offers hope and healing. To those who carry emotional burdens too large for them to bear, Christ offers his strength. In The Source of My Strength, Dr. Charles Stanley talks honestly about his own journey through emotional pain and points readers toward the wellspring of strength. He shares his own experiences with grief and shows readers how to overcome the pain, understand the burdens, confront memories, and discover the courage and strength to live freely in God's love for them. Written from the heart, The Source of My Strength is one of Dr. Stanley's most personal and triumphant books. Finding Peace - In times of crisis and confusion, Dr. Charles Stanley has learned the one phrase that can carry him through: "God, You are in control." The peace he has experienced in life stems from that foundational belief. In Finding Peace, Dr. Stanley shares with readers how they, too, can experience an unshakeable peace which "passes all understanding." Filled with encouragement to lift the soul, Finding Peace offers insight on what causes us to live without God's peace in our lives, and how we can reverse course and open our hearts to receive it. Also, Stanley gives his perspective on the things that hinder peace-including the "Four Great Hallmarks of God's Peace" and "Five Essential Beliefs for a Peaceful Heart"-to put the important message of this book into concrete terms. Addressing regret, anxiety, and fear, Dr. Stanley extends hope for overcoming the obstacles that block peace with the Lord. Finally, he gives direction on learning to live a life of contentment.

Book excerpt: “The Great Commission commands us to make Disciples, not Converts. In the Christian context a Disciple is most commonly referred to as a follower of Jesus. In its most literal context a disciple is a ‘learner.’ In either case we’re not talking about an event, but rather a process or lifestyle. Sally’s story and stories of life garnered experience are both wisdom and practical next steps for the serious disciple. A Student of Life is a Discipleship Primer that will both inspire, instruct, and enlighten the reader as they establish their own life story.” Pastor Steven S. Harman, Th.D. Retired church plant pastor, current volunteer missionary with: A Time to Revive and Revive Ohio Ministries In Sally Steirhoff’s most recent work, A Student of Life, she invites her readers to share an intimate stroll with her Savior. The conversation pairs insightful stories with lessons for living with each page being gently sprinkled with Scripture. Take time, as I did, to enjoy its many flavors. I guarantee you’ll be amply rewarded with refreshing insights that linger long in your soul. Dr. Wayne Cordeiro, Author and Sr. Pastor New Hope Church & College Eugene, Oregon A Student of Life conveys wisdom and practical advice on topics such as fear, anger and grief, marriage and blended families, self-worth and personal growth, and finding true happiness and peace. Life can be a journey of adventures and challenges—and how you deal with them determines your level of success and joy. In this book, the author draws on her life experiences and observations to convey the unlimited love of God. She answers questions such as: How can you ask for God’s help when you need it? What are the benefits of spending time in prayer? How can you overcome past mistakes? Why should you surrender yourself to Christ? As a student of life, the Lord has revealed many wonderful things to the author. By learning about them, you’ll find an easier road to travel. Evaluate your life, ignite your faith, and enjoy the benefits that go along with knowing how much God loves you with the lessons in this book.
