Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Essen, language: English, abstract: In times of globalization, countries all over the world have transformed to an interdependent economic system. Especially rising economic powers, such as Turkey, and the largest economic powers in the world, like the USA, face an increasing collaboration due to their economic importance to each other. The aim of this paper is the improvement of the cooperation of a mixed US-Turkish team by giving the reader an understanding about these two apparently very different countries. In order to understand the foundation of a cultural comparison a definition of culture is given. Then, some general information about the countries is provided. After explaining Hofstede’s cultural theory the Turkish and US American culture are analyzed according to three of Hofstede’s dimensions. Due to the scope of this paper and because of the aim of giving not only surface information it focuses on the dimensions ‘Power distance’, ‘Long-term orientation’ and ‘Individualism vs. Collectivism’ which are most important to a project team. These dimensions show not only differences but also similarities as a common base. Personal experiences and quotes from scientific literature underline the differences or equalities.

Book excerpt: This 2014 Article IV Consultation highlights that Turkey’s economy has grown on average by 6 percent annually since 2010, but this has come at the expense of a large external deficit, making the economy sensitive to changes in external financing conditions. Macroeconomic policies have been too accommodative, inflation is high and well above the authorities’ target, real policy interest rates remain negative, and the exchange rate continues to be stronger than suggested by fundamentals. The main risk for Turkey remains a capital flows reversal, associated with monetary policy normalization in advance economies or changes in the country risk premium. Other risks center on slower European growth, geopolitical issues, and the strength of the policy framework.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the end of Cold War discipline the world has entered a new era. Parameters have changed; new handicaps as well as new opportunities have been created for countries. Turkey as a neighbor of former USSR, a member of NATO and located at the center of a sensitive region covered by Caucasus, Balkans and Middle East, has been affected by the end of Cold War radically. Turkey has lost some of her bargaining cards in the new era and therefore has needed new arguments. This need encouraged Turkey to take active steps in Post Cold War era. This book analyzes Turkey s relations with US, EU, Balkans, Middle East, Caucasus, Central Asia, Russia, China and Japan. At the same time, effects of economic crises and domestic developments on foreign policy, Turkish model in Turkish foreign policy, water conflict and Kurdish problem are analyzed as well. To conclude, it is possible to argue that although Turkey lost some of her bargaining cards in Post Cold War era, new developments pushed Turkey to the center of world politics rather then to periphery. Book excerpt: By conservative estimates about 50 million migrants are currently living outside of their home communities, forced to flee to obtain some measure of safety and security. In addition to persecution, human rights violations, repression, conflict, and natural and human-made disasters, current causes of forced migration include environmental and development-induced factors. Today's migrants include the internally displaced, a category that has only recently entered the international lexicon. But the legal and institutional system created in the aftermath of World War II to address refugee movements is now proving inadequate to provide appropriate assistance and protection to the full range of forced migrants needing attention today. The Uprooted is the first volume to methodically examine the progress and persistent shortcomings of the current humanitarian regime. The authors, all experts in the field of forced migration, describe the organizational, political, and conceptual shortcomings that are creating the gaps and inefficiencies of international and national agencies to reach entire categories of forced migrants. They make policy-based recommendations to improve international, regional, national, and local responses in areas including organization, security, funding, and durability of response. For all those working on behalf of the world's forced migrants, The Uprooted serves as a call to arms, emphasizing the urgent need to develop more comprehensive and cohesive strategies to address forced migration in its complexity.

Whether or not this is a recognition of apparent existential challenges or not, aspiring higher education administrators, faculty, and trustees need to have an understanding of the varying types of higher education institutions in the USA and an awareness of how other countries structure their higher education systems and how they are preparing to deal with the challenges. Additionally, they require deep knowledge of how these systems measure success or failure. Improving Higher Education Models Through International Comparative Analysis explores critical aspects and challenges in the higher education setting, describes and analyzes initiatives being taken to address these challenges, and presents case studies to help foster a better understanding and create competency in strategic thinking and problem solving for higher education leadership. Covering key topics such as sustainability, education systems, and the digital age, this premier reference source is ideal for administrators, policymakers, researchers, academicians, practitioners, scholars, instructors, and students.
